+Michael dewhirst That is a common false impression of 4X4 pickup trucks. SUVs are always better off-road machines than any pickup trucks due to better weight distribution and shorter length, factory built speaking. And....... the Land Cruiser is one of the highest rated off-road vehicles out there.
These are car guys, not off road truck/suv guys, they know nothing about landcruisers. We love them here too, just not the people with no knowledge of them.
I get it, in the US you dont come in contact with Land Cruisers too much to know what they really are, but it is also embarrassing to know so little about the most durable truck on earth and call it "mommy suv"
It's fascinating how Americans have no idea about the world that exists outside of America, and are always amazed when seeing something different. Pretty strange for a country that actually invented internet.
sik59rt Actually no, I had the privilege of meeting a lot of Americans, which are amazing people in every respect, but most of them had literary no idea, so to speak, about the rest of the world. And when you combine stuff you see on tv and internet, you can come to the conclusion that vast majority (of course not all of the Americans), but way more that 50% have no idea about the rest of the world (figuratively speaking).
dimekoza I know it wasn't, my bad, but the US government did not invent the internet. Yes they contributed a great deal to networking, but without Tim B-L we would not have HTML, URL, HTTP and we would likely have to pay royalty fees for the right to use it. This contribution outweighs that of the US government, hence why he is widely accepted as the inventor of the internet as we know it. That said, your statement on Americans is (generally speaking of course) correct, only 46% of US citizens have a passport and only 3.5% travel abroad.
Capable??? Of course they are capable! The Land Cruiser is an Iconic 4X4 in fact goes along with the Defender. Its a monster! Toyota has always been TOP 4x4 Brand.
Juliusz Baczynski but patrol always have those transmission issues, if you ever own a patrol you know what i'm talking about. And btw, electronic rarely fail in a landcruiser.
Juliusz Baczynski that means you're luckier than us. Two patrols so far, worked on the transmissions every time we could. But our patrols are from the year 2000, maybe thats why.
Xeno in most countries its a status symbol and an offroader. But in the us its a normal family suv . Alot of people dont even know that the lanecruiser is a csr in the us. Including me for sometime. Since we have the toyota sequoi ehich is practically a landcruiser but cheaper. And also the highlander
Theres a reason why Land Cruisers (aswell as Patrols and Pajeros) are used and loved by so many. Go anywhere offroad outside of north america and you see these everywhere with the occasional landrover.
For someone with a channel called "drive", this guy doesn't seem to know much. The various Land cruiser series, especially the pick ups and solid front axle versions are considered by many to be the toughest vehicles on the planet. They NEVER die and are capable as fuck. "mommy SUV" WTF??? They become "mommy SUV's in country's where people have too much money to spend and buy them for driving around in the city.
The world might be going to shit in some aspects, yet there will always be a bond through car and truck culture. True gearheads can always find common ground.
+chefdan87 It might seem odd, but I'd like to see Jeremy Clarkson appointed as a UN peace envoy to the Middle East. He'd sort that whole clusterfuck out with a massive race.
How can he call himself a car guy and know NOTHING about this car other then it's a mommy car??? One its not a mommy car I kno no mommys with this car. U have to question these so called car reviewers. The land cruiser is a legend. Toyotas are awesome and people who are into them kno this.
Toyota4Life It's pretty simple to understand...a 6 thousand pound 7 seat SUV is aimed at mom's driving around kids. It may have been capable in levelish sand, but that was not it's main purpose, it's main purpose is being a mom car....a Jeep wrangler on the other hand is never going to be confused as a mommy suv
Hector Ayala That's exactly right. Here in the States Land Cruisers are more apt to be seen in mall parking lots and in front of a Starbucks - not off road.
Toyota4Life You'd be much more likely to see a Ford F150 or a Chevy Silverado or a Jeep Wrangler going off road in the U.S. The Land Cruiser in the U.S. is typically bought by the same sort of people who buy Siennas. They're essentially minivans here.
Hector Ayala What can I say other than Toyota makes both SUV and 4WD. The Toyota Landcruiser is aimed at 4WD people, not SUV. Outside of the USA the Landcruiser/Prado and Patrol are considered a better choice for off-road than Jeep. Also the Discovery is considered highly. Look at news reels and vids from Africa, Asia, Middle East, Australia, NZ, Pacific Islands and you'll see how common these vehicles are in remote areas.
