Update: Just saw a Midnight Purple V-Spec R34, got to sit in it, and can say that it really is awesome. It smells good, and the smell is so strong that you can smell it from 2 meters away!
Ivan Jadan It was through initial d that made me fell in love with drifting and cars. And i still remember i was searching for how drift started and keiichi was mentioned. From then on, he's my idol.
I remember hearing that lovely engine note the first time I watched initial d. I did everything in my power to at least try and recreate that sound. Unfortunately with my dusty ass air I can't use ITBs so I'm stuck with a CAI. It's got the throaty growl but it's just not the same 😥
@@duckydammet2646 Should have used ITG or Pipercross filter like all the Weber carbed cars did in rally, you get a way larger intake and filtered area so more air will make it into the engine than with a single throttle body anyway, that's the point of ITB's and carbs. Open stacks is mostly a novelty idea, something you only do in clean air or during a race.
Jon Tendo it’s not a turbo because you can’t hear one on the inside of the car, and I’ve heard a turbo make noise and it’s a high pitched whine and there was not a single turbo sound coming from the engine.
funny how people are fighting over how a american car can beat this, American car or any v8 car is only good for straight line drags, this 86 has little power but will beat any v8 out there any day when drifting/corner racing like this
@@redgamer2596 i mean the 86 in the video is heavily tuned for the touge, and there's a stock R34 against it so it makes sense if it were the same format but with new cars
Tsuchiya Keiichi, also known as the Mountain King or Drift King. The man in the AE86 is the man who is solely responsible for the invention and implementation of the drift.
Well, I kind of overshot the weight of the AE86, I forgot it weighs a lot less than 3,000 lb, but that skyline looked stock, Most stocks (depending on which model) weigh in at 3,200-3,600lb, which isn't as efficient as the AE86 which is hell of a light car
Agreed. I have a 2005 Mustang GT that I use at the drag strip and a 1995 Nissan 240sx project car that I use at tracks. I also have a '98 Toyota Corolla that I use for gas mileage haha. But yes I agree, America focuses more on power and Japan focuses on handling but if you look at cars like the Camaro ZL1 and the Mustang Boss 302 (2012) you'll see more than just power on both. Also check out the Viper ACR, that beat European cars and Japanese cars on the Nurburgring.
in this case we are talking about touge, mountain pass. its not about the power anymore but the power to weight ratio of the car itself. just like what tsuchiya in the full version of this video said about balance. i recognise american cars have huge power but on the downhill, its a different story alrdy since breaking point is different. even in this vid, the underpowered 86 beat the BNR34 which is enough to show that on mountain passes, power doesnt much determine the outcome
Tsuchiya appears in Initial D (Act 1) as Bunta's racer friend who calls him up from the race track on the phone near the end of that series. Of course, his face is not shown.
@GranTurismo360 Yes, except wouldn't you be able to put the power down earlier if you weren't drifting because the rear wheels would have traction? I mean you might have slightly higher corner entry speeds if you drift, but I think it's quicker to not drift, in general anyway. If drifting were quicker I think F1 drivers would be doing it during qualifying.
Honestly, the stereotype where "Domestics can't corner" has been done ever since the C6 Corvette came about. They're great handling cars... That's why they're all over the track.
Dori dori took him to school. Love miroshi and best motoring. He is my sons favorite driver of may car or racing type. So I’m tune and balance with the car he handles the touge like it was built by him for him
it has brakes dont get me wrong but you dont need abs for braking in corners all you have to do is shift down when you enter and shift back up when you exit the footbraking technique he use is just to slowhis car down when he is entering a corner
what the hell do you guys expect that is keiichi tsuchiya the drift kings. this is the guys that practicly invented drifting and brought it to the professional race world. plus it doesnt matter how fast the car is. it mattes whose driving it.
86 is a car made for tight turns. it's light weight and balanced suspension gives it a better edge on roads with a lot of corners. the GTr has more understeer and is a heavier car which slows down it's rev if the engine isn't powerful enough.
@jokke202 taniguchi is crazy in the ae86 as well u should look him up he has a video from a long time ago of him in the hiroshima mountains tearing it up in a hachiroku he is a very fast agressive driver and drifter you can see that he learned his skills from tsuchiya and mad a style of his own
