sorry this video really made me look at you differently. It all seemed to be your feeling hurt you not invited which i havent seen you really down alot of towing recovers with your rig which i think is cool I like it, havent seen you interact with others except Fabrats your cousin Paul. You say you dont watch much of Matt's videos but things you heard you were ready throw him under the bus for and try make him look stupid. Matt has always said he knows his not Worldest biggest he said for what his is designing it to do where to go what to haul to him it is. Matt & HeavyD both said theirs are 2 different Tow Truck do totally different things go different places, they never had beef or problem. But you tried make everyone in youtube land see Matt as stupid or as a liar cause HeavyD & people Overseas have worldest biggest. Then say everyones tow trucks named towmater but you YOU have licensed towmater I did not see Tow on license. But Rory truck is Trailmater not TowMater. This video really made an outside person who really liked your videos even though you have serious ton and seem not to be comfortable on camera I like you and the stuff you make is cool. But you took a friendly competition that was between youtubers who have friendships have been working doing things together and made it about you and if you not going be there you not just want ruin the fun you want to bad talk make others look stupid throwing people under bus. I sorry but someone gotta tell you what you said how you acted how it came across to people and it wasnt a good look for you. At the same time you took this attitude and tried to prove how better you are than Matt or anyone of the other guys towing recovering a car out of the sand and instead you really tore the lady's car up. There was no reason you could not have used the truck your flag pole to lift car over the rock or up enough to pivot car differently or so many other things but nope. Then you acted like it was no big deal, that you meant do that. That was horrible the tow truck driver was freaking out cause if she complains its his rear going have pay for it. I think you could of done a better job, especially if your truck can do all you say that you can do all you say. I am not a person who comments on videos often and not negatively I hate drama. So before you think I am bashing you I am not I really just want you take stepback and see and hear how this video wasnt a good look for you, how things came across. I REALLY DO ENJOY WATCHING YOUR VIDEOS, SEEING THINGS YOU BUILD! Enjoy watching people work hard build awesome machines and I love to learn how to do things
You seem a little put off that you weren’t invited to the tow truck thing. Why don’t you just call your cousin Paul and get an invite since he’s doing it too.
@George Jones never said he had anything to prove. I like his work it’s real good his tone of voice just sounded a little miffed to me. As for the plate he showed on his truck it seemed like a cut on Rory to me.
Maybe next year, it's not an official sporting event at Public School everyone gets to try-out. Maybe they'll do more events and pass the trophy or carve a new name after each event.
Cool old truck man but lost respect when the mouthing came in really no reason for that I get little trash talk but Matt’s and a few others have built Many machines from scratch even the frame until Matt’s blew up the internet was t much of a following so best of luck to you sir just and outlook from a few of us
Matt made it pretty clear at the start of his build that he knows there are bigger wreckers. He is thinking his will be the largest trail capable wrecker, meaning he wants to be able to get it through most jeep trails. I think Merlin,s wrecker should be invited to compete, cool machine.
@@mbukukanyau no such thing as different faith; just different beliefs, religions, cults, dogmas, etc. But faith is knowing without physical proof/evidence 🤷
@@seeya5176 How do you know what Paul’s faith is and why would it matter I think Fab Rat and Paul are lots of fun especially some of his and Merlin’s stories when they were growing up with their dads some comments are better kept to yourself see ya.
@@jimwilcox741 In their own back yard, they are all excellent at what they do. In someone else's back yard, they will all be at a disadvantage. It's still going to be great to watch them all display their talents.
The thing about Rory is he knows the limits of grip, balance and how to read the lines better than anyone I have seen. He is fearless with perhaps Paul being the only one closeti that intensity. But Paul doesn't have that touch. Paul is like a bull in a China shop he doesn't understand the word easy and its implications. Matts going to be limited by that heavy truck, it will halp in some things but hurt in others. Merlin could be a dark sheep if invited because his truck kind of slides in between the lighter trucks Paul and Rory have. But there are other trucks out there that should be able to enter. Why not an entry fee and up the prizes?
