Great video! Only thing I would add is there is a plastic tab on the actuator arm that has to go into the hole that is closest to the center of the assembly. I unfortunately put the tab into the outer hole and the result was the door wouldn't lock. Had to pull it all apart again to fix the issue- so frustrating! You assembled it correctly so there wasn't a problem, but others may run into what I did. View the video in full screen so you can see the parts.

Thanks for such a detailed process on the replacement. However, I have not been able to pull out the part that gors to the door handle. I was able to lose the clip that holds it in place. But it seems as it has something else holding it from releasing. I even took out the blqck rubber that is across to no avail. I'm thinking on either W40 or heated a bit. Any suggestions? I started yesterday and ot is still all taken apart. Thank you very much for the video... John
The rod that connects to the door handle can be difficult to pop out. The panel removal tool that I use needs to get in between the rod and the lever in order to force in out with leverage. The rod needs to be pulled straight out. Wd40 could help if the rod is Rusty I would avoid heat if possible. Good luck, be patient and THANKS for your support. 😊
I need to change all 5 (rear door also) actuators in a 2002 rav4 but I also need to change out all the window motors. I did not see a video on your channel for the window motor but I was wondering if the rear windows use the same motors are the front windows. Thanks
Great video very thorough but - how the heck did you get the latch rod free?! I've been trying for at least an hour and it won't budge. In the video, you don't fully show that part. I've been using a v shaped tool like you did, have tried several screwdrivers too.
It’s hard to film in a tight spot, the clip needs to rotate first to get the hooked part of it off of the rod, only then can you pry the rod end out of the clip, it can pretty tight sometimes, a v shaped tool works best, and sometimes takes a bit of force to pop it out. @@scrapdaddysgarage5027 thanks, my v shaped tool isn't working. I've done the tailgate actuator on 2 2nd generation RAV4, and each time just the right size screwdriver popped it out. Does that v shaped tool you used have a name and size? I may need to go get one. BTW, no need to replace the actuator, only the $5 motor inside it JB Weld and/or zip tie the actuator shut after replacing the burned out motor.
@@scrapdaddysgarage5027 yes, thanks again. That's 3/5 on my 205,000 mile RAV4. Considerable savings, especially since I learned to just replace the $5 motor. I should probably replace the remaining originals, before they fail in the winter.
It’s a no name tool that came with a assortment of clips, That rod is stubborn to remove. You need leverage to pop it out, the v in the tool needs to fit around the rod to pry it out. Any tool that resembles it should work, Good Luck and thanks for watching.
I used a test light to see if the lock actuators were getting power, they were, I even powered them up using jumper wires directly off a battery they would not function. On this car the passenger door actuator failed then the drivers a month later. Thanks for watching. Please subscribe if you haven’t already.
You wasted an hour of my morning trying to fight that yellow clip rod out when two more bolts removed the whole mechanism. Your video quickly glosses over removal of that and you failed to mention its barbed on the end; it's not meant to be disassembled and will never be as secure as it was after removal. Folks watching this video it's 99% accurate but just remove the exterior lock mechanism and door latch to save a lot of effort that is glossed over here.
