Lovely boat, well done. I will look out for you up the Hamble or in the Solent. My first boat in 1972/3 was a 535 with a 50 hp Mercury on a trailer, £450, how things have changed, Cheers

Well done, looks great. I’ve had my 535 for last 6 years. It’s a good solid boat and perfect size for easy trailering, launching/recovering. Id love to hear how you get on with the 70 hp motor as I’m thinking of upgrading my 35hp which works very well for two or 3 people but difficult to get on plane with more weight. Also where did you get your boarding ladder? I’ve searched everywhere to find on that fits on the transom.

This is my 4th 535, the smallest engine I have ever had on one is a 30hp and it's painful. Flat out or stopped. The 75hp is much better, it will do 30knts all day long and will push 33knts when low on fuel, cruise at 20knts half throttle, will pull 2 water skiers up. But when bumpy, if your stood up helming you can catch yourself out when turning. I had a 50hp on my old one and I don't think it was much slower and the engine was lighter. The ladder came from marine scene in wales, they are very good. Half of it is in the water when the boat is afloat but I tip the ladder & tie it up, so it's out the water when I leave the boat on its mooring.

Hi there! you have a lovely boat! I am in the process of restoring a 535 from top to bottom and currently the cabin is totally bare, do your seats bases rearrange to form a double berth? If so how? Would really appreciate some light being shed on this as I can't seem to find any diagrams online for the original set-up. Many thanks, Robbie
@fat_tommo_goes_boating
@fat_tommo_goes_boating 4 года назад
Hi Robbie. No they don't arrange to make a double bed on the 535, other shetlands originally had a table or a piece of ply stored under the front v shaped cushion that went in between the seats and had cushions the same as the seats that went in. But it would be easy to make some up. In mine the big cushions stood on the side of the bow, which are lighter in colour are not standard and the previous owner made them up, they are ply backed but to be honest I'm not sure why. My kids use them to sit on when on the pontoon. Lol
@smithandco5314
@smithandco5314 4 года назад
Thanks! Very helpful info :) will be looking to template and make cushions etc over the next few weeks, is there storage under the seats or are the bases screwed down? Sorry for all the questions it’s just your boat is a stunning example and exactly what I had in mind as an end goal 😀 have just finished rebuilding the complete roof as the core was rotted out, I will be putting in a glass hatch instead of the original and I’m hoping that doesn’t take away too much from the original Shetland style, bought the boat 4 years ago as a project but never found time to get stuck in, since the lockdown I seem to have nothing but time!

Lovely boat!- I have the same (although not as tidy as this). Can I ask what trailer did you have as I need to replace a box iron trailer mine came with. What rating should I be looking for? Is a single axle 750kg enough? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Gareth

The artificial grass I have actually works quite well but I only put it in there because I was given it! Previously this boat had a rubber mat but when that got wet with wet feet it made my soles black and made a mess everywhere. Previously I have used non slip paint or paint with sand sprinkled in it to make it non slip, which worked well.
