That's a very nice apartment and nice "things." The bonus is the exercise going up and down those steps. If you haven't yet, wait until you have a wedding in the area.... The loudspeaker inundates you with noise from morning til night for about 3 days.. At least it's temporary and not like the school you used to live near.. thanks for the video
@ForRiel

Thank you Stitch, and good to see you! I counted the stairs and there are 62. The landlady has a stockpile of big blue water bottles halfway up, so only ever need to carry one of those up two floors. She charges half the price we had been paying, too; .50 as opposed to $1! Are you planning another trip to The Reap?

@@ForRiel No traveling this winter.. I'll probably head over next year... If I didn't have to deal with my cat I"d be there right now enjoying the warm weather.. We go to Siem Reap every year for Xmas and new year for 3 weeks and stay at the sofitel, every year is the same, a cacophony every morning with stuff blasting out of loudspeakers that starst at 5:00am. I do not know why Cambodians are so fond of loudspeakers!

Im really enjoying your content. You appear to be getting out and exploring Siam Reap and its nice to get to see whar you find. Im considering going to Cambodia to tefl in a year or two. I had planned on going to Phnom Penh but Siam Reap looks amazing. Id like to see a vid where you discuss the merits of each city to teach in.
@ForRiel
@ForRiel 4 года назад
Thanks so much, Yan. We never really considered Phnom Phen as an option for long term living. We have been there quite a few times over the years, but it doesn't hold appeal for us in the same way that Siem Reap does. It's bigger, seedier, and developing at a breakneck pace that is just staggering. It has a much higher rate of petty crime, too. Siem Reap is big enough to have variety, but small enough that you can ride anywhere pretty easily and in around 10 minutes. I do know that you can get new apartments in PP that have facilities like pools and a gym for around $450, but you are restricted to living close-ish to the school where you work because the traffic is so insane.
@yannewton744
@yannewton744 4 года назад
@@ForRiel im not a big city kinda guy, so Siam Reap appeals to me. Im planning to visit Cambodia in October to get a feel for it as I have not been yet. May just skip PP and go Siam Reap instead, i had heard that it was more difficult to find work in SR.

Beautiful apartment. My Wife and I are heading to Siem Reap once the travel bans are over, checking it out as a place to live. Just spent two years living in Chiang Mai but we are currently back home in Australia at the moment. When you say $300 plus are you using AUD or USD ? Thanks for sharing

All in US over here. Unfortunately the Aussie dollar is not in a good way but they pay you in US dollars here so could work out better in the long run. We also lived in Chang Mai for a few months and loved it.

Looks like a nice upgrade from your last place, well done. The view is great from the top of the building! For me the view is consideration number 2 just behind location so very important, I almost don'e care what the inside is like as long as it's livable and has a decent fridge haha. How are you find the stairs? I have a lot of stairs here and don't mind them, it's all good exercise :)

Hi, I am looking at Siem Reap videos at the moment trying to decide on a place to retire & 1 channel claimed foreigners couldn't ride motorcycles in Siem Reap, is this true and do you need a motorbike license from Australia to ride one? Good video & has made me determined to visit once travel has opened up.
@ForRiel
@ForRiel 3 года назад
Hi, and thanks for watching! The question about motorcycle riding in Siem Reap comes up a bit. There's a rule that foreigners on tourist visas can't ride motos, but when you look at how many moto rental places there are that existed solely for the tourist market (pre-covid), you see that it's a rule that was never/rarely enforced. If you're on a long visa, you can ride a bike up to 125cc without a license. The problem is more to do with insurance because if you are riding here but you don't hold whatever license is required to ride the same bike back home, they might not pay out. We have Australian moto license up to 250cc. I hope that helps!

Hi there! I stumbled on this apartment tour. I had not seen it. Thanks. May I ask why you left this one?
@ForRiel
@ForRiel Год назад
We moved into a less expensive place. The landlords in this building are the best people you could meet. One of the big things for us is that we had a lot of steps to climb to reach our apartment. Another downside was the big east-facing picture window in the bedroom along with the size of the bedroom. We only used the air con at night, but our bill was still very high because of this.
