This podcast has quickly turned into my fav! Masmorra is a great host. Not holding back on the tough questions (like how much money T90 and TheViper got), but not being too pushy nor inconsiderate. This gives a sense of honesty and transparency in the community. Excellent host!! Having TheViper there as a co-host all the time also makes for a great duo for the professional insights. Please keep this going, I really like the format, the interviews, and the podcast as a whole!
Couldn't agree more. I think masmorra is the most likeable guy ever, very eloquent, very kind and a nice balance between funny and professional. I really envy that, I hope this podcast works out well, the guests also bring valuable insight

I've been waiting for this one for a long time. And I miss T90. Weird how much a guy on another part of the world talking and showing a game can be such a huge part of a life.
I think Titans league will contribute massivley to a new hidden cup, we will all have seen many more amazing players so more people to guess. It has also raised the standards, the top 8-12 players are so so good! I hope Tristan can do as much as possible to stop players guessing who they are up against from things other than play style. Things like quick walls aren't just a viper giveaway, so many amazing talents now. Hyped! Time to click 'forgot my password' on twitch! Also, hope to see some more masta-pizzas from Vipa! *Edit typos, clearly too excited
I remember subscribing to T90s YT channel back when he had less than 10K subs (maybe less than 5K) and I knew he was going to be successful because of the attitude he had towards his content. I'm not a religious follower of AoE content, I kinda circle back and forth every few months but nevertheless it makes me so happy to see how successful he's become over the years. Congrats to you T90, you've made an impact to the community in a positive way and I'm sorry that you got so much backlash over the Facebook stuff. You deserve the success you've gotten and it was nice to see an interview like this to get to know the man behind the scenes a bit better. Much love to Viper as well, his smurf videos were the ones that got me back into AoE as an adult and I'm glad to see his success now too. Congrats to both of you!
Something to consider with dual streaming to Twitch and RU-vid. T90 said that he doesn't really want to do that because of chat. As a RU-vid viewer, I do not care about chat, it is actually something I do not like. I only watch live on Twitch for major events, but I would 100% flip on a T90 or Viper livestream on RU-vid if it was there and I have no intention of chatting. I guess my advice would be to toss a poll up on your RU-vid channel to find out if anyone even cares about chat on RU-vid. If no one cares make a new RU-vid channel, make it clear you focus on chat with Twitch, and dual cast.
@@skipper472 it still might. Like I watch content on space, science, history, military stuff, and AOE2. There is only so much space in my recommendations for AOE2 content when it competes with my other interests. A live stream from T90Live could bump a video from T90Official off my main page. Do that across 1 million potential viewers and I am sure you end up with some people that do not end up on a T90Official video that otherwise would have. Maybe that balances out with the new people you pull into the live stream? However, I rarely watch recommended videos anyway and focus on my subscription feed. So, I wouldn't be one of those people, but i believe RU-vid shows channel owners how people get to their videos so I assume they have data I do not.
I have an explanation for why viewership was so low. Facebook made it really hard to get on your live streaming channel as there was also your normal profile which the facebook search function would direct you to. It always took me 10+ clicks to get to the video of yours I wanted on the platform vs twitch/youtube where it was fewer than 5 clicks. Alongside that I am often a tv watcher (with phone app for chat) and the issues around facebook vs facebook gaming app and the eventual closure of it meant I couldn't watch using my preferred method on either my phone or tv. Followed you over and subscribed at the start but I just ended up watching on youtube.
I love and have always loved how classy this community is. The respect they give to each other, the humbleness, it's just so great. I think it all starts with Viper and his personality. He is such a great example of how to be and act. I'm not saying the rest don't also act accordingly, they do. It's a very impressive community all around.
I think its kind of disrespectful to the whole community to think its mostly because of viper. Viper is a great persona and ofc he plays a huge role in it but the community is great because the COMMUNITY is great
@@TokurErdem I didn't say it was mostly because of him. I said it started with him. He was the king first, and he handled himself so well. Also, I have seen hints of vanity, grudges, and arrogance from others at times. Just hints. As I said they all impress me. But I've never seen anything of the sort from Viper.
Also I just want to say that I love love love T90. I'm so impressed with his journey, his ambition, his willingness to put the work in. I've watched T90 more than any other Age of Empire person. I didn't mean to detract from him or anyone with my comment about Viper.
@@mattius459I saw it this way too. I do believe that the best player being very agreeable and polite has had it's ripple effect on the community. Most of the community looks up to him to some regard and it's hard to dislike someone like Viper. Nothing against any of the others, they all seem very respectful too.
Even though FB was a pain, I did enjoy being able to chat to Viper and T90 and feel like you were actually having a conversation rather than the stream of emotes and in jokes that you get on Twitch. Also they seemed to be more likely to be on at the times I could see them live in Australian time.
Before anybody complains why they didn't put out numbers: they are most likely not allowed to. Even if their contract expired, stuff like financial details or other conditions are still secret by the contract. This works even now. And they would net get any contract in the future, if they share such details so freely, because parties rely on that details of contracts, especially financial onces, remains secret.
One major plus of Viper and T90 being back on Twitch is the network effects that can help grow the whole community. Right now I regularly log on to Twitch and can't find either an AOE streamer I like or the content my favorite streamers are doing is not something I'm interested in. More quality creators will increase total engagement leading to more favorable treatment by Twitch to promote AOE and so forth.
