alot of the hidden. things about the highlander that once you know you will love. also compare between the previous items and the current ones to know what's best for you.
I love the back glass opening. Great if you need to haul a longer item like pipe or trim. Faster lift gate is an improvement. I love my 2017 XLE SE. Still prefer that body style and mine has the backed out front grill. Thanks for the video.
Great video i didn't know about the backup camera being able to wash itself. One thing I found out through another channel (car care nut) is that the key fob has a automatic start feature by pressing the lock button 3 times but on the third time you must keep holding for several seconds and the car turns on
that is the remote start or remote connect. if it is new enough and you have remote start you may be able to use the app to start your car from your phone, lock it, unlock it check status and more
I just bought a used 2017(still under warranty at 40k mi!) Highlander XLE and it's got the autostart on the fob. I had no idea there'd be an app, but should've probably figured lol I'm gonna look now! Also- I popped the trunk and had the spot but found they didn't have the actual cover in there 😞 Bummer! However! I have a 1yr old son and the windows have BUILT IN SHADE COVERS(OMG?!?!?!) no complaints!
At 5:42, in my Australian 2008 2nd edition Kluger (Highlander) an open back glass shows on the dash in exactly the same way as open doors or tailgate. Can't miss it. We're about to upgrade to a Kluger Grande 4th edition and as you said, that opening back glass is one of the things I'll miss most. It's so handy to get leads on dogs before opening the tailgate. I won't miss the slow, beep, beep, beep opening/closing of the tailgate. People nearby look around, mistaking it for a reversing truck.
Love your videos, you always have so much information on them...I have a question, I just bought a used 2018 highlander and I will like to know if they normally come with rubber mats from manufacturer on the third row, because mine does not have any.
mats are an option. used ones are hit or miss. sometimes the mats are wore out so they get discarded and some dealers add new ones back while others dont. your dealer should have some mat options for you or you can search online for some
Hey Steve, thanks for another great video. I'm always learning a little something that I didn't know about my Highlander. The only thing I thought of for anyone looking at the Highlander, is the difference in the front, back trim of the XSE, versus all of the other models. You had two Highlanders backed in the showed the different grills. The White one XSE showed the dual exhaust tips. I have the XSE and enjoy showing the new trim to my friends. You are right about resale value. I sold my 2016 Highlander to get this 2021 and it was the best price I've ever gotten on any of my previous cars. Keep up the great videos!
i appreciate that response. you aee correct woth the grill differance. i was trying not to get too far into trim level differences as i have the TTLS Toyota trim level series where i show the trim level differences. i was trying to stay more with features that went more in general and in more of the overview type of a video
The rear camera washer is also present on the Sienna with the Digital Review Mirror if I'm not mistaken. Your videos have helped me with my decision on a new Sienna.
actually i have just confirmed that you are partially correct and you have taught me something. the limited and the platinum siennas have the backup cam washer but it has nothing to do with the digital rear view mirror
Hi Steven, Thx for all the info, very nice to watch... I own a 2019 Highlander Limited (I'm from Canada, if it makes a difference). I love my highlander but before I bought it I tried a 2019 Lexus R350 and what i found was the seats in the Lexus had more of a bolstering front seats to compare to the highlander front seats. The seats in the highlander are comfortable but i would love a little me bolstering and since you are very knowledgeable on the highlander model, would there be a model in the Toyota line up or Lexus that would be compatible (plug ins & railing) to be switched? Any help would be appreciated. Keep up the great videos.
I have a new 2024 Highlander Platinum. Can you program thr driver’s seat to move back when you turn the car off? And have it return to the memory position for driving?
Always wondered, why does the Highlander have a 4WD badge vs. an AWD badge? Not sure if this is still true on the latest generation. I’m looking at a 2013 and it does have a 4WD badge. Great video! One more thing, I’m told the 2013 V6 AWD models come standard with the Tow Prep Package. Are you knowledge about that?
Steve, I have just purchased a pre-owned low mileage Highlander. I am trying to get the entune suite to make everything work, take out previous owners address etc. Have you made any videos on this.. Sure hope so. Thanks Pat
Purchased a 2023 Highlander platinum all wheel drive with a four-cylinder turbo. Extremely fast definitely amazing good job in Toyota and great video.!
Thank you for your excellent and informative videos. I absolutely love the Highlander. I had a 2002, gave it to my son in 2016. I have leased a 2016 and 2018. I will soon turn in the 2018 and upgrade to 2021 or 2022. I love the XLE, but I want 360 birds eye view and intuitive park assist on the next Highlander. Is that available on XLE?
No you need a limited or platinum. The platinum is standard with it to get it with the limited you need to have the 12.3 in screen which is code SB if asking a dealer.
Steven great list you put together! For us, for me a 2020 Toyota Highlander Platinum. Love it! Question pleases, why is’t that u can’t open the back gate with the power on? While running I tried opening back gate and it wouldn’t open? Any ideas or why this is. Thank you
@@mwheeler22 perfect. Check out my next upload of the day you will learn something almost no one knows about the highlander. It should be up within the hour
You asked Steven specifically, but I want to give my input. The awd isn't much more expensive, and you can never have too much traction. I live in the country and when it rains, there plenty of slick stuff, but even in the city, wet roads can get slick!