***** Old Landcruisers yes, not new. Jeep wasn't for sale in those regions....just recently started selling jeeps in Australia, and they are already taking over. New landcruisers are not primarily made for off road use....no 7 seat suv is primarily designed for offroad use, you can argue that til you are blue in the face. new landcruisers are not the old landcruisers used in Africa...those are the ones you see in news reels as you say, not the mom suv's they sell today
Arya Ahmadi Many, many, MANY US citizens believe that it's just that way. Some of our media channels seem dead-set on turning the folks like these into baby-killing monsters. It's very, very sad.
Hala Madrid Well there are plenty of ignorant people that rely on the news for their information, and they shape their entire world view solely on that 30 minute show that comes on few times a day.
a completely stock (with exception of shock absorbers and tires and a roll cage) LX570 which is basically a Land Crusier won the BAJA 1000.... and Ford did try the same with their Ford Raptor but it just ended up bending its frame so bad that it was unable to finish... the Land Cruiser is also known as the "off-road king" so why is this guy so surprised to see a Land Cruiser do this?
Here in the philippines...hilux is a legend american brand are moneypit and gas guzzler...I have a 40 year old tamaraw fx and still runs...my ford pinto gave way earlier because of parts are nowhere to be found...RIP
Excellent video. I also love to explore the UAE dunes in a Land Cruiser; Ahmed is a very capable driver. Just wanted to note one area of correction. The UR3 5.7 pumps out more torque than the 1UR over the complete torque band. In fact; the UR3 is almost like a diesel, it pumps 90% of all its torque already at 2200rpm. The 4.6 is way less powerful, but what Toyota has done for the Middle East to offset that, is to reduce the gear ratio: running the 4.6 t a higher rpm vs the 5.7. Excellent engine, the 4.6.... but the 5.7 is really more powerful at every rpm (torque and BHP). From a drivers view, this has also been my personal experience while owning both the 4.6 and now 5.7.
Typical USA, how dare you even imagine a TOYOTA LANDCRUISER was built simply for the school run. One of the best vehicles built, especially the old ones
@@rsmith155 I bought Lexus GX 470 2003. ( Toyota land cruiser Prado ) vith 80 000 miles, driven only on asphalt, from a family member, so I know the all story about the car.
Huss Ali because it is way easier to learn english than any other language on the earth .. ohh.. and he must've practice alot. muscles in your tongue need to exercise to do that too ..
no se en que mundo cuando hay tantas posibles combinaciones con tanto significado para una sola palabra .. for real .. Spanish is way harder thrust me .. :)
You think so? English has a lot of words that sound the same and are spelled the same, Yet they mean different things. I guess it all depends on who you talk to. Either way I like learning new languages. Have a nice day. :)
Guyz next time you are coming to dubai just let me know and I will hook you up to try +1000hp nissan patrol in the desert , Thanks for the amazing shoots and your after drive episode is amazing as well
Arya Ahmadi You can't have ever owned a Jeep with that statement. Patrols and Landcruisers are tanks out there and hardly ever breakdown in the UAE desert. Unlike Jeeps, I should know as I had one out there.
Arya Ahmadi yotas are sold all over the world and parts are more readily accessible than jeeps who've been barely opening the market world wide... that means yotas are even more cheaper to "maintain" than jeeps because of part replacements... idk why people adore defenders tho... never liked them off road
Watching this video made me very happy for many reasosn. First because i'm from Dubai, and we do this kinda of stuff almost every weekend. Also it got people to know the other side from Dubai, not just shopping malls and tall buildings. And lastly I'm a HUGE fan of this channel so watching them in my city is really awesome :D
Got the opportunity to do this in UAE a few years ago and boy oh boy was it fun. The locals are super friendly and fearless when it comes to this. Thanks for this /Drive
Fekillix ya im from UAE and i understand, we do desert cleaning but people still leave stuff behing all the time, sad but its better then what it used to be before :)
I highly dislike this video... simply for the fact that they thought the land cruiser is not capable... it is well known that it has been one of the best offroaders throughout history... ever.... considering this is a car channel i cant believe this is something "new" and "surprising" to them... the UN buys nothing but land cruisers for their overseas missions... again... disappointed
Patrick Kroell war reporters always said that when they are stuck in a war zone, the sound of a Land Cruiser is more reassuring than the sound of a rescue helicopter.... that is the type of reputation the Land Cruiser build for itself... i'm shocked when this guy just said he thought it was just a "mommy SUV"
Patrick Kroell It's the same for the Range Rover. Both are cars constructed with serious offloading in mind that they'll probably never experience. Come to Dubai and you'll see that while we have thousands of Land Cruisers and Patrols here they're no differently used than any minivan.