Absolutely excellent hosting and moderating from Masmorra. Professional, asks good questions, and keeps the conversation moving at a good pace. Keep it up!
Big +1 to T90s comment about him becoming a better caster over the 2 years at Facebook. I definitely think that was the case as a primary YT viewer. The recent casts have been very high quality and I hope that remains in coming back to Twitch.
I honestly love the fact that the two best players are such good friends/acquaintances that one seeks advice from the other concerning such a big decision in life like switching streaming platforms.
I havent watched yet, but I'm hyped for the topics! I'm enjoying competitive AoE2 on and off; always wanted to catch a stream of T90, but when I found out it was on facebook... nope ty
people like keeping there gaming life and real life seperate, but the hype for these two people comming back to twitch or where ever just shows how much people love watching there streams
T90, I'm certain 99% of the "moral" criticisms over Facebook were just an excuse, the real reason is that people want a separation between their online identity and real life. And the more hardcore they are, both as a gamer and a stream-watcher, the more that is true.
A friend bought me my first Age of Empires II on 30th of September 1999, the day it came out. Up until then I read every article about it in Gamestar and PC Games. I can't believe I was exactly 16 years old, back then. It feels like I was 12. And nearly a quarter of a century later, I learn about that Viper guy, who and his team build up a business around it :D 😀 😍 🤩 not just by playing, but committing to a style of fairness, tenderness, relaxation... those millions you make are really well earned.
When you hear Tristan talking like this you can tell the guy is extremly inteligent. The feeling I have is that hes super smart and also naturaly a bit cocky of which..because he's so smart he's aware and tries to mitigate it so he sort of holds back In some ways and that results in him seeming a bit distant, standoffish and not easily approachable. Tristan is a super cool guy, nice to hear him talk about his life. Honestly I find the decision to not multistream completly crazy. There is no downside. The algorithm thing is a conspiracy theory and if youre afraid of that (irrational but fair) just make a streaming channel and shout out it for a month. You just get a completly new market of people that would never watch streams otherwise.
The first year I was able to watch both streams. But after that, it constantly froze. No matter if I changed the latency, etc. I am able to watch all other platforms but FB. So happy that I will be able to watch again.
Extremely agree with T90 there. Having a non meta map pool forces preparation and that is actually fair. The top player will complain about prepping which tells you why its important to have tournaments with completely new map pool.
Podcast is great! I usually try to listen via my watch when I'm going for a run which I can only do once it has been uploaded to Spotify. Seems to be a couple of days behind RU-vid. Would be good if they were available at the same time.
Moral judgements aside, Facebook screwed up big time with how they implemented their "gaming streaming" platform. They didn't integrate it well with their regular service, failing to bring in new watchers from Facebook proper. They went out of their way to make it hard to watch the streams. The experience was just bad and felt half assed by Facebook, with such a clunky interface and pretty bad performance on top of that.
T90 hit the nail on head in regards to the Facebook push back. It is convenient for people to hate Facebook for no real reason if they don't use the service. Meanwhile will have no issue watching services owned by Google and Amazon who are just as, if not worse corporations.
Yes, I wish they had explored with viper WHY they advised Hera to turn it down. Would have been interesting. So t90 and Viper have both had 2Mil+ contracts, and they are on tens of thousands per month for twitch and RU-vid. Man alive I'm jealous. Congratulations both, keep bringing the good content!
@@noahmiller91 Well, they kinda confirmed that they got offered more than that, so that might be the reason why he adviced to turn it down. Viper knew first hand how much Facebook were willing to pay, and Hera would have been taking a decent amount less than them. I think it was solid advice, Hera could have got a similar offer to what T90 and Viper got for sure, and if Facebook was willing to pay them that much, why settle for less
@@noahmiller91 Its so annoying people dont listen. When Viper told him to turn down the contract it was under 1.4 million. That was the Final offer her got, and Viper advised him correct. I think there was a release of leak from twitch and I think 2 years ago at that time was making close to 150k per year from twitch. With the growth of his channel etc If he was offered anything under a million it probably wouldn't be worth it for 2 years. At the end of the day people take this too seriously, everyone should do whats in the best interest for them and their family.
@19:00 I think for me it was strictly the UI which was clanky and not easy to access, view when streams are even on, select VODs and highlights etc, the chat was not real time, and you had to constantly change your profile about. It was finicky and the platform failed you guys
Facebook suck in so many ways. Realistically I'll have to use my personal account, which I don't want to do. The player sucks, it's just awful. It would be buggy, audio and streaming issues. The chat sucks, half of it was just spam it felt like the few times I did watch T90 on facebook. Everything related to streaming, with the exception of T90, was worse. I also don't watch anyone else on facebook, so how am I supposed to know when he's online and streaming? I commend Tristan for taking the deal, it was a lot of money that helps secure his future in streaming, and I'm very happy he's coming back to Twitch :)
For simulcasting to youtube it would be best for the twitch streamer to have a Live YT channel which is separate from their clips or short video channel. The algorithm doesn't like different types of content on one channel and this includes shorts, VODs and streams all on one channel.
