I really like the way you show how to do these videos....the information you show and tell us with good close ups are very useful for us viewers. Thanks and respect from the UK.
Thank you for this video. I'm at the racetrack getting ready for the morning, and my car started idling high when I put the clutch in, and then the check engine light came on with the trouble code for a gunked up IAC. I love the way you say, "If you have a problem with your intake, the problem is here!" and then point at the throttle body and IAC. I especially like it with your accent - very entertaining and informative
That's a good explanation for why a pro will choose new parts rather than trying to fix old. It's not so much about making money, it's more about their personal reputation and reliability of the repair. When the customer doesn't understand what was done, they don't recognize the price they are paying to protect the reputation of the shop.
Install oil catch cans on the PCV and breather hoses to greatly reduce the blowby deposits. I made 2 cans each with 2 1"x12" square aluminum extruded tubes filled with stainless steel pad material, copper pipe, and 3/8" fuel hose. If you are a DIYer, you can figure it out. I reinstall the original hoses for vehicle inspections.
I have a 2.7L four cylinder motor in my Tacoma and the IAC valve is in a really difficult location. I've sprayed throttle body cleaner into the intake periodically. The last time I sprayed was in August 2018. The engine now has 191,000 miles on it.
Wow... Education for me too. My 4Runner has a 3VZ-E engine with a handy manual idle adjustment screw... I was confused when my manual said that the idle doesn't need to be adjusted on the 5VZ-E! Thanks for making this video!
I completely understand the replace vs cleaning decision... I cleaned mine the other day and as soon as I put the air intake hoses back on and buttoned everything up, I started to get a bouncing idle from 2000-3000 rpm once the engine was warm... I figure I knocked loose whatever carbon buildup was holding things together, and I suspect the valve failed a long time ago.
For a 2003 Toyota Tacoma truck you will need a Torx Star 5 Point, Driver Bit Set - to remove two screws on the IAC. I needed at T20 bit. I order a 9 piece set on Amazon for just under $10. dollars..
Great vids! I will take it off an clean it and the throttle body as well.. I don't have any codes though, and I just found that my valve solenoid on the top of the engine is cracked. Just ordered a new one 90910-13001. My idle is like 1500...? Just bought the truck, 95 t100 sr5 4x4, beautiful but has some issues and a lot of miles.. When the motor goes I want to put a diesel in it! ; D Thanks very much for making the videos..
Can u or do you know where i can get some instructions on how to replace a 1985 toyota celica gt steering rack,,,. to my records it is not a gts but it is a gt,,, My steering rack went out and i would like to replace it my self...i have been researching it alot but i can't find nothing on the web or on youtube any help would be appreciated....
Hi, I just subscribed your channel. Hey, I have 2006 tacoma 2.7l base cab. I performed the relearned steps few times already. My idle is steady but it just around 550 I guess so when its on gear, it shakes a little. Is there a way to increase it to like 700? Thanks
Hello there Toyota Maintenance guy, new subscriber here. ?s, My 2000 4runner will slightly make, almost about to die after accelerating during stop. What do u think the prob...? Thank you!
I love your video introduction, please never change it! Question: you once mentioned brake pad material that is best to use. Was it ceramic, or something else? Thank you!
@@ToyotaMaintenance I have a 1988 toyota pickup truck the automatic transmission was low on fluid would not shift properly so I added some fluid ,worked for a long time and then it started not shifting properly again I checked the fluid, it has the right amount, but I added more and it started working again and once again I had to add more fluids and I got a bunch of fluid in the transmission it still does shift into second gear but then I need to let off the gas a little and it will shift into the next gear,I'm almost positive the oil has never been changed in the transmission.. do you think that changing the transmission oil and filter will solve the problem. Also I could not find a (discussion) tab to send you a message. So I am getting a hold of you because you answered somebody's message. I hope this gets to you I would like to work on my transmission soon. My name is Patrick
I've been enjoying your work. I have a 1st gen (1997) Tacoma 4x4 with the 3.4L and manual transmission -- It has cruise control. It became intermittent and finally failed. I don't know how to troubleshoot it. If ever you encounter this type of issue, please make an instructional video. Thank-you. Oh, my truck has 296K. Since Jan-2020 I have replaced the clutch, renewed the timing belt and water pump, repaired leaking valve cover gaskets and Dec 11 new Toyo AT3s. Your videos are very helpful.
