I've had my Camry for 3 months now, so I thought I'd just give an update. I think the first thing to say is that in over 35 years of driving, this is without doubt the best car I've ever owned, hands down. I've had BMWs, Mercs, and all sorts in my time, but this Camry tops the lot of them. You can tell that it's built for the American market because Americans tend to rack up star ship mileages and expect to do so in comfort and quietness in a car that will go on forever. The Camry ticks those boxes and feels like it will last a lifetime. Personally, I'm sick to the absolute back teeth of hideous Euro suspension, therefore, to ride in the Camry is a revelation, it's wonderfully soft and comfortable even despite the fact that Toyota put stiffer dampers on their Euro models. I went for the Design grade because it's got smaller 17" wheels and deeper tyres, and that's exactly what you need in the UK to cope with the terrible condition of the roads here. Another thing I've noticed is that the windscreen washer bottle holds 5 litres! It lasts for months and you get a message to tell you when you need to fill it up. Such a useful feature. In terms of fuel economy, this car has halved my fuel bill. I've always needed to fill up every 2 weeks with every other car I've owned, with the Camry, it's once a month. Over a year, that's a lot of money, probably around £700 in my case. That covers the insurance, road tax and a service, so that's all money that I don't need to find now. We're all lead to believe that if you want good fuel economy you need a diesel or one of those ridiculous 1 litre, 3 cylinder turbo charged things that they seem to put in every car these days. Well, I did have one, I had a Civic 1.0 turbo, and the best I got out of that was around 39 mpg. The Camry regularly returns 60 to 65, and on some journeys when the weather was warmer I was getting 74 mpg or more! All of that from a stonking 2.5 litre luxury car. Hats off to Toyota for this. I was always dead against anything remotely electric, but I'm a total hybrid convert now. It just works so well. What ever you want to do, it just does it and instantly too. The normally aspirated engine means there is no lag or delay, and the transition between electric and petrol power is so seamless, it's like if you didn't know it was a hybrid, you wouldn't know. I've never needed to go anywhere near full throttle, it's blisteringly quick when you want it to be and if you take the trouble to learn how to operate the planetary gear set transmission and get the best out of it, it's a superb unit. Modest, smooth, progressive throttle inputs will give you the best results. This transmission is nothing like a conventional auto and the foot to the floor approach is not the way to do it! It does appear that the motoring press and professional reviewers tend to be obsessed with 0 to 60mph acceleration times. It's a ridiculous, irrelevant measurement. We've all seen the reviews, car A against car B. Car A does 0 to 60 in 7.2 seconds and car B languishes behind at a woefully inadequate and positively pedestrian 7.3 seconds. Don't buy car B, it doesn't make the grade and won't trouble anything German etc. etc. It's just pathetic. Who, in the real world, spends their time going from a standing start to 60 mph at full throttle at every opportunity? Nobody is the answer to that, except maybe for a couple of idiots who go past my house at 3 in the morning. The way a car handles merging onto a motorway, or overtaking at higher speeds, how it handles getting out at mega busy junctions or passing a cyclist would be far more informative and relevant to everyday driving. With that in mind, the Camry handles every eventuality effortlessly and instantly, I really couldn't wish for more. The only niggles I have are the fact that the folding mirrors are not linked to the door locks so you have manually retract and extend them every time, and also, the clocks don't change between GMT and BST automatically, you have to go into the menus and do it yourself, plus, there are 3 different clock displays, one in the instrument binnacle, and 2 in the centre console and you have to do them all separately and individually as changing one doesn't change the others. Small fry really, but just a couple of things I would address. In terms of image and badge appeal, yes, I fully accept that I've splashed out 30K on a car that, in the UK at least, has always been considered to be as popular and desirable as a rattle snake in a lucky dip, and historically, nobody under 65 would be seen dead in one. I've had it all from my friends. YOU'RE INSANE, why would you buy that pile of crap, for that money you could have had a Beemer or a Benz or an Audi! Then I take them out for a ride and they go very quiet. Oh, mmmm, it's actually nicer than my mate's A6! Yes it is, take da shame tho! I would say dare to be different and don't slag this car unless you've tried one. With only 500 ear marked for the UK market you're guaranteed exclusivity, and I think it's highly unlikely I'll ever see another one. Plus, nobody would want to nick it!

