Worth noting at this time Crab King was a NA exclusive at this time. So Europe just had to rely on dice rolls and the decks inconsistently, which stopped Tower builds dominating before falling off to just pure variants.
I feel like just last week we were doing DAD format, this is going by too fast. I love this series. I quit during TeleDAD format and came back around VW, Tribrigade, and Drytron format. So seeing everything I missed out on is super enjoyable I kinda wish I stuck around for some of these. I'm excited to see one of you play Blue-eyes from the world championship here soon.
@@shrekisboss5759 you're not wrong lmao it was a die roll format for sure. VFD, Herald, and IO were classic 😂. I heard rituals were Good now and I couldn't resist. Ironically I like both of those formats more than the current shit tear/flu thing that passes for Yu-Gi-Oh. I understand the ishizu tear is skill intensive and all but I'm tired of only seeing that deck 95% of the time.
@@shrekisboss5759 The meta sucked yeah, but non meta? Soo fun. There are so many non-meta decks that actually work and are fun to play whereas back in teledad, non-meta decks actually sucked, and there weren't too many of them.
@@cybzer0560 agreed, I played a lot of Gren Maju in that era and took a lot of games and sets off meta decks. Herald is strong sure, but I'll just give them a sea turtle for their troubles. Let's not forget that Invoked was still very playable, salads were okay, Dragon link and Thunder dragon were still around, it was way way more diverse than people seem to remember. Even dinosaur had teeth at the time.
Wow I cant believe this series has made it all the way here. May 2015 was the exact month that my friends and I (re)discovered Yugioh and ive been playing it ever since. really brings back some great memories

It is also worth noting that, at the time, Diamond Crab King was a JUMP promo and was therefore illegal to play in EU territories, so as a result, EU players had a significantly harder time with Towers.
Shout out to Diamond crab king, the fact that that thing had to be played in any rank 4 deck in order to just go minus to out towers was so frustrating and you know I bit that bullet plenty of times.
The best way you could have played game 3 Cimoo is to SS the Graff and normal the scarm so that you have all three back row online and then Graff for MBT's turn
Ah this deck. Ran into it once when I got into a local scene for Yugioh with a bunch of dragons. Glad to see that we finally got to my first actual set I came into the game.
I remember people chatting about Diamond Crab King being an out to Towers at the time, but of course since it was a manga promo, it wasn't legal in EU territories, meaning they had a somewhat harder time with Towers.
can we please see - ba vs nekroz as was wcq format - perfromage nekroz, perfromage shaddoll, and clowblade, as of ycs dallas 2015 (so including norden, the lists without norden were a bit jank) - nekroz mirror match without djinn (arguably more skillfull and still super difficult) - early kozmo lists that were breaking out would be nice huge fan of the entire 2015 year of ygo, my locals does time wizards for october of that year. also put joseph on the kroz. ty :3
I remember watching this last year randomly while eating pumpkin pie. Now I get to watch this with a little bit more knowledge of what the heck has been going on and good Lord man stuff is insane.
I can't wait for next week's intro where it goes "After the increased use of Qli during the dreaded Tier 0 Nekroz format thanks to Apoqliphort Towers there was a banlist players where waiting for... And it did nothing." And then it jumps into the deck profiles.
I realised now, Fiend Griefing is practically Ishizu before Ishizu. Also another although more far fetched parallel is that BA are like upgraded Fabled. Any card which works well with Fableds works even better with BA and they have added bonus on the field. That kind of "similarity" and the fact that Nekroz who slaughtered them were great as well, sort of helps me cope with the fact Fabled was never good.
And if you think about it, tearlament is basically upgraded lightsworn. "If you do....pretty much anything. Mill the top X cards of your deck." "If this is milled, benefit"
Superheavy Samurai’s we’re a natural out to Towers. With their beefy Defence being used for attacks meant that Big Ben and Susanowo were able to beat over it. Also the fact that Cyber Dragon was naturally ran in this deck along with Star Eater made this deck the perfect anti Towers deck.
@@seth131 It doesn't because of the way it's worded, crab king doesn't raise it's attack by 3000 but changes it to 3000 so all prior modifiers simply don't matter.
I honestly feel as if he does it on purpose because he thinks it’s funny and just to get a rise out of people since the number right one example is Stratos being STRAYTOS
Can't wait until we are in the pendulum era with Jank as well. There are so much garbage flying around in the ArcV era that is at least interesting like Train-Shaddolls I personally however, would hope for a shoutout of the Legacy of the Worthless series, where the Machine dup-Genex combo was discovered. Which on the low end is a +3 and a +6 at the high end. Which is comparable to the the Machine Dup Quick Fix play from Spyral format
Okay, so there are a total of 19 Burning Abyss cards in Alex's main, side, and extra besides Barbar. The total max damage he could deal off of Barbar in theory is 19 * 300 which equals 5700. This means that in order to win against a turn one Towers, Alex would have to banish at least 17 of the available cards, dealing a minimum of 5100 damage, THEN attack directly with Nightmare Shark for 1500, HAVE IT LIVE FOR A TURN, and do it again. Or deck him out. Jesus Christ.
Well... don't forget that Scout burns 800 each time it's used, same for Skill Drain with 1000 and that you can still beat over some of the smaller ones to deal damage. It is a little odd that there were 2 acid golems of destruction in the extra, feel like whoever built that deck probably thought that it outs towers which it doesn't cause of the atk reduction
Hey Cimo, do you think you could update your blocked words list? All these spammers say the exact same phrase and you could probably get rid of them if you filter those out.
