I just brought a 2021 Toyota fortuner gxl and i am EXTREMELY impressed we LOVE it. I got it from Brisbane and drove it back up home to cairns and it was incredible, very very smooth ride and I can’t wait to take it off road
@@Suroyfamilia it was going to cost us $63000 with out any add ons for our car ie, bull bar, side steps, roof racks, heave duty boot mat, tow ball here in cairns. But we got it for $59800 in Brisbane with all the add ons 👌🏾
Hows the speakers in it? I bought crusade model last month in townsville and the only thing i dont like is bac k speakers other than that its mind blowing car
Don't know about rest of the world. But in my country ,India Toyota Fortuner is an status symbol for rich & wealthy peoples. This suv is famous between politicians here & spl. The white colour one. Toyota has record sale of this model in india. Anyways good video. Stay safe .
@@christyjoby2506 Yes. Sir/Maam. I do agree. As we also have Toyota Innova and done almost 3,50,000 km. Still runs smooth no engine problem in Toyota cars. Fortuner is still dream car for lots of peoples here.
I actually like the sweeping line towards the rear end of the car. Great for off-roading and towing with its high ground clearance. I don’t mind the firm ride at all. Spacious, good looking, great engine, safety features, etc. This SUV can actually go real off road where others like Sorento can’t! They are called SUVs but their ground clearance is minimal. It’s a great allrounder. Not popular therefore you won’t see too many on the road ad nausea. With a bull bar and roof rack and tow bar it becomes a great touring vehicle!
The whole point of the Fortuner is to be tough and not another mazda soft roader, all proper 4x4 has a ladder frame dont complain if the vehicle is not for your purpose, people who needs a tough suv 7 seater this is for you, not for city slicker who needs a pansy soft car
WRONG!!! prado and lc200 are both LADDER CHASIS too, and they are NOT stiff! the fortuner counterparts have made their way to have better suspension but STILL LADDER FRAME especially pajero sport! just accept the fact that fortuner has the least love from toyota (decades have past and they still havent improved the suspension for the love of gods)
@@sidharthkapoor309 Cause cars cost the most in India than anywhere whoever can afford an endeavor (Everest ) or Fortuner in India can afford a Mercedes in the US or other countries
With No MUX and Pajero sport available in my country (Pakistan) Fortuner is definitely the sole player in the market and it does exceptionally well here. So much so that slightly used cars are sold at a higher than brand new car’s price because there is months of waiting on new ones ! The top spec fortuner is 15000 USD more then the top spec Hilux.
The Fortuner has always been a great car, i just don't understand how you guys keep complaining about the 3rd row Seats... I just removed mine completely, then they aren't in the way and you almost never need them in any case. Its a really good vehicle for touring. I try to take mine out every weekend when i can! :)
Agree. I took the 3rd row seats out of my 2001 Prado 3 years ago to cart a big boxy load. They haven't been back. Saves 40kg and better visibility. Of course, will have to put them back in when I ever sell it to be compliant.
Before I would consider the Fortuner I need to know if Toyota has properly sorted out the DPF problem which has plagued their diesels for years.I have read that the Pajero Sport diesel has no such problem so no matter how good Fortuner may be in other respects,Pajero Sport is at the top of my list, until such time it is clear that Toyota has resolved the DPF issue.I have read a lot about it recently and I remain unconvinced that it has been.I hope someone can persuade me differently.
@@jackoutback1605 Haha Even know what Simp means? Im married so no need to get girls attention infact I just want to be out on the tracks watching every other suv based 4x4 falling apart or getting stuck
Hello, I'm looking for a all rounder and we don't need 7 seats. I'm retiring and to enjoy what Australia has to offer. A towing and touring, as well as city/country driving. Thank you for your time, Joe.
These are very popular in SE Asia (Vietnam/Thailand) as they are ideal during monsoon season when the roads get flooded due to poor infrastructure. High ground clearance etc.
@@realVicTorres02 i am only familiar with the VN market and these Fortuners are easily the most popular car on the roads there. Plus its smaller sibling - the Innova - which i think is built on the same platform.
@@hmt8701 The Fortuner, Innova and Hilux share the same chassis and they are part of the IMV program of Toyota. Basically here in the Philippines, the Fortuner is the best selling SUV while the Innova and Hilux are the best selling MPV and pickup respectively last year. The PH and VN roads are very similar though.
Great review. Good to see you drive around the high rise carpark in the real world where most of them will spend 80% of their time. The Gxl may not be the best value proposition in my opinion.