Patrick Kroell Don't blame the guy. That is how vehicles including Nissan Xterra (Patrol), Land Cruisers, Range Rovers, Escalades, LR4s are used in the USA. I swear you'll never see a Range Rover touch dirt even once in its life if it is used in the USA. Our off-roading tools are Jeeps and Chevy pickup trucks.
Arya Ahmadi Hummers isn't too big over there, the Hummer was originally a "bling" SUV... with the exception of the H1 everyone says the hummer is crap when it comes to serious off-roading... and the FJ is Land Cruiser
+moesha pempengco they're famous in the middle eastern region too, in every single street you'll find a land cruiser, I even just received my '16 cruiser 2 weeks ago.
Awesome guy to bring DRIVE out there and show them the ropes. I have a feeling because of this guy they may have gotten the opportunity to drive a crazy turbo patrol... let's hope a video gets posted soon
I wouldn't say nobody sees that scene at all. We took a desert safari tour with 3 hours of dune bashing in a Land Cruiser. We had such a fun time. We'll do it again next time we go back to Dubai. Very cool video thanks for sharing.
that was a beautiful video guys, i think it really highlights the fact that people everywhere are more alike that we are different and akmed seems like a really cool guy.
My family (Australia) went over last year September, we went to the desert as soon as we got off the plane, tired as hell but we did anyway, best experience of my life, the drivers would always have a smile on their faces and all round was just such a fun time. It gets a little sketchy at times but hell, it was good fun. The driver would also say "i have the best job in the world". Dubai is full of surprises and very hot weather haha!
I drive a 2003 Land Cruiser, it's been in my family since we got it from the dealer in 2002, and it's amazing. It's never had a single major issue, and it's got upwards of 330,000 miles on it. I love these cars to death. We've also got a 2015 Land Cruiser, but I wouldn't trade mine for 3 of the new ones.
This is a good video, but srsly the host know nothing about cars if he thought toyota 4wds were made to pick up kids at school. Ahmad should take over the channel :P
This video put a tear in my eye cause there aren't many videos showing off how badass and capable a Land Cruiser is and makes me proud that my dad has one and will be passing it onto me
Pretty cool stuff. I never seem to have time in Dubai to even check this kind of action out while flying through. Just came back to Afghanistan from vacation in the US and picked up a 97 Land Cruiser with factory lockers and of course the full floating rear axle. Don't want to spend the kind of green for a 200 series in the US and an 80 series will make a good project. I like the 4.5L inline but will probably go to an LS3 w/ 6L80 in the future. Should be a beast and glad to see just how well the LC works in the sand and then in the Outback.
if you leave the states a bit (which is an amazing country, don't get me wrong), you will realize that toyota is the king of the country side. They have a v8 diesel that is amazing. And talking about other cars, land rover, mercedes g and a lot more, but toyota is the king. Jeep is great but is under those three. I am sorry but it is like that. I am talking about stock cars more or less. The mercedes is not the king because of its price, range rover is amazing but too fancy and heavy, defender is great but need an upgrade from land rover. And that's it. Patrol, Pajero, jeep (jeep the last of this), are great, but toyota... the best. that is a fact. And there are no other american vehicles included for real off road with a "mostly" unmodified car.
I’ve gone over a weekend to the dunes here in Dubai in a land cruiser V8 and it’s so much fun man Its scary for a new guy but to the ones who are used to it this is just fun 👍✌️
i dont see how rifling the inside of the shock body would accomplish that. if anything, everything would blow past the glide ring of the piston making damping almost non existent
***** I considered that he was saying "bored out" but since in motor terms it's pretty much specific american slang, that countries version is rifled or as he used it grammatically, rifling. It makes sense since you are cutting a spiral out of a round steel cylinder/rod to make a rifled weapon barrel as well.
Thanks to the UAE gov for signing the sales of seized super cars at 70% off the original price . People are buying Rolls Royces for as low as $70,000 . What are you doing with your time ??
The major reason why people don't benefit from schemes like this is because they are not always informed , the government only pass the information to a selected few . I think they need to work more on informing the people
The sales has been on for about a week now but the problem is that a person can only buy one car . I got a 2017 land cruiser for $45,000 my friend didn't believe me until the car got delivered . hahaha
I think this is for those in UAE only since its from the UAE government but if you are in the UAE my friend works with the customs and could help you process it . Here is his email address abdulatif@uaegov. io
The fact that this guy saw Landcruiser as a 'mommy SUV' prevents me from subscribing to this channel! If you don't know about Landcruiser, then there are serious doubts about your offroading capabilities and experience!
