There is a secret helmet hook under the seat that serves to lock your helmet to the bike

Hi Steven, love the videos , I've extensively toured around all of Normandy on bikes and last year took a group of ten all around that area, in answer to two of your questions 1. i use my google maps on my phone more up to date information , road works , traffic etc sat nav's i think are just total over kill. and 2. as for a helmet lock any good bicycle lock through your visor around your frame or carrier will do . again enjoyed the vids God bless ride safe

I like to carry my helmet everywhere. If there is a mask mandate that comes out you can just wear it everywhere you go. Also, the helmet doubles as a good thing to hit people with if they mess with you. Win win win. Lovely bike. I've got a 2013 Bonneville 865cc.

Lovely video Steven, I have a 2003 T100 Bonnie which is my "pride and joy" I have other bikes but this one is the "keeper" in the pack ! I have toured for several years with my wife on the pillion seat, mainly in Scotland, on the Bonnie and its a wonderful machine, not the fastest, or the most technologically equipped, but just a real honest bike which has never let me down, its like an eager puppy always ready to have a go at whatever you put in its path whether that be motorways, gravel tracks or a sandy beach! Enjoy your tour mate, you have a faithful friend with you who will always look after you and wont let you down.

Hey Martin, thanks for commenting 🤙🏻 That’s exactly how I feel about the T100. Yes it’s not the best Touring bike out there and Yes it’s not got all of the bells and whistles BUT it always seems ready to have a go. And that’s all I need! Happy riding and thanks for watching.

Oxford products make a helmet combination lock tgat will do the job. What seat do you have on your bonneville as doesn't look a standard seat, might be though. Thanks

Navigation: Beeline as primary, Google Maps and 2nd. Quite hesitant to put my expensive iPhone on the handle bar these days. Camera's seem to crash easily due to sensitive OIS.

I use a Garmin XT and wouldn’t be without it. I usually do my route planning using maps and Via Michelin then create a route on OSMaps which gets sent to my Garmin via my phone. I often use Waze on my phone for finding specific locations.

Thanks for the feedback David 🙂 The XT looks especially good that it’s rain resistant so doesn’t need a cover. The What3Words app is also quite handy.

@@surfingsteven1624Be careful with that. The three words given vary according to the user’s phone’s home country. It could cause confusion if you needed to give a location to the emergency services abroad. Your words would mean nothing to them even if they used the system.

Dear Steven, Firstly, many thanks for your video - I know these things take time and effort, and I really enjoyed watching it - so, many thanks! Could you help me? I'm considering buying a new/nearly new T100, and, if I do, I would very much like to take the bike over to the Continent, and do some touring around France, and possibly across to Eastern Europe (maybe Krakow, in Poland). Obviously, this will entail doing several hundred 'motorway miles' at motorway speeds (70m.p.h. plus) for several hours a day. With this in mind, how did you find that the T100 coped with highway miles, at high speeds, for sustained periods of time? Any problems? Also, did you have to perform any 'roadside maintenance', for example cleaning and lubing the chain, topping up oil etc.., during your journey? Do you have any advice for me? Your time is much appreciated, and I look forward to hearing from you soon. Many thanks, Neil (Solihull, West Mids). p.s. one more thing.....have you experienced any problems with rust yet? There's a lot of exposed metal on the Bonnevilles, and I've seen several reports that rust can be an issue.
@surfingsteven1624
@surfingsteven1624 5 месяцев назад
Hey Neil, glad you enjoyed the video. So my T100 was superb for the trip in France. I only packed what I needed and a good pannier / luggage system will help with that and maybe a rear rack. For comfort you could add a wind screen because the wind can be annoying after a few days. I kept the bike around 60-70mph to help with the mpg and keep the engine at a nice rev range. It would happily do 80+ but in France there are speed cameras absolutely everywhere and they’re camouflaged so it’s not worth going any quicker. The T120 with its 6th gear will definitely sit better at motorway speeds but it will use slightly more fuel and be a little heavier overall due to the bigger engine. My bike has 32k on the clock now and it didn’t use any oil whatsoever. Remarkable really. No maintenance required during the trip. I made sure to check tyre pressures, oil and lubricate chain before I left. No rust at all. The wheel spokes are showing signs of aging but chrome spokes normally do. Especially on a bike used as much as mine. Only noticeable when I clean it and get up close. I wouldn’t let it put you off. Overall the T100 is one of the best all round motorcycles with a classic style that money can buy in my opinion 🤙🏻 let me know what you decide to get!

@@surfingsteven1624 Dear Steven, Many thanks for your prompt reply. That's certainly very encouraging. I'll definitely let you know what I decide, but I won't start seriously shopping around until June-ish.....I'm planning my trip around August/September time. In the meantime, take good care of yourself, and I'll make a point of keeping up-to-date with your latest videos! All the best, Neil :)

Glad you enjoyed the video Mark and thanks for leaving a comment 🤙🏻 I chose the T100 in all honesty for my first ‘big’ bike because I really enjoy watching Freddie Dobbs YT channel and the T100 looked to be a brilliant all rounder. My T100 came up for sale locally at a price I couldn’t say no too so I had to have it 🙂 I’m very much looking forward to test riding a T120 though!

Liking your travel vids, my only negative criticism is regarding your camera placement, it seems that when your forward facing camera is the one used that we are mainly seeing your phone and instrument cluster etc, could you raise the camera position up, I prefer to see the scenes of the roads you are travelling on, love the content though

Tom Tom rider all the way, re helmet, doubt that anyone would be out to run off with it in a small French village, unfortunately we in the UK are so conditioned to think that everyone is going to Nick our stuff it’s hard to see that other places are just not like here

Thanks Pete 🤙🏻 Unfortunately you’re right about our feeling in the UK. With the Bonnie grabbing attention like it does, I’m hesitant to leave it anywhere in UK, even locked up! Different vibes in France for sure. I felt much more at ease! Even as a rider on the busy-ish roads. Somehow felt safer than UK which surprised me 🤷🏼‍♂️

Before I even watch this video, let me answer your question. Is travelling solo fun? Most of what we do by ourselves cannot be fun. You have fun when you enjoy something with others, mostly. However, for people living in the big cities, it can be beneficial to isolate themselves from others or from the city "buzz" from time to time, to "reset" their mind & soul. From that perspective, yes it can be fun!