Here in Australia, it seems that we've got a lot more smart people like you. Camrys are everywhere. They're our equivalent of the Mondeo or Passat in Europe. Mercs, Audi's and Beemers do sell in quite healthy, decent numbers here too but they definitely have their place and to an average Joe looking for an efficient, comfortable, reliant, well engineered car, the Camry is really the only benchmark here. They had some slow sales with the old gen but this new model is quickly slipping into our best sellers list

Wow, this review is as if written by myself. I live in central Europe and i've hade mine since March 2020 and i agree 100% of what you say, and have had 90% similar experience with it, the exception is my friends also want one. I drive an almost exact version of the one in this YT-review; black exterior with cream leather interior, but maxed out with even more extra stuff inside like the curtains etc. I have also owned and driven a BMW, Merc and Audi but have never felt love for a car before this one. This Camry is... 1: Absolutely Gorgeous with its SCI-FI Tokyo-esque CYBER design. All those 120 degree angles inside makes it look like a concept car out of a futuristic movie. And that grill, omg, it's the most awesome part of them all. 2: Amazing to drive, it feels as if it weighs 50% of its actual weight. 3. A head turner. People on the street turns their heads when they see it pass by. 4: A chick magnet i tell you. I'm single and i exploit my car in my current situation. Chicks goes from all funny to serious when getting inside the car and look around. They've later told me they were mightily impressed by it and started to wonder who i really was, thinking the car cost over €100'000 because its so elegant, lol. I love my Camry. Few cars today is as cool and special as this. And i'm super happy Toyota f i n a l l y dares to release some seriously awesome design. Even their new Avalon is awesome. But not as awesome as this Camry.

I'm getting one! Took a 24 hour test drive and fell in love with it immediately. What an outstanding piece of engineering this car is. What got me initially is the silence, it is the quietest car I've ever driven by a long way, yes, there is some road noise, but it's well suppressed, and it doesn't get any louder. I found it was as quiet at 60mph as 30mph. When you start up and there are just some clicks and electrical wiring sounds, and then nothing, just silence and the gentle hush of the A/C. I've read just about every review and watched every video about this car, and this video review is the best for sure. I'm sick to death of professional car reviewers slagging this car off because it isn't a BMW, Audi or Merc. No it isn't, and neither is it a sports car and it's not designed to be. Drive it how it's meant to be driven and you will be rewarded with a virtually silent, smooth, comfortable and serene experience. Personally, I don't want to know anything about the road or what the wheels are doing, I don't want to hear anything or feel anything, I just want to be cocooned and wafted along in luxury, and this car does exactly that. I couldn't care less about a badge or what anyone else thinks about me because of what I drive, it's the quality of the vehicle that I'm interested in. Drove it around all my usual routes which consist mainly of town and urban driving and according to the trip computer, I was getting 71.8 MPG! The petrol engine rarely comes on if you drive it modestly and gently, which is how hybrids give their best. Can't wait to get my hands on mine and enjoy some serious wafting and very few trips to the petrol station. The cabin is a gorgeous place to be, I love the design of the dash with the curves and the sumptuous leather trim. I love that the sat nav screen is built in and not stuck on the top of the dash like they are in a lot of cars these days, and I love that it's got a proper gear selector, not one of those silly knobs that look like something off a washing machine. It's got a CD player too! I found the car incredibly easy to drive, the steering is finger tip light and you hardly have to touch the break pedal. For such a big car, it feels very nimble and easy to control. It's just so great to finally be able to buy a car like this here in the UK. Not everyone in the world wants a rock hard, track honed, seat of the pants sports car!

@@mrsmith697 You guys have to wait 9 months? That's crazy! I ordered mine 3 weeks ago and it's been built to order, shipped over and I'm getting it tomorrow! Super excited. I also noticed on Bob's video he said a Camry costs €44,000! I just did a quick conversion at today's exchange rate and mine is costing the equivalent of €31,450, for essentially the same car. What is the deal with that, how come it cost so much for you guys? I think our trim levels are slightly different, I'm getting the Design grade. It has everything I want, leather etc. but does without those silly 18" wheels. Here in the UK if you have 18" wheels you need to be good mates with a chiropractor because our roads are nothing better than cart tracks with lines painted on them.

The unlock doors setting was right in front of you. "Unlock All When Set To P". With that set to "On", as soon as you put the car in "Park", the doors unlock. Simple, as you shouldn't be opening the doors with the car in gear anyway. (Camry Hybrid Owner) Edit: Just a couple of additional things. The USB-C adapter you speak of for your phone is the cable that came with the phone..... or any USB-C cable you want to buy. Why would you want to drop the back seats from inside the car? You hardly need to access the boot while you are driving. But while you were in the boot, Toyota needs to update their 1980’s type hinge that encroaches into the boot space when closed. I guess a Wee in the centre console proves it’s waterproof?😁 As I understand it Apple CarPlay/Android Auto is coming to RHD Toyota markets at the end of the year for Toyotas based on the TNGA architecture with Entune 2 infotainment (certainly Australia and NZ). Regardless of the above comments, this is one of the best car reviews I have watched in a while. Keep it up.