Steven i have a highlander from 2016, i need the chasis number but i dont know where to find the chassis nummer it would be very nice if someone can help me with that.
Remote start. Just got my silver xse with the red interior. Push the lock button 3 times and hold in the 3rd until it starts. Not sure if i missed it or it got mentioned. Good vid!
I’ve had my 2021 Highlander for 10 days now and ended up with a problem with the contour of the drivers seat base. In a very short time I began having lower back pain resulting from the shape of the seat base. The lumbar support adjustment was no help. I experimented with different shaped pieces of high density foam, placed at the very rearward part of the seat base and that gave my pelvis the support it needed to be positioned at the correct angle. Problem solved. My previous Toyota was a 4RUNNER which did not have that problem.
Would you know how to remove previous owner profile from the multimedia account/Toyota account!? He locked it and I can’t remove him without pass and there is no way to contact him!
Just so you know, you can unlock all doors on a 2014 to 2019 highlander limited when you place your hand behind the drivers door handle. You just have to select the option in the infotainment screen.
Hi Steve, I purchased A 2021 Highlander in November. I love the vehicle except for one problem, I keep getting a entune download error message. I brought it to the dealer and they reloaded the software. Drove it down the road and the problem was back again. Any thoughts on how to solve this problem?
It’s on the head unit. The message is download error, some Entune App sweet functions may not work as expected. Please reinstate the download process. (I’ve done this several times but no luck)
I had trouble with my Entune app also. I solved my problem by doing too things: I had to create an Amazon account first. The second thing I learned was, I had to launch the Toyota Alex app on my iPhone and have it showing on my phone BEFORE I started the Highlander. Then I would press the apps icon on the screen and then press the Alexa icon if it was already glowing Blue. If I did thus, everything worked perfectly. I could not find such instructions in any in the Toyota Owners books.
Got my wife one of these. Love everything about it, however the LED headlights are kind of a problem. If we go for a 30 minute trip at night, there will be at least 5 cars that blast their brights at you because they think you have yours on.... they are that bright, which is nice, but being blinded by oncoming traffic every 5 minutes gets old quick
@@stevenwelchtoyota I've debated it, however where the light line is, it would seem dumb to have it any lower... you would only see like 5 feet in front of you. Take one out for a spin at night, somewhere other than city streets. See if you get the same reaction. I'll bet you do.
Hi, I have 2020 Hybrid Highlander XLE My dashboard keep showing me total MPG 21MPG since day one out of the dealership. I know Toyota advertised 35 MPG city and Highway . How I can change the setting to show me the 35MPG?
My 2020 has uncontrollable acceleration when I'm slowing done below 16 mph. The advisory screen says throttle and transmission problem see dealer. This actually pushed me thru 4 stop signs and 2 red lights. Toyota and the dealers said they can't duplicate . Until someone gets hurt or killed they'll ignore this. I've met 6 people from the west to the east. Two told me the dealer discovered Faulty electronics acceleration modules. Also the cross traffic and blind spot monitors also goes out in wet and cold weather temperatures below 30 degrees. Just a heads up on this. They actually told me that I must have had my gas cap off, my vehicle was involved in a accident. I'm a retired lawman of 22 years and I didn't have a accident or left my cap off etc. Total bull hockey.
My 2016 XLE is now 6 years old. 55,000 miles and in mint condition. I am needing a hitch. Got a quote from Toyota for $1,000 and from UHaul for $500. Any thoughts?
You stated you can get the bench on the Platinum but I've called several dealerships and they tell me only the limited do you have the choice for a bench or Capt Chairs. Platinum you can only get the Capt chairs they won't do a bench seat on Platinum. Is this still true?
@@RaguO Steve is right the XLe is the trim to go for sort of the sweet spot. Full disclosure we went to a Toyota dealer and my wife sat in the platinum so guess what trim is in our driveway LOL
Nice video. How come Toyota does not have a factory trailer brake controller? Afraid to wire one up with all the computer crap on the car. Looking for a plug in one that i can just plug into a factory outlet somewhere?
@@richardcasey7521 You can do it manually by pushing the button to raise the hatch and pushing it again to stop it at the height you want and then push and hold it until it beeps 4 times, then it is set. You can also pick one of 5 settings in your dashboard setup program. Go to setup then scroll along until you find the hatch opening settings and pick the one that might suit you needs, test and if not pick another one until you get what you are looking for height wise.
Need to bring back the back glass hatch. It showed it was open on your screen where the doors were open. Toyota needs to listen to the customers it was handy. Was getting ready to trade and found out this has been taken away. Not trading now!
It's not available yet to anything that is not the new Toyota Crown but should be updated to the other remote connect enabled toyotas in the near future
@@stevenwelchtoyota this is for a 2017 Highlander. You had a video on how to do this last night on you tube but it disappeared. Maybe I'm mistaken. Thanks for the great videos. I've learned a lot.
