Having test drove both of these vehicles a few times, not just watching videos, we bought the Hrv. The new Hrv styling inside and out is class leading as well as quality of materials used.

The Corolla before the H RV. Pricing on the Honda is ridiculous. They give you less but they charge you more.

I tried both, the Honda hrv was smoother to drive and less bouncy. That’s just my preference. Though the features they had for the back is better. I don’t mind it though because I can always add little gadgets to the back

Its almost like Honda doesn’t really want to complete in this category. I’m a big fan of Honda, but you’d have to be insane not to appreciate Toyota’s value. Honda appears to competing against itself (CR-V). The Corolla Cross is going to be an absolute hit. Style and reliability? Check, and check. And then add the price difference… now you’ll have the best selling vehicle in Toyota’s lineup. I know two people who were cross shopping the Toyota against the Subaru Crosstrek. Toyota is listening to their clients, while Honda is missing this opportunity. Thanks for another comparison video.

Corolla Cross wins hands down with pricing and giving you more with rear ac vents and higher hp. I recently test drove one and found it quite pleasing to drive around the block (twice). Didn't get to go on the highway though. When I got back I jumped to the rear seats and found alot of room behind driver seat. I was really surprised as I thought it would be tight with my set driving position and I am 5'6. It has alot more than my Mazda3 sedan for sure. I will be ordering the hybrid later this year. If the HRV wants to compete, drop in the 1.5T and add in the air vents the China ZRV has(same car) with current pricing.

I still would go with the 2.0 naturally aspirated, over the 1.5 turbo engine. Non turbo more reliable on the long run, than a small engine with turbo. Turbos in gas powered engines tend to not be reliable as it ages.

Brilliant review and so in line with what consumers care about: price, fuel consumption and benefits for your dollar. Unfortunately for Honda they are losing on all these criteria, and that’s not even including the Koreans.

Really bummed about how big the HR-V has gotten & the lack of a hybrid. It seems like there would be a huge market for subcompact hybrid suvs but they're so hard to find. I'm not sure about the Cross though either. At some point the entire fromt end of Toyotas is going to be a grill! But having ah hybrid option would definitely put it over the top for me.

The solution for Honda is simple: put in the L15C 175 bhp (130.5 kW) turbocharged engine, essentially a slightly derated version of the L15B found on the Honda Civic models. It may lose a little fuel economy but make up for it in way better acceleration.
@ChrisBrown-pz2gu
@ChrisBrown-pz2gu 11 месяцев назад
@Sacto1654 it would actually get better fuel economy, and be quicker. My FiL has a previous gen Cr-v with the 1.5, and it gets much better gas mileage than my 9th gen Civic with the 1.8

What an interesting video !!! From my point of view, I am more a Honda fan than Toyota's because it is more fun to drive. But Honda Canada is practicing a strange price range for its recent cars : an HRV that costs too much compared to the competition and same for Civic Hatchback over a Civic Sedan. Also, to me the look of the HRV is dated as the engine that has been borrowed from an old Civic generation. Honda is pushing its luck too much !!! Fans like me are begining to look at other brands.

Btw. I had a Tesla Model S (75 Dual) this weekend. It had it’s highlights, but for the price I’d prefer anything else from Germany (or any other European country) for a much more resplendent experience. Tesla has yet to deliver any vehicles (in my opinion) with a sense of passion.

I am a huge Acura/Honda fan, but in this case, I just don’t understand Honda thinking on asking for a more premium price but not giving us a more upscale product for the money. Also, why couldn’t Honda have put the 1.5T motor in the hrv? They could have detuned it to differentiate it from Civic and CRV models, say maybe 165 horses for hrv. This would be closer to the Toyota Cross’ 169 horsepower. Come on Honda, you can do much better for your customers.

I am very interested in comparing their crash test scores. Supposedly, Honda made a big effort to improve the HRV’s safety, which is part of the reason for its high cost. But I’ll have to see the official crash test scores and videos. I am looking to get a compact SUV as a second, small family vehicle, and both the HRV and Corolla Cross are on my radar. But, as a small family vehicle, safety and space are important for me. In this regard the new HRV is interesting, though its cargo capacity is a bit on the low side.
@sammyt3514
@sammyt3514 2 года назад
I don't find a single reason to buy the HRV over the Corolla Cross, especially if the price is factored in. I like everything better on the Cross, including the interior design, though the HRV seems to have better materials. And while neither is exactly a beauty queen, the exterior design of the Cross is much more appealing to me, especially the front end (whoever design the front end of the HRV needs to find another job, and pay royalties to the designer of the Ford Escape). Having said that, the upcoming Cross Hybrid will probably steal every other subcompact SUV's lunch; Toyota won't be able to keep any of them in their showrooms, provided they even get to the showrooms (they'll probably be pre-purchased for years in advance!)

