A look at the 1990-1995 Toyota Sera. A quirky and stylish Japanese domestic market only sports car/coupe with butterfly doors. A few have been imported to the UK and Europe. 31 years later, how does it drive on the roads of the UK?
The car that inspired a certain feature on Gordon Murray's McLaren F1.
Introduced in 1990, the Toyota Sera EXY10 was a forward thinking design from Toyota. This particular car is a 1990 phase 1, with an automatic gearbox.

I was pleasantly surprised to see it was an auto. Unless it's on a performance car I'm so not bothered about manuals anymore 😄 I think it will!

I've been driving the Hyundai Coupe for about 4 months now and I'm still putting the wipers on every time I go to indicate

But but but, it's better because you can change gear and indicate at the same time.... even if you end up with no rubber left on the wipers and a windscreen entirely made of scratches 😂

incase you never found out, the katakana (or japanese characters) near the automatic transmission handle say 'shifuto rokku shisutemu', basically 'shift lock system'

No, not yet! I think the owner is struggling to let go of it as it's basically a family heirloom now :)

Haha, I am aware of the song (I think thanks to the Simpsons!), but it absolutely didn't click with me the link between that song and the meaning of the cars name 😂 Thanks Fred! Perhaps they should have called it the Que Sera. Or that could have been a special edition!
