I'm a long-time Tacoma owner, but I'm going to have to part ways with Toyota over this new engine. For me, it's a real headscratcher that Toyota decided to eliminate the V6 and replace it with a tiny 4 cylinder. They are banking on turbochargers to convince consumers they are getting the power they want. But anyone who knows how a turbocharger works knows there's a lot more heat and internal pressure on an engine when you are using forced induction. Heck, even the turbo itself can develop issues - it's complex with lots of parts. Turbochargers are great for racing, but racing teams break down their engines after every race. Consumers who expect their daily driver to last for years are going to be disappointed with the short-lived turbo 4.

There were no other Tacomas available to buy, only 4-door trucks, again having totally useless rear seats, wasting valuable bed area for worthless rear seats. I never needed rear seats in a truck! NEVER, yet Toyota, along with most other manufacturers insist on building worthless rear seats into a pick up truck's body. For what? This is not a family car! I just need a pickup truck. Then because I've got no other choice but to bite the bullet, paying for extra-seats and two extra doors, with less bed size, I bought the truck. A couple of weeks later, I find out that Toyota has a recall for the defective rear axle. So yes, I now am in the market for a 20 year old Toyota truck, that is a real truck, without the "sissified 4-doors" that only women drive! ...one that is not defective with a crappy driveline! I may wait until Toyota comes out with the "Stout" in 2025, unless it too is the feminized 4-door version, in which case, NO DEAL!

This has to be exaggerated or fake because I don't see any broken down tacomas anywhere or on tow trucks. The Toyota dealer by my house sells about 20 tacomas per week I keep seeing them bring them in and they're gone in about 5 to 10 days Right now the parking lot is almost empty All the cars are pushed to the front this is July 24

Why would anyone buy a truck that is overpriced with engine and transmission failures not to mention replacing a strong V6 and V8 with a turbo L4 because their engineers apparently are not smart enough to design. They created an electric truck and claimed specifications that are borderline fraud. I have owned Toyota trucks for over 20 years to include Tacoma’s and Tundras but I just replaced my old Tundra with a Honda Ridgeline Black Edition and I am very pleased with it to include the V6. I am done with Toyota Trucks they are much too arrogant and absolutely ignore the customer's wants and needs. Over the years when I have complained about issues and I address the executives I always get a call from a woman admin type for the executive office with boiler plate excuses and apologies. Toyota does not care about its customers just the bottom line. They will not rein in their rogue dealers who add on exorbitant markups, fees and addons claiming they have no leverage which is ridiculous. If it is true than Toyota attorneys and management do not know how to write contracts or again just don't care. I am done with Toyota trucks let those with money to throw away or burn buy them. IMHO.

I love that Toyota and Honda will recall their vehicles when there is a "suspected potential" problem. Unlike Ford and others that wait until enough people have died and then are legally forced to do a recall.

Toyota around the world is still the most reliable. The problems all seem to occur in the North American made Toyota products. You RARELY hear an issue with the Hilux or even the Land Cruiser which coincidentally are 100% made in Japan. Toyota USA senior leadership has failed and the modern American Toyota worker basically just goes to work for a pay check. American craftsmanship has been dead for a while. It is a sad commentary on our country who used to make the toughest most reliable products. Now we pump out hot garbage.

The new Tacoma panels are ugly. As bad as new 24's (not able to get over 200,000 miles, needing extensive repair) I would still buy one that has a V8 fuel injected aspirated engine?

Just curious here. How do you know they won't go 200,000 miles or more ? They have only been out a few months.. Yes I agree the panels are ugly in my eyes. But I'm not buying it so it doesn't matter.

@@boston1450 I see your point. I came to this opinion solely based on other RU-vid channels that denote that Toyota took a 4 cylinder engine and placed two turbos on it, which causes the tiny motor to work under high load compared to an aspirated 4 cylinder engine. These turbos in turn will be stressing the life span out of engine. Several channels pointing out that the motor would be lucky to reach 200,000 miles under these conditions without expensive repairs to get even close to those numbers. I’m not an engineer but I own a 2023 Tacoma SR 4 cylinder. Listening to these channels I bought because everything, not just Toyota is going to be crap from now on. I bought a new 1969 Fort LTD with a Windsor engine and was very happy that I got 66,000 mile out of it. I would have never bought a foreign car, but I couldn’t deny how different my Ford was. I just had my first recall on my 2023 Tacoma and I have never had a recall on my 1995 Tacoma which I recently gave to my grandson. I told him although it has 305,000 miles, I believe she should go another 200,000?

*My story followed with two short videos* I'm leasing a 2024 Toyota Tocama "A first timer with Toyota" I wanted that million mile truck. The test drive 😮 no one had to tell me it wasn't a 6 cylinder, you just know 4 cylinder *seen one seen them all* they must have millions of 4 cylinder sitting around to make this crazy move away from 6 cylinder. Keep telling this unhappy story, and maybe they will get smart. It will jump out when you hit down on it, but definitely not good for a 4 cylinder. *Gas mileage* 3 gen. 4 & 6 cylinder got the same mileage around 25 city that's crazy! Well my 2020 F-150 mileage was 25 city and that was great for a big truck "BUT" problems with Ford, you see that was my replacement truck for my 2018 lemon 🍋 Bad Transmission after 500 miles and just two months ago they delivered my new Tocama to my home and picked up the so called #1 truck Ford F-150 that still needed to go in the shop. Here's a short video of my trucks below.
