Here's a video demonstrating how we tournament rig our salmon trolling flies. Check out our other videos on how to tie your own salmon flies and easy to tie "fly recipes" that you can make at home.
Thanks for the great information. Do you run rattles on your tournament rigs? If so, what size, glass or plastic, and where do you get your supply? Thanks.
Chris, if you were going to use a tournament rig with a 6" fly, would you just add beads above the Octopus hook or would the spacing of hooks have to be different? Also with a 6" fly, would you increase leader length? I thought I might pair it with an 11" flasher. This year I'm thinking with the size of Kings so big, they might like a big meal. Thanks
I like the idea. Put a couple beads above the Octopus hooks to put the hooks at the back of the fly. When running big paddles I never go shorter than a 36 inch leader. Sometimes as much as five or more feet.
Make sure u use pliers not ur teeth on the tag end to pull it tight. Just had a chip in my front tooth fixed at the dentist at least I no longer look like a hillbilly from tying fly leaders
