They are too expensive to operate and keep functional. Most belong to the National Trust and it sometimes allows the family to continue living there while open to the public. This one is too small for that and not a draw for visitors.
@@hrussell9677 It’s unfortunate but makes sense. Couldn’t do a B&B I guess. Just to say one stayed in a castle would be a treat for most I think. It certainly was for my wife and I when we were in Scotland years ago.
If you have over half a million dollars, euros, whatever to spend on a castle. You don’t care about the extra taxes fees or restoration costs. Don’t like it? Spend your $1 million building your own house
@@PropertyReview Is there a full restoration or renovation cost estimate already in place? Is the property with ownership of land to the beach? Can more land be purchased adjacent to the property. Can a portion of the trees be legally cut down, to improve the view. Is there a link to the property web page? Good video presentation, Thank you.
I visited in person. The video does not show the really bad bits, but then it was made by the estate agent. :-) I was similarly selective when I took these flattering photos: balintorecastle.blogspot.com/2021/08/kilberry-castle.html The castle was sold towards the end of 2021.
@@djjohn123456 Their Airbnb looks nice, how much do you think it cost them to renovate it? And how do you think castles in Scotland compared to ones in France? Thanks.
They are showing it’s best side. If you look carefully you will see the roof is missing in places. Undoubtedly a beautiful property but, make no mistake, there will be plenty of surprises.
A castle for less than one million dollars? It must need a great deal of work. Ordinary American middle-class suburban houses go for more than that these days. Dang, if I had the finances, I'd be willing to put in the renovations and turn it into a hotel or B&B. I fantasized about living in a castle when I was a kid. I'll bet some of you did too, amirite? 🏰💙
Thanks for your comments, castle and stately homes are pretty awesome! www.businessinsider.com/photos-500-year-old-scottish-kilberry-castle-for-sale-2021-7#current-owner-charmian-says-the-history-of-the-castle-is-written-on-the-walls-5
Bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen ? How will anyone show interest if these rooms aren't shown. You really would need the purchase price again to update everything, add 2 full time gardeners into the costs also.
But rural Scotland is a world away from modern living in a metropolitan city with all conveniences down the hill. It's a matter of personal choice. Both have plus and minus.

You are probably going to need the best part of $3m to do it up.
Make sure the roof is water tight as they call it lol. Basic utilities the same. Stabilize and just live there like it is. Maintain whats there. Make your self a designated realistic small area to live in during the cold months. Possibly in one room? Living in a super huge house doesn't have to cost you a fortune if you can use common sense and aren't rich. I've done it myself.
Thanks for your comment, see an article here www.businessinsider.com/photos-500-year-old-scottish-kilberry-castle-for-sale-2021-7#current-owner-charmian-says-the-history-of-the-castle-is-written-on-the-walls-5
In California, this price would get you a very average 2-3 bedroom home in an average neighborhood. If we are talking a coastal city, a run down 2-3 bedroom home in a sketchy neighborhood.
Where I live in the US, USD785,000 could probably purchase a 2-bedroom condo. Maybe. I have a lot of Scottish ancestry and the idea of living in Scotland appeals except for the weather and it’s still part of the UK. Declare Scotland independent and a member of the EU, and I will be a-knocking on your door. (I know you cannot change the weather. 😎)
The bluebells & that beach so near is definitely a huge plus - but way too many turrets & it's just a bit too big !!! Of course for the right buyer who can afford the upkeep that would not matter. A great buy for that person ! After you have seen a few of these places & done the oohing & aahing you begin to realize exactly WHY there are so many left vacant to rot - it's very sad !
No Jacuzzi, but there is a beach just down the road. www.businessinsider.com/photos-500-year-old-scottish-kilberry-castle-for-sale-2021-7#current-owner-charmian-says-the-history-of-the-castle-is-written-on-the-walls-5
Filmed on one of three days in the year when it is not poring with rain. No chance of turning it into a commercial enterprise, too far away from anything. It needs a hermit with lots of time and money
@@catherinetong5994 ~ I've since done a search on Kilberry Castle. There are pictures. Also, it's no longer on the market and currently undergoing renovations. It's nice to know that it's being saved.
What Launguage Is American? People Speak Differently In Different Regions. Its All An Attempt To Speak English. However, You Could Be Speaking About Money Talks, American.
@@niknoks7638 we may have quite different conceptions of what 'saved' means. It didn't need to be 'brought up to date', certainly not if that means turning it into yet another plastic box, clean and bright, modern and 'comfortable', double glazing, underfloor heating, like somthing from a home furnishings magazine. I've seen so many beautiful old buildings ruined in that way; worse than a ruin. It needed a few repairs and people who care about its heritage. Perhaps it has that now. It was resold soon after the purshase along with some other adjoining property so I don't know what those newer owners plan to do with it, maybe they are planning a hotel. Hopefully they will be respectful of the castle.
THe advantage of a hotel is that more people can enjoy it compared to it being turned into a private home for a big family. Also, it may be far away from schools etc. Thus, a hotel could work. Why is it sad?