Got the HRV. The K20 engine is so reliable (even tho the corolla engine is too) and best of all, they are available. Toyota's dealership can't stock any cars except for BRZ4. HRV's handling is insanely good and that look is going to be timeless. But even that said, going for a corolla cross is equaly a good choice if you don't need it before a couple weeks or even months. In Quebec the new hybrids have 1y waiting list which is straight up ridiculous.

The optional hybrid Corolla Cross will make sure, there will be a lengthy waiting list, for years to come. Both base engines are unremarkable but enough for most buyers. Just ordered a HRV EXL in Black with black interior for my son. The missing back seat arm rest and cup holders is a stupid decision by Honda. Someone there needs a smack on the head. The bottom line for me for Toyota was ... it is ugly in the front and the interior styling is from 2015. But even more important is the fact that Honda HRV Sport and higher are Safety Pick Plus and best ratings in crash tests. My son is in there as a new driver. That matters most. The EXL trim in Honda gave all the tech safety assist features including slow speed front and back braking assist as well as parking sensors which are not in the Sport trim. But Sport trim otherwise has everything else in safety tech.

Both are nice cars, I'm currently driving a 2015 Toyota Highlander. What the hell is going on with Honda pricing? I just built both these vehicles on their sites and the Honda would cost with taxes $5,000 more than the Toyota. Just right there with the Toyota is number one in my books.

I limited my choice to Corolla Cross, HR-V and Rogue Sport. Guess, now it's Toyota vs Nissan )

Anyone knows when will the Toyota Cross 2023 be released? I'm struggling between the 2023 HRV and 2022 Corss...Should I wait for the 2023 Totota Cross or not?

I prefer the HRV. The gas mileage is worse because it doesn't have direct injection, which you don't want anyway for reliability reasons. I've looked very closely at the HRV and Cross, and all of the trims. The HRV Sport is the one to go for. You get remote start that is meant to be known and built to work at a distance unlike the newer Toyota fob, the Honda fob on that trim auto senses you, and you get heated front seats. It looks a lot better inside (and outside) too. I've driven both. Toss in that 2L Honda engine which is probably the most reliable engine on the market today, and you have a winner. In the US if you find an MSRP dealer you can get it plated and OTD on the road for just under 30. Best deal on the market in my opinion.

Why were the safety features not mentioned? I’m considering these 2 vehicles and their safety features are important to me. What gives??

For years my families owned both Toyota and Honda. After 2017 CR-V EX-L, it's time to choose a replacement for my aging parents. Only one thing between these 2 amazing below USD$30,000 CUV is the rear auto tail gate that sets the final decision. We're going for the Toyota Corolla Cross XLE this time, not because it's cheaper with a auto tail gate, but also the IIHS top safety pick + rating.

They’re both terrible and regrettable choices. Get a Mazda CX-30 instead, it’s a far better car.

I wouldn't buy either of these unless it was a hybrid, this close to full electrification. I prefer the Hybrid version from Toyota Cross, because of their extreme experience with Hybrids. I would enjoy Honda's superior crisp handling. Toyota's history with Hybrid technology is stellar. And this being a utility car, a base hybrid unit works for me. Toyota would be my pick of these two. By the way, what are the uniquely identifiable features that make a European Styled Car?🤔

I, too, love Honda. However, I don't think the HRV even compares to the Corolla Cross.

I bet both companies are leaving some stuff off the table to get us to upgrade to the next bigger SUV. Toyota has a slight reliability edge to Honda too

Given the multi year development cycles for cars, it does make you wonder if there is collusion or espionage such that the Honda "Civic Cross' comes out so soon after the Corolla Cross and is head to head. I give the edge to the Cross - dynamic force engine is more powerful and efficient, direct shift cvt, simple proven AWD, little lower cost. Both are good though, brand loyalty will be the difference for buyers. Yeah, could use more power and be quieter. The hybrid versions could be significant in that regard.

I checked out the latest HRV here in Australia and I ran out of the showroom. It has the magic rear seats. 4 person seating. Incredible 5.8 l/100k consumption and the kicker... A 1.5 litre engine. No other options. What???? Build date is May 2022.

While I understand, chassis/platforms have to be shared across the lineup, in order to keep costs down. I am not liking that the HR-V has the same front end, as the niche Civic Type R(With just a little more slanting in the way of headlights).

The amount of plastic on the front end of the Toyo alone is enough to make me run the other way. Looks cheap.

We went with the Corolla Cross and the VW Taos. We've had them now for 7 months and both have been solid rides. The Taos is way better on the gas tho. 🚙
