I love this feature on the toyota 86, its like a sequential gearbox that racers use. Its perfect for my toyota 86 which also has the paddle shifters. The car feels like a complete sports car. Great job Toyota!

I’m 70 years old and discovered this much on my own. Toyota doesn’t say when to use S + or S- , if you should use a brake or accelerate driving on this mode. Nobody , nowhere. Dealer tells you to go to a manual. The manual says how to turn on or off not telling when to use it or with what to use it.

I love Sport Mode, especialy driving through parking lots, and through town, where there is allot of in and out traffic. Takes a little while to get it down, but once you get good at Paddle Shifting you will use it.

The 8-speed AT from Toyota lunges and jerks at a Stop and Go !!! My 2019 Rav4 does it ONLY went coming to a Stop and Go. It's annoying and hopeful NOT a LT premature issue.

If a vehichle is 4WD, and tge gear has M instead of this S. There is no separate lock button for 4WD, then how will 4WD works. I am talking about rav4 g 2008.

I’ve seen some of them over 400,000 miles and going strong. Just change the transmission fluid every 50-60,000 miles.

1st gear for starting 0 mph 2nd gear for rolling 0-10 mph 3rd gear for 10-20mph 4th gear for 20-30mph 5th gear 30+mph These are just estimates Ideally u gotta check the rpm meter and shift when it reaches around 2500 rpm

It should start in the last gear you left that mode if you’re stopped? Or I suppose they could have it that way so no one can shift directly from drive to first at high revs?

Your vehicle has multiple drive (forward) gears within the transmission. In "regular" drive (D), your vehicle will shift gears automatically. However, you may select gears manually if you wish. D1 selects the first gear, D2 selects the second gear, and so forth. Research gear ratios to understand why vehicles have multiple drive (forward) gears. A 5 speed transmission has 5 drive (forward) gears.

Manual transmission is more safer and efficient than an automatic transmission.

Modern Auto transmissions use sensors to control shifting more accurately and fast, they even allow for engine braking on hills, they use the g sensor and brake pressure sensor and linear stroke sensors etc , A CVT transmission is far more efficient than a manual transmission, it only lacks a bit in strength making a manual better for some applications, however Auto transmissions are very reliable often causing far less issues compared to a manual. but lets hope Toyota keeps Manual transmissions a bit longer, it all depends on the market wanting them. ranger has decided to go away from Manual trans, hopefully Toyota does'nt just yet then we can have our old customers back that only left due to the late arrival of the new model Hilux.

On hybrids, for engine braking, good for long continued deceleration like going down a mountain. For normal driving, normal usage of the brake pedals is preferable for maximum regeneration.

I think, like most vehicles, it can be turned off with the transmission in any position, while the owners manual implies it can only be started in the "park" position. Of course, I haven't actually tried any of this since I use the normal "park" position for both and can't imagine a reason for doing otherwise.

You can generally start a car when the shifter is either in Park or Neutral. However, in Toyota Hybrid vehicles when selecting neutral the engine is physically disconnected from the electric motor that would start it over, so it only starts in park, and you should never leave in neutral if not necessary (the high-voltage battery can drain).

Okay, but not smart. doesn't help your MPG. wears out your brakes. notice rpm is even higher idling in neutral than idling in D... the only time to use it perhaps would be if you're hydroplanning and need to regain traction...
