how to change the engine air filter and cabin air filter in a modern toyota corolla. this can be done without tool and should be done together every 30,000 miles. newageproducts.pxf.io/LXy2j0 #toyota #corolla #airfilter
I got my car inspected and they wanted to replace the air filter for $38.74 (including tax). With the help of your video it only cost me $12.43. Great video, thanks!
Thank you so much for showing me how to correctly install both air filters on my husband's 2012 Toyota corrola. I took his car to Jiffy Lube for an oil change the other day. The tech guy first came out to see what I needed. I told him an oil change, and at first he said the charge would be $97.13 for synthetic oil! I was shocked at the charge. I called husband at this point and The tech said that they had to put synthetic oil back in it because Toyota required it. Y'all, I gave him my best BS look, and I asked him would changing the type of oil damage the engine, and he said it wouldn't. That regular oil change was $54.99, so I said okay. Well, anybody reading this diatribe knows that Jiffy Lube always attempts to upsell another service, and this JL was no exception. The guy came in and showed me both air filters and suggested that both needed to be changed. OK, what would that cost us, and the engine air filter charge would be $38.99 and the cabin air filter would cost $59.99! Don't forget the oil change cost of $54.99 too. Rounded off the total would come to about $155 before taxes. I called my husband again, and I gave him the choice of paying JL to do both, or me going to Amazon and ordering the 2 air filters for his piecemeal vehicle and putting both in ourselves. The Amazon price for both filters came to $22.69, and we are waiting on the cabin air filter to get here on Monday. Once it arrives, after watching this video I will be very capable of installing both filters and I will have saved us approximately $133.00!! Darlin Man will be quite happy about that! Of course, he will be downstairs with me watching what this video said to do and learning how to do this for the next time. I'm just really grateful that my dad and my brother showed me how to change the oil and oil filter, how to put a tune up on my own car, how to change a flat tire, and how to check all of my necessary fluid levels if necessary. All of those lessons made me feel more confident about auto maintenance and they also taught me how to know if a mechanic was trying to get one over on me because I'm a female. Good luck with that!!
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!! You did an absolutely terrific job of explaining this procedure. Your video was clear, concise & made a scary job for us simple, easy & cost effective. We give you a ten star rating plus a LOT of gratitude.
I often ride with my dogs in the backseat. The engine air filter was literally 2 snaps of the cover and the cabin filter was filled with dog dander and some furs. This video was so easy to follow that I feel accomplished AND saved myself a meal or two! I bought my filters on Amazon and the filters sat in the mfr box for a good 3 months until now. Thank you for uploading this video!
I can't tell you how much I appreciate this video! I was in the parking lot of an O'Reilly's trying to figure this out and getting desperate. Thank you!
This was so helpful. I kinda had trouble putting back the glove compartment but thanks to your video u showed exactly how to do it and I didn’t realize there was latches in the back that I wasn’t latching on 😅😅
Thanks a lot for the video. We just bought an used Toyota Auris (Corolla) with a turbo engine in an extremely good condition. The last service (after the guarantee period was over) was done in a non Toyota Garage by the previous owner six months ago and being suspicious (the oil on the dip stick was way too black) I decided to change the engine oil and oil filter. After having done that I checked the engine air filter and realised that the cover fit was wrong because the lip that you showed in the video was pointing at the wrong corner. Pulled it out and re seated it properly. Thanks again.
Excellent video. The simple point many other people DONT point out is the correct position the Air filter goes in. Rounded corners on the far outside .I didnt pay attention when i pulled the filter out and couldnt find any video that pointed this out. And YES you can put this in wrong.Thank you
Thank you! I replaced both for $48 total. I probably could have gotten it cheaper but I chose the slightly more expensive parts but still way cheaper than taking it to a shop.
Thank you sir! I just had my air filter changed and found a nest……a frickin NEST! I had them do it. It was worth the $25 bucks but I’ll be doing it myself from now on.
I'm slowly trying to maintenance my own car as much possible. I already knew how to change the cabin filter so when they tried to sell this to me at the dealer I said no cuz I knew it could be just as easy as the cabin. Glad I saved myself $40. I'm trying to find the balance between being able to do it myself (topping the fluids, changing the oil, cleaning the filters) and taking it in (engine, brakes..).
I don’t blame you maintenance is a complete rip off on modern cars. With the advent of RU-vid it’s pretty easy to figure out how to do basic maintenance and even that could save you a lot of money.
@@EnthusiastsGarage for sure! Worst off, I'm super easy on my car. 2016 and it has 26000mi. 😶 so I know some of the stuff I've gotten weren't yet necessary. A learning process.
Excellent video. The details were fantastic. Nothing left to the imagination. Thank you very much. The cabin air filter by Toyota has the arrow facing up. But… purolator show the airflow down. So I think it depends on the brand?
Thanks so much for the clear and specific instructions. Quick question: when I installed my engine air filter, a little part of the filter was exposed near the hinges. I can’t seem to finagle it to cover the entire area and still clip the cover back on. Is that okay or does it need to cover the entire filter? Thanks again for the video!
Thank you very much for your video!! Not only did I save money(about $200 from a Toyota dealer for both cabin & engine), but I learned something new(ENGINE FILTER)! After getting the job done, I felt super accomplished. It honestly feels great to not have to depend on a dealer and I can't stop smiling LOL! I REALLY APPRECIATE YOUR HELP!
What is the plastic wire u removed to take out the filter and then put it back to the plastic thingy. My wiring thing seems to be punctured a lil by the plastic thing. Might wanna replace but don’t know the name of it
Question -- does it say "UP" next to the arrow on the new filter like it does on the old one? If not have you read any instructions that may have been included with the new filter? Sometimes arrows indicate which side goes up but some manufacturers use it to indicate air flow direction in which case the arrow would point down.
Exactly right. Purolator the arrow goes DOWN because that is the direction of the airflow. It’s pulling the air from the outside. So it filters the air before it hits the blower unit to prevent dirt from infiltrating the cabin.
