Once a beacon of nightlife and cultural vibrancy, Chulia Street in the heart of George Town, Penang has seen a dramatic shift in recent years.
This historic street buzzed with energy, drew locals and tourists alike into its lively embrace every evening.
However, the Covid-19 pandemic turned the thriving hotspot into a shadow of its former self.
Today, business operators are grappling with a reality that is not as favourable as it once was but hope flickers on the horizon.

Penang should enhance their public transport, and limit the vehicle usage in the city. Otherwise with that small island area with a lot of car coming in, it is now become ridiculously congested with traffic jams

we need the right amount of tourists, no tourist is bad and too many also bad
@rahimmajid647
@rahimmajid647 3 месяца назад
@@ahmadmad2k Ideally, what you're saying is good. But that however is something beyond our control. Well... unless you want the government to make every tourist apply for visa in advance and start rejecting after a quota is reached. And if the government does that, you will guarantee having no tourists coming to Malaysia, which is then also bad. The truth is that if we want tourists to visit Malaysia, we gotta accept the good and the bad side of tourism.

If they want to increase foot traffic in that area, then they must ban car and motorcycle entry in that area make it pedestrian friendly area. The only vehicle that are allowed would be emergency vehicle, public transport, and delivery vehicle like a van or small lorry.

If no tourists, you all willing to pay RM8 for charkuaytiao and RM20 for nasi kandar? If no, then duduk diam diam one corner and don’t criticise others because business is booming again after covid. We should be thankful tourists are choosing to spend their money in Penang.

Penangnites already paying this kind of price. Average CKT around rm7 + egg, nasi kandar wise you pick seafood easily exceeds rm20, even for chicken+egg+vege is around rm9 without a drink yet

All Southeast Asian countries tourism sector is not back to pre-pandemic levels, including Thailand. I wonder also if the tourists themselves are doing well economically in their home countries

Penang should improve the streets. Penang street should be safely walkable, comfortable and attractive. Other cities in other South East Asians have improved their streets in the cities. No improvement in Penang, tourists are no longer interested. Road along Batu Ferrenggi should be also fully pedestrianised with zebra cross walks at all junctions and traffic lights.

@@BorneoHeadHunter666 Putting state government issue aside, Terengganu has a logistical and weather obstacle when it comes to tourism. Penang is basically open for visitors all year. Terengganu, along with the other East Coast states, is pretty much only ideal for tourism for about 6 to 7 months in a year. You know... Monsoon season is not that great for tourism over there, is it? So, naturally there will be fewer tourists a year visiting Terengganu. But you do have to admit when it's not the monsoon season, the beaches on the East Coast is f...king amazing when compared to Penang, Langkawi or any other beaches in the West Coast.