When you use cruise control, make sure the clutch pedal is all the way out. If the pedal is just a little bit in, the truck wont hold a cruise control speed
I wanted to know if you had problems with your transfer case actuator not work I have 2006 sequoia sr5 that has all lights on for the 4 wheel drive and want to fix need help
Good day thank you for a great video, i have a 2008 Toyota Solara SLE 3.3 V6 with a p0505 code......is the IAC located in the same location as in your video.....Thank you
I have a one owner (me) 1997 4runner 3.4 v6 with 370,000 miles with an idle problem. When the engine is cold the idle is 1500 rpm, when the engine is warm it remains at 1500 rpm. If I restart the engine while it's warm it will drop to 800 RPM without fail. Does that seem like the IAC should be replaced? I pulled the intake off the throttle body and it looks pretty clean. The part is $250 and I don't want to take a wild ass guess.
Hey man how do I contact you? My 2008 tundra 4.7 2wd has electric buzzing noise in cab , behind drivers side dash. I don’t hear anything in the engine bay. This happens when key is in on position and when the truck is running
Any ideas why my supercharged 5vz cold starts fine but doesn’t like to start when warm? It will stall unless I give throttle for a bit. I ordered new spark plug wires as well because it threw a misfire code
Good morning. I have a 93 toyota pickup 22r . One of the injectors was leaking and engine was shaking alot . I rebuilt all 4 injectors. It stopped leaking but truck still shakes if I lower idle adjustment screw it doesn't shake as much
Lightning Tornado my guess would be either the connector (wires not strongly connected to the connector itself) or a short (protective cover worn off the wires) behind the connector in the wires themselves.
Sir, I had to adjust my low idle rpm , and i fixed it by adjusting the Throttle stop screw, and it also worked. But then heard there's another screw called Idle Air Adjustment Screw, which is there specially for this purpose of adjusting idle air flow? and that the Throttle stop screw should not be changed but instead the idle air adjustment screw should be adjusted? I'm really having this confusion which one should i be adjusting and what are the difference between.these two?
Hey guys i cant figure out how to message (maybe its because im on my phone) i need help with my Toyota Sequoia. Weve followed your videos to do our air filter, maf, and throttle cleaning and we appreciate them!
Subscribed! Thanks for the information, I'll try to check and clean the IAC of our corolla 2002 manual J. I already cleaned the MAF sensor, throttle body and replaced the air intake filter but after several days cold engine starts turns hard again.
I took off my throttle body and the iac valve and cleaned them. Once the engine warms up it runs fine but since i cleaned the parts the idle is very high when cold. How do i go about adjusting the cold idle speed? Thanks
dude what is the polarity of the 3 wire conected to the IAC valve we have a toyota exiv here and the Idle is very high around 1500 rpm we are diagnosing if its the IAC solonoid or a faulty ECU we need your help
I have a 1997 3rd Gen 4Runner - I love your channel - I went the route you did when you were a beginner and cleaned my IAC because my car would die when cold. I put the cleaned IAC back in and now it idles at 1500 rpm in Park and Neutral even when warmed up. In Drive, it idles at 800RPM which is normal. Any suggestions on what I should try next??? Thanks for your excellent videos! I love your positive vibe!
1998 Toyota camry 3.0.when I start it idles at almost 2grpm then as it warms up it goes down to normal.only does it on cold starts. Any help please..ty
fk Sahraoui Hi I did just fix that on my Avanza. The first time I didn't get it right the Avanzas valve looks totally different and is very expensive. The Avanza valve it's a short probe. Inside the probe is the actual valve. So there is a small gap in the probe the valve is the inside pipe in the probe. So it's difficult to get to clean there . I used a strong cleaner called compression stabilizer that cleanses carburettor and valves without assembling it. Mostly used on motorbikes. I did spray the compression stabilizer in the 5 mm gap on the probe. One way and turned it around and cleaned the other side of the valve . Repeated twice . And after that the idle was normal again
I really need an answer. My 2020 Tacoma’s transmission feels weird. The dealer always tells me is how it’s supposed to be but I can’t believe them after driving other Toyota’s and other brands and they all feel smooth as driving on glass. This is my second tacoma that’s felt this way the first was a 2018 4 cyl and my current is a 2020 v6 and they both feel jerky and sloppy particularly in traffic and also very slow to shift when getting on the throttle when passing or getting on the freeway. I just want an answer of why and what I can do if there is anything.
