The strength and deformability of the car body is only one point of view, another thing is the possibility of opening the doors after an accident, but the most important point of view is the risk of injury to passengers in the car. Why is the impact on the dummies not evaluated in the video??

In my opinion, this real car crash test was to show which car has less crumpled zones on their new platform. Cannot be denied, german cars have thick material compared to Japanese cars. Both have their own reason to do such different way. In this test, the new Corolla may got more damaged than the Jetta, but it doesn't mean Corolla has less safety for passenger than Jetta. After crashed, we can see, dummy passenger in both car actually in good condition and all safety equipments worked as it should. Keep in mind, most of people buy a car based on reliability and safety, also many other aspects to be considered. German cars may more expensive and have thicker material than Japanese cars, but they are not always better, especially in term of reliability, durability and long term usage. Remember one for sure, Japanese car manufacturers always built their cars to fit the market, circumstances and demographic of a country or region.

The video is pointless! It makes no mention of the condition of the dummys post-crash. How the car looks like after the crash is totally irrelevant, the forces that the dummys endured is what matters.

Jetta is awesome I never liked 4 cylinder car's but the Jetta with the turbo performs awesome great features and not expensive

I would prefer that the forces and overloads that the passengers are subjected to at the time of the collision were measured because it may turn out that the car that is more badly wrecked absorbs much more of the energy of the collision than the one with less damage and thus less forces acted on people.

The most important aspect of the crash which the video hasn't touched on at all is the impact on the test dummies. That is what determines survivability after a crash; I couldn't care less if my car is more deformed than another car after a crash as long as that means the energy of the impact has been absorbed before it reaches me which increases the chances of me surviving the crash. That's why the Corolla has received the highest ratings from the IIHS as shown in the video.

Video looks Chinese. Cars are designed differently for that market so results likely not applicable in other major markets.

Looks like the survival ability is the same in both vehicles. As a crash at that speed is a write-off I would be more interested in a low speed fender bender type crash or how they hold up in a roll over.

So get the stiffest platform so that it does more damage to the other car relative to your own

For Milage Japanese,korean. For Safety American, European. I am more concern about safety. in india Tata makes the Best safe Cars , proven Globally. And from last 3 years , Safe cars have beaten milage cars in sales positively.

Question: Where were these 2 cars made? China made cars are different from the rest of the world and their materials/strength varies a lot even under the same brand name/model name. A lot of YT channels from China bashes Toyota cars having thin/weak structures while their western world/Japan made models are much better in build quality. Meaning the same Toyota Corolla made in China would have very different quality compared with US/Canada/Japan built cars. Be careful with these shady comparison which may be misleading to the general public.

But price-wise are those two cars the same? Germans cars are more expansive than Japanese brands and so you get what you paying for.

I prefer Toyota. I drive in the Netherlands, There is always traffic. It's almost impossible to crash at this speed. :-)

No mention of the force on the dummies? There's a chance the Toyota would win! Besides, the Toyota will still run when the VW is long recycled after it spent much time in the workshop. VW's are melting in the sun. I had a Passat GLX-V6. Worst car I ever had. Leaking water into trunk and sunroof. Oil leaks at the cylinder head. Heated seat elements burned thru the leather. Headlight bulbs needed changing every couple of month. Cracked plastic covers in doors and dashboard. Transmission failure.... Volkswagen ranks down in the reliability list. Their new Atlas is another big failure!

The jetty is the size of Camry not corrola and heavier than the corrola. So the test is not comparable.

The Jetta is one of the largest cars in the class, and the Corolla is one of the smallest. I’d say…this is a simple matter of physics at work.

Both of those cars are irreparable, so damage is irrelevant. Crash safety = occupant protection, no mention of that. Very subjective result

Toyota focuses on longevity, whereas the german cars on solidness. Toyota cars can outlive any cars on the planet no problem

This test is absolutely stupid and useless due to N number of reasons. Nevertheless there is a reason that VM is dying slow death due to poor manufacturing quality, low quality manufactured mechanical components and very high failure rates.

I test all my cars like this out in the road by my house. I have had to buy quite a lot of cars and rarely leave the street