Nice video but you seem to be trying to compare apples to bowling balls. Matt's wrecker is not for the same use as Heavy D's rigs. Heavy D could not get to some of the vehicles Matt services. They complement each other and work in symbiosis. Matt, Rory, Heavy D and Robby too are all excellent at what they do, which is just different enough that each of them is needed.
To be fair and bi-partisan Merlin my brother, that's an apples to turnips comparison. Matt's sole intention was to build the biggest all purpose off road / trail recovery tow truck & rock climber designed to recover jeeps and side-by-sides in places where a regular tow truck or one like Heavy D's can't get to.. . Heavy D's truck is a factory built Oshkosh HEMTT, military heavy hauler/ lifter. It's more than capable that we know...., but its size limits its accessibility to smaller, narrower, trails and terrain. Its not something you'd use to recover a Polaris Rzr . Matt's only claim to fame is the part you left out. I like all of your builds, trucks especially this old International, I can see why its not for sale, I wouldn't sell it either. I've been watching you for years, enjoy your content and channel, you are very talented and good at wrenching. I will definitely put it in Matt's comments but you should drop a text to cousin Paul at Fab rats and get him to put a bug in Matt's ear, I'm sure everyone would love to see you and even Steve Darnell from Welderup at the Rodeo. Cheers and Great video
As long as Merlin can not take everything so seriously. I'd be worried he'd be a sore loser or winner and kinda ruin all the fun and miss the whole point of it all.
There are bigger recovery vehicles. Matt clearly states for any one who listens that he is building a rock crawling, sand dunes, gully and creek bed recovery truck. The rodeo is with the Fab Rats recovery tow rig and Rory with Trail Matter. You have a long way to go brother. A funny forth at best. I used to like your channel, but your barking up the wrong tree picking on Matt when he has explained this so many times you clearly are not interested in his channel, just talking shit about it. And your not supposed to mess the car up when towing it out. I know Paul is your cousin. Can't believe you would say that about Matt.
It's possible that he could have brought out 2 beams, boarded and rigged them together to capture under the front wheels and lifted off of the rock instead of dragging it over but who would have known what they were gonna run into until they got to it. A simple wheel lift connected to a 4 wheel drive would have been the best option which would have been more like something up Cascade towing's alley to be quite honest. But since the damage was already done in one direction by it backing over the rock, I think maybe they reversed some of it by dragging it back off the opposite direction. 💁♂️😁😂🤣🤷♂️
I think you could have avoided damaging the car by lifting up a couple of wheels on the car and placing blocks under the tires or lift the car high enough to pull the rock out.
I am huge fan of Rory, Matt, Paul, and your builds. I think if you don't get an invite, you should do the OG/rat rod thing and just crash the party!!! All of there trucks are amazing in there own ways, as is yours!!!
Just a pity there wasn't someone there with a boom that could've lifted the car slightly so the rock could've been moved rather than drag the car across it.
I hope you can join Matt's Tow Olympics, I wanna see this thing compete. Yes Dave Sparks has a bigger wrecker but that's military equipment. For something built comparable to yours Matt's is bigger based on axles and tire size alone. Cool tow mater you got tho, can't wait to watch you all fight for a trophy! :)
Agreed heavy duty tow truck couldn't rock crawl like Matt's. I wish merlin was a little more light hearted with it all need probably be invited but he just kinda comes across an a joke alittle and doesn't seem like hed be fun. Hope I'm wrong though.
To try and compare HeavyDave's HET converted wrecker with Matt's Off Road Recovery Wrecker is apples and oranges. Matt's vehicle is for single vehicle recovery in extreme environments, whereas the HET is designed for heavy vehicle recovery and would not be able to access the same offroad situations. They can be both considered the world's largest in their individual category.
T think Matt’s vehicle is probably the only one, that could retrieve the Gold Nugget from it’s resting place, and bring it to the shop to fix it! What a TEAM!
Could you do a video with this rig in the dunes, or on a buggy trail? Matt has said repeatedly that diesels don't do sand. It would be interesting to see what tow mater can do on that terrain.