Can I just say that as a MtG player, seeing how Mind crush works is frustrating in that you can’t activate it if you don’t have a hand. In MtG , effects can be activated even if nothing would come of it. You can target a player with no hand with an effect that makes them discard and it would still be a legal game action
I’m trying to master and create a very rare Flying Fortress Sky Fire deck. Now that pendulums make it liable. I got a really really good start on it, however, the only down side is it makes it to where your opponent can summon a bunch of monster on their turn but prevents them from attacking. It can’t break boards either until the the boss monster is out but even then it’s hard.
Is nobody gonna talk about the killer situation in europe? The few outs (diamond crab and utopia lightning) were usa only promos, in europe the qli problem was much worst
Card Rulings:Burning Abyss *The effect "If you control a monster that is not a "Burning Abyss" monster, destroy this card." is a Continuous Effect. (If you control a monster that is not a "Burning Abyss" monster during the Damage Step, this effect is still applied.) *Even if you control a monster that is not a "Burning Abyss" monster like "Tour Guide From the Underworld", you can still Normal Summon a monster like "Scarm, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss". In that case, "Scarm, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss" is destroyed by its own effect. OOPS, Cimoooooooo cheated with those Tour Guide Summons into Dante... Just par for the series I guess.
Tour Guide negates the effects of the monster it summons. This includes a BA monster's self-destruction effect. It's why the deck is so insane, because she's a 1 card XYZ that gives you a GY effect and also 3 mills. Now, if we want to talk about cheating, we can point at the fact that Alex has 2 Tour Guides in his deck, when she is supposed to be limited to 1. Because of how strong she makes BA.
Last game just normal summon scarm special graff, detach scarm and the EP search makes all your disruption is live, no need to choose 2 out of 3. That loss is on Cimo
I remember seeing the absolute worst hand imaginable against towers turbo in this format. I was playing shaddoll at the time and going second against towers turbo I opened triple El shaddoll fusion and double shaddoll fusion. I think I drew a squamata for turn. I scooped and went to game 2 without revealing what I was playing
I absolutely forgot that Mind Crush's text required you to have a card in hand. Here I was thinking that the issue would be the use of the word "all" meaning that since there was a Scout in the Extra Deck it technically wouldn't be every copy.
Are we not gonna mention this version of qli was only available in Europe because of wavering eyes being a special edition card whilst the out diamond crab King was only available in America
I am pretty sure you had 100% mispronounced the Qliphorts incorrectly. It's normally *Klee-Forts* or some variant with *Kli*. And then the biggest issue is Apoqliphort Towers. The way you say it literally wants me to chuck my phone at the nearest wall. (A-pah-klee-fort), so it's like you are saying Apocalypse but replace "calypse" with "qliphort".
Sooo.....jank idea for outing towers at the time could have been a generic pendulum deck that can summon Obelisk or Ra.....pretty funny since they also need 3 tributes
One of my most hated decks from all of Yu-Gi-Oh. Towers was not fun to play against at all. You guys mentioned crab king but when going into it you had to worry about chalice, skill drain, emptyness or them just setting up another towers the next turn.
You should have special summoned graff and not scarm since you didn’t have fire lake. You could’ve searched during the end phase and then had the card for mind crush while still getting cir/tgu.
infernoid onuncu can out towers since its level 10. pretty funny if it happens. I guess runnning an infernoid package in decks wasn't very viable. Personally i think nekroz vs qli and all the others would be better than this and it would be a more representative for the history of yugioh. After all we already got qli vs BA before but we haven't seen nekroz vs them yet.
Im curious maybe ill get the answer here: Back when towers was the problem, and we in EU hadnt access to crab king a few friends and i came up with the idea to play "Share the pain". Now my question would have had that worked to let my opponent clear tower?
does ba even have a singular card that outs towers. acid golem has thanks to that -500 debuf not enough atk, zenmains does not activate for the protection but the destruction is an activated effect and giga brilliant would need 2 turn to get acid golem over 3500. the only possible way i see is to deck out qli by dante cir looping to averte the towers send to grave effect to dante away from fortune tune who takes the attack of towers for 3 turn in which you draw 3 cards including the 2 level 3 you shuffle back to reset fortune tune and that only works if you make it so that qli has no longer monster in the deck that could also attack fortune tune to deplete materials faster than 1 a turn
7:53 I about chocked on my thanksgiving stuffing when Cimo said “Farfa”. I didn’t think he would be able to say that name since he always acts like Farfa doesn’t exist and censors the patron names with Farfa in them 😂🤣😂🤣
Please play my kozmo antitowers no back row that I used to won my regional on bogota Colombia it’s a fun deck that also played Jeff jones back that season.
How did BA win against qli then? I know cimo said barbar loop into nightmare shark but that sounds so cope against a deck that can deep draw into vanity? Or even prolly side deck anti burn cards. This looks like an impossible mu.
Most decks did instantly lose to a stuck Towers. That's why it was banned. Utopia Lighting was virtually the only decent extra deck out before links. And it wasn't around yet. Towers is a completely different kind of unfun and broken than other busted stuff like Nekroz or Edrags. Which all also inevitably get annihilated by the banlist.
I'm a pure innocent soul who's never faced apoqlyphort towers. So could anyone tell me what's the difference between "activated effects from monsters" and the usual "monster effects"?
It's affected by continuous effects. For example you can't activate the send monster effects under Majesty's fiend because it's a continuous effect even though it's a lower level.
"Activated effect" means any effect that starts a chain. Think stuff like Baronne's pop or negate. If Towers was immune to all monster effects it would also be immune to continuous effects like, for example, Buster Dragon's effect to passively change its type to Dragon and the Fusion Buster Blader's effect that passively negates the effects of all Dragons.
Also, a lingering effect, or an effect that applies later than the moment it's activated, such as Mirrorjade's effect upon leaving the field, also pops Towers and other similar monsters, like Cyberdark End Dragon.