Hi Bob Yeah - a Toyota will never be a status symbol, but it will never be up for laughs either. Maybe that’s the problem for the company when they’re making luxury cars and it’s really not fair. Toyota seldom invents the new technology but they very often implement it better than so many other companies. Quality! But who cares for that if you can get yourself a new Mercedes/BMW/Audi with even newer technology (-with teething problems) for around double the price? I drive a BMW myself and love it - but I think we should give the company the respect it deserves.

Hi, I might be wrong about the locks, but I think it is a security implementation. If you stop the car and pull the handle, only your door opens. The other doors remain locked, until intentionally unlocked, thus preventing any uninvited guest from jumping in next to you and forcibly stealing your car or making you drive the car to their chosen location.

Stopping the car and putting it in park “by default” unlocks the doors. You can change this setting though.... This applies to the version of the Camry SE sold in the US... The version in this video is obviously different with the steering wheel on the right side of the car...

Bob hear are my thoughts on the car, I wrote this before seeing your detailed review by the way. What I learnt here is I notice in Ireland you get 3 levels of trim to choose from, Toyota UK offer 2 levels missing the top level I suspect. The Excel is the UK top level which I think will be Ireland's mid level. Excel does not have cream seat option nor Subwoofer. Toyota Camry Excel (for reference i'm coming from a Lexus IS300H 2.5l CVT Hybrid) I drove a demonstrator Camry Excel in the North East UK for 2 days June 2019. I immediately noticed wind noise on what was a very windy day, though the car didn't get blown about. I did a mixed drive from Newcastle to Wooler and back (108 mile) returning average 52mpg without really trying, I feel the lexus would have been the same. Which leads me to think that the Camry’s new engine may be more economical but the slightly extra dimensions and wheel size hold it back, or maybe the fact it only had 1700 mile on the clock! Overtaking from 50mph the Camry seems to pick up quicker than the Lexus. Throttle and braking control seemed very sensitive, though I become accustomed to it. The Good: The cabin is spacious, lots of safety tech on board and oozes data on driving economy. Love the design of the dashboard sweeping down to the drive select. No foot operated parking brake (great), the parking brake engages when you select ‘P and releases automatically when you pull away’. Takes speed humps nicely. Didn't notice any bad habits in the handling department. Getting in and out is easy with the auto power retracting steering wheel. The Bad: 18” wheel harshness over potholes. Firmer seats that took until the second day before they seemed to be ok, designed to suit the wider back, the materials stitching was not symmetrical on one seat whereas it was on the other. Centre console armrest padding was noticeably thin ooh my elbow. No paddle shift to induce engine braking. Found a vacant place for a subwoofer in the boot explaining why the sound system was lacking bass. I noticed the extra width of the Camry when passing traffic on narrow roads. Though none of the above are deal breakers. Conclude the Toyota Camry is a lovely car, you get plenty of car for your money £31,295 in the UK, a bit too much car actually because you will struggle to fit it into Supermarket or DIY store parking space, it's a bit long. Getting back into the Lexus its seats felt like ...the best, though the narrower cabin seemed very enclosing in comparison. A difficult choice ahead. From a company car point of view the Camry will save me and the company money. Has the latest safety tech and is spacious all round.

I'm a Taxidriver of an Avensis and the auto-door lock is the bane of my existence. I've had passengers thinking that I keep it them locked in until they pay. There is a daft reset that doesn't work; hold down lock button while turning the ignition to a certain point, buy I can't get it to stay changed. An OBD2 reset is possible but Toyota have to do it.

Hi Bob, we're driving a Camry Hybrid in Canada (this model has been available since 2017 as a 2018 model) - Apple car play is available on the infotainment system as a system upgrade at the dealer - cost was $25 Canadian. Perhaps also available in Europe. Native map system is dodgy, better go with Google maps after installing the infotainment upgrade. Car is excellent otherwise.

Andrzej Budzyński so 4th generation would imply an evolution of the engine basic architecture. The problem with the price is that we do not manufacutre it in EU which means transport cost and 20% custom tax for the engines above 2.0 litres. Other reason is thst EU version has a better suspension and soundproof insulation. Better brakes but this all does not explain the price. Oh if it was Audi BMW or Merk it would be the best car ever. Due to it not been an EU brand they are all biased apart from Bob. Im not to bothered about the audio system thats in it as im not to techno minded but its the size of the screen that would bother me. Which i think is small and it would look better if it was like the screens that are in the new Superb or Passat. It looks like a screen from a VW Caddy van. The Camry looks better in a dark colour.
