This engine the 1UZFE is the main reason I first fell in love with Lexus almost 25 yrs. ago, currently am driving for the past 7 yrs. my 98' GS400 as my every day car!!
Nice video, you kept it interesting and short. I hope 1UZs become a common engine to work but eventually it will, aftermarket is getting stronger by the day.
Thanks mate, I appreciate the feedback, especially to do with length of the video. I didn’t want it to look to rushed but definitely don’t like videos that drag on to get one thing across 😁
I can’t wait for more videos. Clayton, the info you’re giving me was the exact information I’ve been needing for helping me decide if I want to work on the stock 2jz-ge or swap in a 1uz or 3uz. Really excited for this channel!
Wow thanks a lot Ronald, I really appreciate that. I will be making a video soon putting a twin turbo 1uz into a MK4. Also an NA-t build I’ve already started. Thanks again 😁😁👍
@@KingLexus there's a whole video series on my channel👍 keep the charger and add a rear mount In to the mix as well, now that would be cool af😎😎 i use an intake check valve from a Volvo Penta Marine engine that's charged and turbo, so I can still use a pod filter up front for NA throttle response instead of dragging the intake the whole length of the pipework. Works great👍
Currently in the process of building my 1uz from my sc400 to get it ready for a supercharger. Main problem, at least in the US, is sourcing parts. Also picking up an sc300 this month. Heard alot of good things from the 1uz prior to buying and I hope I get the same results
Definitely doing something with this engine as I have 2 now. It’s going on my Esprit With twin 19t Saab/Lotus turbos Subby 6 spd Megasquirt and lots of tuning
100% agree with you. If I had a 4th gens Supra or Soarer/SC400 that 1UZ-FE is the engine to have. It's an amazing design and over built just like the 2J series. Have you continued to make videos about the 1UZ?
Currently building my 1uzfe Soarer. Going down the supercharger route as the turbo setup seems a bit out of reach for now. Great to see some support out here as Uzs don't get much love. Thanks for all the solid info in your videos
I daily my 2000 LS400, and the engine is faultless. Pulls like a train on top, but only on occasion as the torque is plenty! All engines need to eat now and again, so she sees 6000 as well. Love this engine, Toyota has this dialed in.
I just LOVE my 98 GS400! Such an awesome vehicle. This thing is a TANK. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be alot about boosting this car. Idk if it is because there are far more 2jzs out there or maybe the cost is much higher. I would love to know your thoughts on MORE POWER coming from a turbo, supercharger or other bolt ons. Thanks for the AWESOME videos mate, I really look forward to them!
The 1UZ-FE was in the LS400/CELSIOR when the UCF10 model was introduced, which was way before 1999. My 1996 Celsior has a 1UZ-FE 2nd generation, the 3rd generation which includes the VVT-I and OBD II was introduced in 1999 but carry on.
First, thank you very much for putting out this video; any information on these beauty engines is hard to find and I noticed you used a picture from Lextreme website of the piston comparisons. 😉 I've read that someone drilled, tapped, the 2UZ-FE making it into a 6-bolt; just wondering about how much you think these engines can put out whilst still remaining reliable.
It took me 10 years to find a SC400 in Germany, as they haven't been sold in Europe. Would love to turbo it, but that would create a problem with the Historical status of that Car. I'm dailing a IS300 Sportcross but the 1UZ is way cooler than the 2JZ.
Was going to use 2uz fe now getting 1 us fe but want to boost 15 psi just need to change the injectors and vvti head gasget set for turbocharged application
Epic knowledge in this video are you from NZ? Also what is the best budget ecu for 1UZ vvti thats the main issue with the engine is spending 1k-2k just for an ECU throws away its "budget" ability
Man great insight I own a first gen LS400 (UCF10) and slowly building it. I am probably going to go the supercharger route as it is less invasive going turbo. Going to use an m90 from a Ford but having a hard time locating an adapter plate to go replace the air intake manifold to fit the supercharger. Probably going to run 6-8 psi not much since it’s a daily anyways just wanted some tips or point me in the right direction that’s cheaper then Bullet lol they want like 6k for the set up.
lakha Lakho Bit hard to park. It's 5m long. Some interior bits like to go wrong like the dash cracking and trim just peeling. Getting a proper sound connection with your phone is painful. No aux. Otherwise love it.
