So the Sportage starts 2500$ lower for equivalent models and the warranty is 2 years longer .... But the power train is 10 years in the US. How much would the same warranty cost for the Rav4. Makes the Kia so much more value for you money and it looks sooooooooo much better inside! And outside IMO. I've had 5 Kia's and never had any major issues other then a engine recall!

It’s Kias time right now. Toyota is headed in the wrong direction, lack of innovation and frankly lazy/behind the competition roll outs/updates and the reliability isn’t what it used to be. I have a 2017 sportage and it’s the best everyday/family car In my opinion. Here in the US the standard warranty is 5yr/60k bumper to bumper w/ 100k power train warranty. It’s not perfect by any means but there’s less compromises that I can live with.

I bought a new Camry hybrid because of the Toyota hybrid track record, my first Toyota and I came out of a Kia product. But I also purchased with cash and plan to own it a long time, if I was leasing I might have felt different, Hyundai/Kia usually have better rates. And I extended the warranty to 5 years, Toyota should definitely be 5 years B2B standard!

All your numbers are off by exactly $500 US for the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid. Every trim model is $500 more on the Toyota website in the US. And worth noting you're comparing the 2023 Sportage vs. the 2022 RAV4. I'm sure those prices will get a bump up for the new 2023 RAV4 model with the updated interior infotainment screen. I just spent 2 weeks researching both of these vehicles, watching every video and reading every article I could find on the two. Yesterday I ordered the Sportage hybrid. Also, local Kia dealerships are saying 4-6 months for the Sportage Hybrid, while Toyota dealership says RAV4 is over a year wait supposedly. I like them both for different reasons, and both have pluses and minuses. Neither is perfect, but I don't think you can go wrong with either one, I think the Sportage Hybrid and RAV4 Hybrid are both great choices. EDIT: Great videos by the way. Informative and easy to watch.

Here in SLC Kia only offers a non refundable deposit which turned we away from their product. Toyota and Honda offer fully refundable deposits. Even Hyundai will call you when the vehicle is allocated and give you the option to commit or refund your deposit. No dealership is perfect but I'll stay away from Kia!

I just got my Sportage hybrid last Friday and I’m absolutely loving it! I got the Xline and I actually took a lift 90 miles away to Lancaster because they told me if I came in that day to buy instead of charging me $6000 over sticker they would only charge $2000 and pay for my ride. I was very happy with Valley Kia and I’m very happy with the car but I may wind up trading it in very soon because I want the top of the line and then white instead of the gray that I got. It’s just a personal choice And I will lease and save about $250 a month by doing so by trading up. I wanted all of the features and I wanted the white color and they were absolutely not available right away. And I did consider the plug-in RAV4 but I’d much rather save the money and try out Kia for once and see what it’s like and I love the design so much better than the RAV4.

DETROIT -- Hyundai and Kia are telling the owners of nearly 485,000 vehicles in the U.S. to park them outdoors because they can catch fire even if the engines have been turned off. The recalls from the two Korean automakers are another in a long string of fire and engine failure problems that have dogged the companies for the past six years. This should sum up Kia/Hyundai vehicles.

As a former Kia owner, I traded in my almost 10 year old car for my Venza last year (sister car to the RAV4 Hybrid). I found my Kia to be quite reliable for about 6 years, but in the last 3 years I owned it, it needed about $7000 worth of repairs on various things that didn't seem to hold up long term (and a few of the issues were quite expensive). Now, the good news is I bought an extended warranty, so it was all covered under that, but even making warranty claims always seemed like a hassle. Also, I had to bring the vehicle back numerous times to fix the issue, so in my experience, the service level was pretty below average. If they couldn't handle repairs right the first time around on a regular car, I wouldn't be overly confident they'd manage any better with a more complex vehicle with a turbo and hybrid powertrain. I chose to replace my Kia with a Toyota Hybrid as they are known to be the most reliable vehicles on the planet and I am hopeful the dealership experience will be better (it can't be worse than the Kia dealership was). Lastly, regarding "Cablegate", the issue is the cable that connects to the rear motor mounts facing "up", which allows salt/water to creep into the connector housing and pool, which will corrode and damage the connector over time. This issue only affects 2019-2021 models. The newer ones have a cover that helps protect the connector/motor better and I think they may have reversed the connector position (so it now faces down).