The grain structures of the sand at Body Beach is just slightly larger than on the sand dunes of Hurricane, one in particular was large enough to high center a car. LOL
The more comments I read on what Matt says the less respect I have for him. I watched him from early days and like his style but a) he doesn't have the biggestwrecker and b) petrol is no better than diesel on sand if you know how to drive.
@@thebrowns5337 I recall Matt explaining why he does things the way he does. In the earlier videos where he did off-road rescues using just his Jeep and occasionally a trailer, he explained the type of vehicles he gets called out for, the type of terrain - especially the very fine very dry deep sand, and the tools and techniques that he learned and developed, and consequently what aspects of the rescue vehicle are important for that combination. I can see that vehicle weight was very important to him and I believe diesel engines are usually heavier then an equivalent gasoline engine and have different power/torque characteristics that might not suit the specific techniques that he uses. Others do things differently but that doesn't make either wrong. I don't think you can pick out one thing and say he is wrong, its all part of that particular persons' way of getting the job done.
@@thebrowns5337 A) I doubt he cares about your level of respect for him any more than we do B) he said he wants to build the largest wrecker that can do jeep trails since that's where he does his rescues. You won't see heavyD bringing the oshkosh on a jeep trail C) diesels just don't Rev as quickly and rely on the turbo to spool first so he's right if both vehicles are at a stand still and he still won't have to worry about keeping it in the power band while moving in deep sand and such, like the diesel. I know both my diesels fall flat on their faces if I'm below the power band and while I love them, they're just not ideal for fine sand unless you have wide floaty tires
I'm hoping to see you in MORR Tow-lympics. Hmmm, i found Paul because of the Nugget and Matt, then you from Paul, so maybe annoying Matt for an invite for you goes full circle. 😉
Same with me I started watching Matt's off-road recovery and found Paul and fabrics and Robbie Layton with late Nation the Merlin it would be great if you could go take your record to the Olympics
The Hett can’t rock crawl though… I enjoy seeing everyone’s different wreckers, they are all super cool and unique. I love the old school flashing lights you got on the boom. Perfect for the rig
Man this guy did more damage than anything just got done talking about how great his tow truck is and then didn't even use its capabilities this guy don't even qualify to be in the tow truck Olympics
I love this old very basic tow Mater. Definitely not the way to get that small car off of that big rock! I hope Merlin get's an invite to the "off-road recovery" tow truck Olympics - it would great to see a large variety of tow machines.
What should have been done get a crane, and lift the whole car? There comes a point where the vehicle isn't worth putting that kind of money into doing it "right"!
Just found you.. liked the video.. but before you beat on Matt or bring heavyd into it... Matt's made it clear the largest wrecker that can go down the trails he does.. he's also said the largest home built... all the ones you brought up is factory built.. just based on that, you can't compare.. he's done this whole build in his garage.. all heavy has done is fix what he broke on a store bought wrecker.. liked the video until the Matt stuff...
My grandma's neighbor had several WW2 vintage military tow trucks and even a tank recovery truck that got called out when nothing else could do the job ,I'll drop some comments on the other pages because this beast should definitely be included
Glad to see more of your stuff Merlin I’m sure Paul or Matt will be giving you a call can’t wait to see more of your great videos and builds like to see more of your son’s truck build thanks for sharing.
I too have a 1942 military 10 wheeler GMC ,and I saved the cab and I’m looking for a first gen 5.9 Cummins truck or two ,so I can put some of them in my ol tracks likes this thanks 🙏,I have not hard of the tow truck challenge or what did you say , when is it ???!!!! Im going to check it out over on Matt’s channel nice thanks BigAl California the. Original tow Mater truck that bill gates and jay came and took 250 pictures of it in1995 in California at imbuddys tire shop , and my truck is my daily driver 1969 chevy 454 465 four speed duel wheels ,low normal height soicantow in my junk cars and move my buildings around and other stuff , I take my hay off to you and trail matter , he does a Lott of off road MacGyver he’s got like five winches on his truck welders fulltool boxes you name it he has it and the know how to fix it out in the bush , nice thanks BigAl California praise Jesus Christ grace amen 🙏 ( look up May mater on Low budget TV i action at the 2018 SoCal 300 enduro at Willow springs speedway on November 10 th ) thank BigAl.