Now, your prices are $AUD, not $USD? I presume so with your Australian accents and right hand drive cars! I drive an older Ford Everest, but will consider the Fortuner for my next purchase here in Thailand! Glad I came across your review! Gday mate!
@David Squibular I have ko2s on my Fortuner 275 65 18s Yes they slip a bit but just put it into eco mode. But on the dry road it handles great. But I do have bilstien and King springs on too
Yes I went to car shop and come across this..you certainly have given me something to think about. What I would like to know which suv 4wd would be your choice against other brands
I live in Thailand where the Toyota Hilux and Toyota Fortuner are manufactured for the Australian market. I only need 4 seats; maybe 5 seats so 7 seats is not necessary. There is a massive difference in priice between the Hilux and Fortuner so it makes sense to buy the Hilux and keep luggage in plastic boxes or even a caddy for carrying things.
Tossing up between a Fortuner and Prado. Hopefully the Tuner is a good tow vehicle as I will be towing a mid size caravan on the big lap. I am leaning towards the Tuner as it seems to be more of a tuff vehicle than the prado and much less price. Plenty of time as I need to order and wait wait wait for delivery.
definitely, there's some 600-800$ suspension upgrades in my country that make the fortuner ride softly, although at the expense of cornering speed since its gonna be wallowy
One thing I found that was left out is ground clearance. What is the ground clearance and entry exit angles. Sorry if this was asked already there were a lot of comments
Of course it isn't as smooth, is a ute frame. It's mean to be tougher. I looked at this and other similar SUVs and several utes and settled on the Hilux which has better room. I'm also tall and love the ride position and steering.
The Fortuner looks better and more powerful now compared to the pre-updated model. Luckily it didn't recieved a sunroof as it would increase the weight of the vehicle and considering it is a heavy vehicle.
Thanks again Richard for a very entertaining review , as you always do . As a Toyota lover, I am looking at trading my old Lexus 250 for a Hilux/Fortuna . In your opinion, and I do not have a young family , which would you choose as a daily driver/ get away all rounder ? :)
That is not from the same the same company that launched and produced the Ford FG Falcon’ only the Ford Everest is from the same company that launched and produced the Ford FG Falcon.
I think you have imported this car from india or other country because driving staring is on the right side nd in western countries staring is on left side??
Im just pissed it took 5 yrs to come too par with the others. 2019 Crusade here and no tech up too par at all. Needs ventilation seats in qld. Heated seats are useless
Actually the side view of the rear ⅓ of the car looks the best part of it. But yeah those fold up 3rd row Toyota seats - awful. And did you say the GX Doesn’t have climate control?? What? Unhelpful if you want a petrol engine. So many manufacturers are only offering diesel. Should always be at least 1 diesel and 1 petrol option in vehicles like this. But can you drive it all day on all terrain in 4WD like the Pajero Sport or a Land Rover??”
Yes, the rear seats can be removed, but not easily. There are some RU-vid videos that show how. A much better idea would have been if Toyota offered them as a option as per Mitsubishi and the Pajero Sport.
The only downside to a Fortuner is the rear extra seats, and the rigid suspension. I would pick it any day over any other toyota out there. A tough, nice, reliable SUV. I rate it 90/10
Tight race between this and Pajero Sport. We need these for space for beach and kayak gear more than off-road and don’t like the utes for their tighter rear seats and constrained cabin space. Much closer comparison to a PS now that the Fortuner has Apple car play. I like the additional power, but where is the hybrid? Sliding rear seat are great too. I don’t like the 10k service intervals.
Rawkus919 I’m pretty sure it is. I would recommend to look for ssang yong it’s also proper 4x4 but gives you more for less. It’s also 7yr unlimited warranty
@@HeKuTK0 Sorento looks great, and heaps of options and quality, but doesnt have low range any more. It competes with Kluger and Sante Fe in my book. Fortuner is Pajero Sport and MUX territory.
Great review I have a 2017 GXL Fortuner and love it. It is more expensive that the MUX or Pajero Sport but nothing g beats a Toyota for reliability and resale value. The Fortuner is a brilliant car. I have actually just ordered a new fortuner Crusade due for delivery mid October and the trade in on the 2017 was fantastic
Base model means less features, no push start, no climate control, no power tailgate, etc... It is fine if the base model still uses the old traditional key.
Was going to buy one because a wagon hilux was perfect but the deal breaker was the third row seats; they are a nuisance. Can’t believe they didn’t provide a 5 seat option. Didn’t want the hassle to take them out and risk compliance plus have to store them and for 10 years or so. Ah well.
There's a good reason the Fortuner has been such a hit on the sales charts - it's at the bottom of the hit parade. Look elsewhere. Most other buyers certainly do.