That poor car. The starter solenoid, Dick the tow truck driver and now this. I had the 2004 XRS 2ZZ-GE w/C60 in Solar Yellow with ceramic window tint. Bought it in 2003 off the showroom floor. I put on every TRD part offered and the optional subwoofer. The car was inexpensive but not cheep. It would do over 110 and felt great. Got a ticket to prove it doing a 1250 mile trip in one stretch. Had to race with other cars to stay awake even after getting the ticket. To me it was a great car. Living in Southern California I can't imagine the corrosion I see on the cars you take in. All you guys and Gals too, if you are going to park a car that long leave the hood open. Seriously how long would you live in a house without a roof. Hood closed you have a Habitrail. This goes for farm equipment too.
Should I clean it if I have an idle of 650rpm on my 1996 Toyota 4Runner 3.4L V6 cause no one is telling me what a normal idle should be for this vehicle, no owners manual bought used!!! Please help
Hello my friend. My 2004 Toyota 4runner Sr5 v8, has a misfire code. The misfire is on C/#3 coil. I replaced all spark plugs and ignition coils, but I still have a misfire on C/#3 coil. At first I could cut the engine off and it would stop for most of the day, then start back. I'm thinking computer issue.? Have you had this issue before? Thanks in advance!
For those 3rd gen owners: If you have a 2001 or 2002, you may not have an IAC valve for you to clean. I dug into the throttle body pretty deep on a wild goose chase for the IAC valve that I later found out wasn't there.
I just have to add this. This stuff can be avoided with proper maintenance, refer to your Owner's Manual. Use Quality oil and change it when needed. Dirty oil vapor coats the intake via the PCV. Clean oil will too but will be a lot easier to clean off. Post throttle body. Use Quality Fuel. I didn't say High Octane, Low Octane I said Quality Fuel. Depending where you are located station names change. I stick to Chevron, Mobil and Shell in that order. Run the right Octane, check your manual. It's the engine's mechanical timing, electric timing and compression ratio COMBINED that determines what octane will give the better performance. Don't choose fuel by it's price or you think that higher octane will make the car run even better. I used to say in the business "Pay Me Now or Pay Me Later" 😳😯
Hi, I have few RPM Idle related problems on RAV4-2002 . The RPM needle shoots to 2500 and takes around 2 minutes to slowly fall back to 1500 RPM and another 2 minutes to reach 1000RPM. During this time the needle keeps moving up to 2000RPM momentarily and start dropping. My idle RPM is 750 when engine is warm enough by 5 minutes. Problem 2: Every time, the SUV is coming to a complete stop, the needle goes up to 1000RPM and then falls back to 750RPM. Why like this? Lastly, when you accelerate from 0 -60kmph, there is hesitation. Pick up is slow. Plz. advise the solution. Thank you greatly
Replace new alternator and new battery and still have low voltage when use a meter goes from 13.98 to about 12 and lower what could be the problem help if you can. Can’t it be my throttle body been to dirty and was not able to reset when the battery was take off
Hi! Big fan here! Hope you could help me on my 2003 corolla. At cold start, my car starts with no problem but once it gets warmed up, it cranks but it takes extra 3 seconds to start and it feels like hesitation. I cleaned the MAF, IAC and changed the air filter. And surprisingly, no codes found except for pending CAT. Thanks
since you've already gone through intake diagnoses im guessing it's a fuel issue. no codes typically means fuel related. listen for priming, regulator etc. check your vacuum line off the pressure regulator if it's wet at all. take a probe to your injectors cold then warm see if any are clicking diff. if you have a obd2 scanner, monitor your live data readouts. do check your ground wires, i'd clean them anyway and volt drop test them. also test your starter as they can start worse when warm as they wear. also, super cheap and can help a surprising amount: run a bottle of HEET in your next fill up.
Have a 99 camry tried to take off the iac connector with two bolts to get to the elctro magnetic valve and the one bolt stripped out. Any advice on how to get around this?