I have a 21 Venza limited fully loaded. Question for you; in US gallons are you able to pump more than 11 gallons when nearly empty? Toyota says Venza has a 14.5 gallon tank and highway mpg over 500 miles. In almost 12,000 miles and 1- extended driving trip of over 2500 miles, I’ve been unable to get more than 425 miles range on 1-tank. My dealer has had the car twice to try to remedy the issue but has failed. Toyota corporate has been notified but they are inept. Plenty of complaints from owners on Venza forums. Can’t complain about the mpg as it’s been as advertised. Btw. the tires are terrible in the snow and are very loud with increasing miles. Good luck with your Venza purchase.

10-31-23 "CableGate"...since your video, has now been resolved. In the USA Toyota has sent out letters to those affected hybrid owners, that an 8 year of 100k mile warranty on the cable in question now exists. I recd my letter I believe about 8 months ago. They will inspect the hybrid vehicle for free if it is exhibiting symptoms like a defective cable and if it is the issue, they will also replace it for free. I am very happy with that. In Canada my understanding is that affected hybrid owners, also recd a warranty/ free replacement if the cable has failed due to corrosion (per articles I have read) for a similar period of time.

Really nice interior on the Kia. Front end is way over the top. I’ve been following “cable gate” and Toyota really has to make this right for affected owners. I’m still convinced Toyota one of the most reliable brands though. Not a big fan of the RAV4 “Star Wars Storm Trooper” look though and industrial looking interior as well as the noisy cabin. I’m on stand by for a new vehicle, not a buyers market.

Andrea and Zack both said (a few times) that the Kia was quiet so I doubt the cabin is noisier than the Toyota. The Toyota's interior is so utilitarian, they are far behind many competitors in this area. I also would be very reluctant to spend my hard earned dollars on the idea that the company is going to "make things right" on a known defect. I have a friend that just bought a new RAV4 and spent over a thousand dollars getting the extended warranty to protect himself from the risk of a cable problem. Toyota should fix things now or I think they risk losing sales to their competitor.

Very good review, I had hard time deciding between the 2. What leaned me toward RAV4 is the shifter. Kia has a dial that I don’t understand but sure looks like it’s not like the RAV4 where you can manually shift it. Being from Buffalo NY, I’ve learned that down shifting in snow is far more effective than ABS braking by itself. When I look for a vehicle, I need to see that I have control of the drive system. That dial thing on the Sportage does not tell me what I’m looking for. So far I have not seen anyone comment on that.

Thank you guys both for having honest, practical reviews. So many of the old reliables are having issues, and so many of the formerly fraught manufacturers have really stepped up. I'd love to get your thoughts on who you think has the best longterm reliability these days.

Wait times must vary between Canada and the US for both. I ordered a Rav 4 SE Hybrid last month in Canada, not expecting it until June of 23. Daughter and her husband just ordered a Kia Sportage hybrid in the US last week..Expecting it at beginning of Oct 22.

Great job bringing up the corrosion on the high voltage cable. You are one of the few reviewers who are raising this issue. The pro Toyota reviewers fail to mention it even when commented on. Specifically Toyota works, Toyota Jeff and care care nut.

@@moezpadani8088 not really resolved. The new cable is also corroding just slower. There is now a US class action suit that covers all Toyota and Lexus vehicles that are using the both the old and new cable

I'm seeing more and more Kia's on the roads here in Florida...its looks are growing on me. To be clear...the corrosion issue is mainly cold weather and harsh winter areas? Is it me or does that 2 toned Rav4 look sharp....I've been seeing more 2 toned vehicles recently. Am I just catching on to that...I like that look.

I just took a look at the Sportage Hybrid SX today (late Feb 2023) in Tempe, AZ and was told to expect a $5k mark-up. The cars are also in high demand so they require a $1,000 non-refundable deposit with delivery estimated to be anywhere from 1-6 months.

Like your channel. Great comparison. I had a 2000 Tacoma, sold it because I traveled too much for work. Have a 2008 Camry with 237k miles and major issues, just regular maintenance. I'll be due for a new car/SUV in the next year or so. I honesty can I'm only considering Toyota. I buy my cars and run them until I need a new one. Don't see being able to do that with Kia w/o major repairs. Just my thoughts

If resale value and long-term reliability are major considerations, its almost like RAV4 is the default choice. As good as Hyundai/Kia's hybrid system is, its not yet as proven as Toyota's bulletproof system, especially when it comes to resale value on used market. If I have to choose, however, I would definitely take the Kia Sportage because its an much better package. Overall.

I've seen the Sportage a few times and it looks like a hot mess imo; as was said once on the old Top Gear show (about a different brand), it's like Kia couldn't stop designing it! The front end, in particular, had a very odd look to it. The RAV4 is by far my favorite in terms of looks; it's what I would call ruggedly handsome and would, therefore, still look good for years to come.