When I first seen the body that Matt was going to be using for is new big wrecker your Mater definitely came to mind first thing!!! I definitely love your old wrecker and how you put a good old dependable diesel in it!! I only have a 1980 Chevy 1Ton 4x4 wrecker and everything still works on it and in good shape also!!!
Is Heavy D Sparks' HEMTT A4 even an Off-Road Recovery Vehicle? That thing is too big to go where Off-Road Vehicles go, let alone recover them. It has some versatility for areas with bad roads or no roads, but it is too big to fit on most trails, let alone do any rock crawling.
What in God’s name could have prompted them to drive over that rock!! As big as it is, I find it hard to believe that they couldn’t see it!! We live up here in what I call The rock capital of Montana. 5 miles from the Canadian Border. Up the, YAAK-RIVER-ROAD. I am born and raised here, and in all of my years of driving off road, which is nearly on a daily basis, because of where we live, and because of my families sizable logging company / operations, I have yet to run over a rock like that. But, then again , I always pay close attention to my, “Situational-Awareness.” From Yaak River Road, which is The County Road that our private road runs off of,it is a three-quarter mile dirt road. Which right now all dirt roads up here are buried under about 2 feet of hard packed snow. We have been down in this area like Havasu, but it gets way way too hot for us. Both, my wife and I much prefer the colder dry air. The reason it feels so cold back east in your New England states is because of so much moisture content in the air. We’re here are moisture content stays low, nearly every day in and day out. By far. In closing, The person driving this car obviously didn’t pay any attention whatsoever to their situational awareness.
My dad had the same rig, it had the dual axle in the rear. It also was used as a drill rig. It had all the cable draw works that was need to run the drilling. My grand father built the entire thing. My dad worked the crap out of it. He later sold it to a gold mining outfit and was trucked to Nevada. If any one ever sees it, it should be up in the Halayleau Junction area was where it was put to work. I sure would like to find it and get some pics. I have fond memories of growing up and working the rig with my dad. Powered by Hercules inline 6 front and rear. Think my grandfather bought it as it was army surplus.
very impressive for a jimmy , but towing a car over a rock , and working for a towing company called cameltowing , you better call your truck the "colonel ingus" and the show is rolling
Why not lift one corner of that car, by putting a strap through the wheel spokes so you don't need a towing/lifting point, and drag the rock out from under it? Better than dragging the car over the rock? Well, that's what I would have tried first.
Awesome tow truck you got there Merlin! I loved the responses from you and Jimmy to those kids "How much does that cost?". No way to put a dollar value on something as unique as that build, It is priceless. Someone could have endless amount of cash and materials but never put together something like that build ever again. My old man rebuilt a Power Wagon he recovered from the local quarry for $300 but to him and our family it is a priceless family heirloom and could never be replaced. It is all original at the moment and we have plans to make it a bit more reliable so we can take it to a show and share the history. Your videos have inspired us to get up back on the road and start using it like the work horse it is again. Thanks for all the great content and motivation Keep up the unique work!
As the kids say, “mad props” for building that machine out of salvage parts. You have incredible skills that I hope you can pass on to the car/truck community
Hell yeah buddy! 'That's a great name for a tow truck company. And am I the only one that noticed the Camel Towing happening at 6:57? I had to go to slow-mo just to make sure my eyes weren't fooling me!
Merlin, I think your cousin Paul is going to compete with his Dads old tow truck { With upgrades of course } Better get in the mix too! Cheers! Todd the retired trucker.
Heavy D's Hemtt tow truck is not designed for off-road rock crawling. Matt's new tow truck that he designed and building is going to be used to get trucks & buggies off the rocks where the Hemtt and most other tow trucks can't go... The Hemtt is better suited for dirt roads.. But the Hemtt is most capable of pulling almost anything..
Merlin! I dont know for sure, so correct me if im wrong, but you probably could have saved that young Ladies cars undercarriage if you would have placed some rocks in the right spot(s)! And no offense meant, and i mean that, but Rory is the Towmater King! I found Paul and Rory and you through Matts channel and cant wait for your uploads! Best of luck, Merlin🍻🍻🍻!