I'm seriously considering one of these to swap into my RX8. Which one would you choose best? However, I want to keep it N/A. Can you increase the displacement of a 1UZ to 4.5 and up?
After seeing the cost of 2jz ge non vvtis compared to the UZ family on eBay, Im having second thoughts about 2j swapping my ol' Mustang and doing a 1uz swap for about 400 hp instead. Most of them that I can see used are less than 1.5K USD! That and I didn't really want a Coyote or LS.
Hi there. So I'm boosting my 2uzfe and got eagle connecting H beam rods to compensate with APR studs. Wanted to know if you can recommend a aftermarket ready made pistons to go with the build ? Besides going for Ross pistons custom fabricate option.
Yes, that red Supra is one of my favorite projects on RU-vid right now. I’m not sure how nice it would be to drive on the road though as the lag would be ridiculous, combined with a that old school drag auto. Sometimes one big number doesn’t tell the whole story of what the car is like to actually drive. Still, It will rip apart most cars in a straight line.
@@supravworld8777 Agreed. I think around 600hp with an auto would be pretty driveable tho. Especially if do everything proper and get a really nice tune. Most people don't make power with 1uz because they don't want to pay for a new ecu and wiring and tune.
I mean the Toyota soarer/ sc400 came out and 1991 a few years before the Supra and they share the same chassis with the same Supra so it’s not that surprising 1uz can fit in a Supra
Well depending on your year car will let you know what kind of 1uz you have. because they change through the years. start there and then plan what you want to do
I have a 96 SC400.. beautiful machine! I've carefully removed 500 lbs from the car, while retaining the luxury features (all but the heavy factory seats). Answer to your question is difficult; you may want to keep it completely in tack and original. These cars are capable of becoming a extremely well mannered and predictable sports car vs. GT cruiser, but you'll have to lose some weight, dump all the emissions, lower and tighten up the suspension, add supraTT sway bars, solid diff bushings/rear subframe mounts, battery relocation and the list goes on..headers and intake will net 20-25 HP. Anyway, the SC is a treasure no matter how you approach it. Congrats on purchasing one of the finest sport GT coupes ever produced w/ likely the best Japanese manufactued V8!
If you turbo the car, then relocate battery to passenger side(trunk), delete A/C (unfortunately), delete hydro fan(electric fan), flip exaust manifolds, locating turbo directly in front of radiator and downpipe passengers side. I've not actually done the build, but I have researched...this seems to be the best and most cost efficient method (single turbo)
I've heard the 2 uz just doesn't like much boost and Toyota discontinued the supercharger option. I believe it was consitant rod failers? I'm hearing from my research, that the gen2(95-97) 1uz can handle up to 500 crank HP or 6-8psi reliably, while the Gen1 UZ 89-early 94(larger rods) can handle over 800 hp reliably. This is aquired information from several sources, including a New Zealand manufacturer of superchargers. Sorry, I'm unable to offer more information on the 2uz. It's basically a truck motor(towing): for lower rpm, high torque applications whereas, the 1UZ was designed as a GT 500 racing engine. Toyota simply derated the unit w/lower compression pistons and a mild ECU program for a targeted luxury market product line, which would out perform and outlast the established competition . Remember, Lexus was a brand new company and had to make an impression. They actually, we're giving an unlimited budget with the LS400 r&d and literally created a small community of the best workers, designers and engineers, during the development of the LS 400. This is why the 1uz's are able to last up to a million+ miles..they were literally overbuilt due to their original intended purpose. I'm not sure why the 1uz never saw it true purpose, I believe that, Toyota (TRD) pulled out of the racing scene for several years?
Can you point me in the direction of anyone with plans/specs for 1uz turbo build? Recently purchased one and am eager to boost the v8. Looking for about 500hp. Looking to keep a/c and power steering
Gx's 4.7L have drop forged internals.... tundra 4.7 and any domestic made toyota have just forged. I have a '04 LX470 2uz sittin in the garage. And 2 '99 1uz's beside her.. get them while you still can... anything comming out of japans Huge Lexus primary plant exports the best!
@@raould860 where are you located?? I hope you don't mind if I asked🤔. I'm trying to break away from the usually over landing builds for the gx470s, they are extremely capable trucks, but extremely underpowered compared to others. I do know they are offered overseas in some countries, as turbo diesels, but get the watered down versions here in the states 😒. A twin turbo setup would definitely break necks, mine included 😂😂😂😂
