My Toyota Smart Connect multimedia system in my Toyota Yaris 2022 (Excel with Tech pack - UK) failed to update three times. Video shows how I managed to get the update to work at the 4th attempt.

Does anyone know how to access the hidden menu on this entertainment system? On the Toyota Touch 2 you could see the 12v battery voltage and right now it would be very useful for me.

If there is a hidden menu I would also like to know how to access it ... I have pinned your question underneath the video ... hopefully someone will let us know. Since you want to know the 12V battery voltage I am guessing that your car has failed to start because the 12V battery is flat. Unfortunately this has happened to me as well. I have made a load of videos about the "12V battery problem" with my Yaris Mark 4. Unfortunately, it is a common problem with the Yaris Mark 4. I bought a voltmeter that plugs into the accessory socket to monitor the 12V battery voltage. Obviously when the car is running it normally displays the charging voltage from the DC-DC converter but I have figured out a way of using it to monitor the voltage of my 12V battery. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0nYdnNVgvJI.html These are the other videos about the 12V battery problem that you may find interesting. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--UkrUwpkePM.html My Yaris Mark 4 fails to start ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-cSfik4yyXfo.html Dealer fix ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ctXDnI9uuYI.html Do I need to do more miles? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-o8MkFUPfdvQ.html Dealer installs cable free ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Ch-L0JbbQUg.html Wash car & charge 12V battery ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3k7SSJecDUg.html Hyundai and Kia solution ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-XwY7m3xkybM.html Did a Toyota OTA cause my failure to start? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-RY5VZRhhwto.html Buying a used Yaris

A huge THANK YOU for posting this video. With so many views in just two months, obviously many others have the same problem. I have spent hours and hours trying to resolve this (because software bugs in 1.23.136 would not allow my iPhone to work with car play). I even had several calls with Toyota. Just by leaving my phone inside the house allowed me to update to 1.23.136. Such a simple solution, yet Toyota didn’t even know this. Thanks for posting :-) 😊 Tony

Thanks for the comment. I am glad that leaving your iPhone in your house worked and allowed you to update your car. Its interesting that I have discovered a trick that allows the car to be updated that even Toyota do not know !!!

Turn your phone off before trying to update. Worked perfectly. 4th attempt. Thank you

Glad you finally got the update ... at the 4th attempt!!! ... Toyota need to figure out a better solution that does not require the phone to be switched off.

Buddy try if it works for you this: instead of turning your car off and on to drain 12v battery even more: to perform a reset on infotainment system press and hold volume button until you see Toyota logo on screen. I hope that works for you. Regards

Thanks for this. I have a Yaris Cross with the same sound/audio system. At last Android Auto appears on the touch screen. But I also get a brief message saying that privacy mode is inactive. Does it need to be active, I wonder. I have not changed anything in case Android Auto dissapears!

I think the annoying "Privacy mode is inactive" notice is generated because (like me) you have chosen to allow your personal driving information to be shared with Toyota who can then make it available in the MyToyota app. The MyToyota app provides a LOT of detailed information about each drive. Tap on "Hybrid Coaching" then tap on "Trips" and you can see each individual trip that you drive in your Yaris. If you then tap on the map for one of the trips you can see - the start & end addresses - distance driven - the start and end date & time - a road map of the exact route driven - when you were in EV mode & when you were in petrol mode - mpg for the drive - the map highlights the location any good and bad driving habits that affect petrol consumption This information is available in the app and I am almost certain that it is also stored in a server at Toyota. I have been told by Toyota that the MyToyota app will show trip information for the last year ... so I believe that means that your trips will be stored on a server at Toyota for 1 year. I can understand that some people will be uncomfortable with this which is why Toyota allow you to decide to enable privacy mode. I think privacy mode will disable all of this tracking your location and storing detailed information about each of your drives. It also means that there will be no information on your drives available in your MyToyota app. Personally I have absolutely no concerns ... I find the information in MyToyota app very useful so I do not want privacy 😀 The bit that I do find annoying is the pop up window every time I start the car that tells me that "Privacy mode is inactive" .... surely they do not need to do this every single time ... once a month would be sufficient !!! This Toyota privacy setting will not have any impact on Android Auto and Google Maps. Google also has privacy settings for your location and how often your location history is deleted. After all that discussion about privacy I have a question ... you said that ... "At last Android Auto appears on the touch screen. " I have had Android Auto on the display in my car since the day I collected the car ... 30-Dec-22. The salesman set my phone up for me as part of the handover. I then changed phone late Jan-23 and I set this phone up by myself. To be honest it was dead easy ... it just worked. I didn't do a video about it because it was so straight forward I didn't think anybody would watch the video! Have you had problems getting Android Auto to work in your car?

@@Helpful-Stuff Thanks for replying. Your a star. Yes I have had problems getting Android Auto to work. It seems to have a mind of its own. Sometimes linking up and sometimes not. I previously had the Yaris Dymamic which had no sat nav and I could only use Android Auto via a wired connection from my phone via the one and only USB socket. I took delivery of my Yaris Cross in November which has Sat Nav built in and wireless Android Auto, when it wants to work. I have been very pleased with both cars, great MPG on both. If only the sound system had an actual volume/on and off knob. The sysem in my wifes CHR is better.

I totally agree - fuel consumption is fantastic. I had a Yaris Mark 3 and that had very good fuel consumption but the Yaris Mark 4 is much better. I have done a video analysing my fuel consumption and how it varies as the weather gets hotter / colder ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Tvy1g-GbLCw.html Android Auto connectivity - Before the update in December 2023 ... I experimented with just jumping in the car and driving off - before Android Auto had connected - I found that Android Auto often failed to connect. So I got in the habit of waiting for Android Auto to connect and then setting off. Waiting improved the reliability of Android Auto connectivity but it would still fail about 10% of the time. The Dec-23 update said that there was "Improved reconnection logic for smartphones". Toyota have definitely improved the Android Auto connectivity because now I hardly ever get failures after this update. But because I have got into the routine of waiting for Android Auto to connect I am still waiting for Android Auto to connect before driving off. Maybe if you are not in a rush ... try giving Android Auto chance to connect before your drive off ... it may help.