Matt Wetzel To: Tim Dill Nobody has officially been invited to the Off-Road tow truck Olympics. We’re gonna be doing it Willy Wonka style. The participants are gonna have to find a golden ticket in a candy bar.
Why would Matt invite you to a Rock climbing tow truck event !! You’ve bent the front fender of that lady’s car !!I would call you Tow Mater If you was rescuing cars every day and have the tools on the truck to do on site repairs !!
I'm pretty sure it went out to anyone who wants, as far as I can tell it's just another reason to have a get together with a bit of friendly rivalry, same as fender bending (dirt circuit racing) smash up Darby, all the best to yous and your loved ones
Matt off toad truck can go places Heavy D can only dream about . The think is not about the size of the truck its about where you can go with the truck .
I'm thinking since you basically called Matt out on his build without getting all the specifics first he may not be sending you an invite...lol besides Heavy D just stated on his latest vid while at Matt's place said it was clearly a different class of Off-Road wrecker.
thought from what ive seen and heard about the tow truck Olympic it's just a friendly thing and a game between Paul and Matt and rory . its what it started out as anyway
First time on this channel, m a big fan of offroad builds and the unique builds different people have, Love your truck, a very simple build but does amazing things, Love the content all the way from SA🇿🇦 Hope to see your truck at the Olympics
You were young in the Christmas recovery!! Seeing Mater always makes me want a tow truck. You have helped me many times over the years with this truck.
That is a pretty awesome wrecker at least it doesn't have a bunch of crap goobered on to it One thing that amazes me is that everyone seems to be getting in on the off road wrecker craze But I like to see the old original ones like yours that actually serve a purpose not just look pretty I have gin poles on my trucks because I can't lift heavy things anymore with my back
Respectfully I'm saying this. Yeah it was astute that you noticed the large rock under the vehicle and decided not to drag it rearward. But, you arrived in a huge bad A looking off-road truck you want to compete in the tow truck olympics with.... It has a boom... and a winch... All you did was drag the whole belly of the car over that rock. You saved the oil pans, but could have cut fuel tank, fuel lines, brake lines, etc. And you advise them to drive it off without checking it over. You brought a truck, a nice lifted bad ass truck with a boom and winch and you did what any other bone head in any plain vehicle could have done. 😩👌 Olympics are for the elite my boy.
1 thing I learnt in life. Never mess with a man who’s cousins name is TYRONE. Or a man rolling around in a Badass 1941 chevy 4x4 truck/tank…. U just Don’t Do It…😂
Gee, I thought you said the car needed to be lifted off the rock? I was waiting for you to reel out some line off the boom. Maybe I’m wrong. Besides that, Your Tow Mater looks and sounds like she’z very capable. And you have a magic touch. No Cummins, no soul! Long live Cummins 👍
Really Merlin just tell Paul that you want to compete. It's all fun and games and RU-vid views. Everyone already knows that Rory Irish is going to win.
So like the other guy said. CRASH there party and let’s see if you have what it takes to compare with Matt or Rory. I personally think they are in a league of there own. Rory can just about fix or repair anything on the spot. Matt on the other hand can recover vehicles in places you can’t imagine. Heck he’s going to have 6 winches. Matt is building the ultimate recovery TRUCK. God bless and good luck. I’m going to see Matt at SEMA. Wbu
He said it would've been a critical mistake if they pulled it and dragged it across the Boulder possibly damaging the oil pan and all that, just to do the exact same 😂😂😂 badass ride though! Love watching yall recovery channels
I like these looks of those Razor type vehicles...but they're not an ATV. Their junk for trails, I always see them broken. Wheels broke off or their too narrow for anything but flat land.
Ha ha ,the Tow Olympics seem to be bringing out all the feisty competitiveness , Each to their own ,as they all do different jobs ,have a look at Trail Mater channel and what he builds 😀😀😀😀. Yours is another cool build ,what out Paul might want to build his own ,he said something the other day ,but he has good connection's to obtain that special truck as you already know .