I have had my brand new 2022 Toyota Highlander XLE for a few months and the seats are so uncomfortable that I have back pain . I’m used to driving Volvo and Saab which had the most comfortable car seats ever made. I could drive for hours with no pain in my back or body. I may have to get rid of the car cause of this.
@@stevenwelchtoyota I definitely like the new interior, especially on the high end one. I think its the grill and rounded body. Makes it look more like a soccer mom mobile. haha Maybe they will go back to squared off grill in the next gen. Love mine so can't complain. Toyota makes amazing vehicles.
Found a water leak on my new 2022, wth.. so disappointed . Did not expect this. grey interior was visiblebto see red marking and told mold took place inside. Not happy with toyota manufacturing -indiana??
@@stevenwelchtoyota Hi Steve. I had three problems:. The biggest one was: “Give us a deposit for the one we are getting in 3 weeks and don’t ask why it is an expensive Platinum not the XLE, why it is black not white, and why the seats are light gray - the color you hate. It is what Toyota is shipping to us. Don’t like it? Ha ha ha…. Bye bye” Do I need to mention that there was not a single Vehicle on the floor or in the lot at the dealership? So don’t even dare to ask for price… 2. Second issue, quite big for me: in the tested Highlander (Platinum), I could not get the seat high enough to feel comfortably. I’m not tall, 5-4, but still taller than most Japanese. I could not see the hood at all. Not seeing the edge of the hood makes it super difficult to park, and feels like driving a tank looking thru visors. My Dodge Ram feels way better in this respect despite being way bigger and having standard, non-power seats. The Highlander drivers seet needs extra 1/2 to 1 inch of up travel. The problem is that it does go a bit higher, but at the same time it starts tilting forward. This is not a comfortable position. 3. The third issue I have is the max height of the items one can get into the trunk. The height of items you can fit into Highlander is not a little, but a lot less than those you can fit into RAV4 or other smaller SUVs. Such a large SUV and such limited height to the trunk? For my job I need to carry specialized equipment that is quite tall. I thought it would be a piece o cake to get it into Highlander. What a shocker it was when I tried to get it into this demo vehicle. I’m not sure how I will resolve this problem. PS. I really, really wanted the Highlander hybrid. Was sure that that was it! I still love it, but after this test drive I am depressed. Don’t want to look for another vehicle. The price is high but considering what it offer I guess I would bite the bullet. Yet they are not available unless you buy whatever comes to the dealership. Like it or not.
I’m 5-4 which is not super short, but still Highlandet sucks for me. The seat should have additional 1/2 to 1 inch of up travel to give me nice and comfortable view from the drivers position. My Dodge Ram was waaaay better in this respect. Can’t believe that it was designed by generally short Japanese. And one more thing - the floor of the trunk sits so high that it leaves much less height inside the trunk than my previous Rav4. I really wanted to get the Highlander hybrid, but after a test ride I decided against buying it. It’s only for tall people who short packages. Don’t believe me? Measure what tallest box can get in the Highlander vs Rav4 and other SUVs and let people know.
@@stevenwelchtoyota I don’t understand. Could you elaborate more? What it has to do with providing an extra 1/2 inch of up travel? How would that make it unsafe?
@@stevenwelchtoyota So poor design when looked as a whole system. They may as well designed it for people 6-4 and taller if that made it easy for them. Large percentage of Asian people, and women are not comfortable and in unsafe position in that vehicle because of visibility. Period. This is plain unsafe. Why in my much larger Dodge Ram I do not have this problem? Why in Lexus RX and most other vehicles I don’t have this problem either? Could this be that this is because this model was designed in the USA? They took the easy way? Lastly - the last 1/2 inch of travel up, the seat not only goes up, but also tilts forward at the same time. Nothing you can do about it. This is plain ignorance by design. That makes me lose support under my legs and causes me to slide down. In all - Highlander sucks for medium height and shorter people. And this sloping floor of it’s trunk - sucks. Why could’t they made it flat? Too difficult for them? And the height of the trunk inside is 3 inches less than in the RAV4 and in most other SUVs. I don’t know what kids designed this vehicle. I ain’t buying it.
I'm 6'1" and I wish it went down further. I feel slightly too tall for the SUV. 5'9" is average, below 5'6" you must be used to this problem. That's well below average.
I just got the 2022 XLE and realized no CD player either... :( I also dont like that CarPlay isn't wireless. I dont want to always connect my phone to be able to use the features. That's a major disappointment.
@@stevenwelchtoyota I don’t do anything to make it happen. Every time I start the car and begin driving it shows up after about a minute or two. It doesn’t clear by itself I have to push OK on the head unit screen. It’s done this from the first day I bought the car. The Toyota service department where I bought the car had it for about two hours. As I was leaving that day the service manager asked me if I used Apple CarPlay and I said yes sometimes because I do have an iPhone and basically he told me well just use Apple CarPlay and ignore the message if it happens again. This is not the answer I was hoping for. I tried researching this problem online and basically nobody has anything good to say about Entune. The thought of having to clear this message every time I get in the car for years to come is annoying.
