I personally believe that the pricing is the number one reason, especially if you want a mid-range or upper trim Tacoma. How many people do you think can afford a $1400+ monthly payment? I do not also like the lack of rear A/C vents and how cramped the second row is. Other than that, Toyota Tacoma is a much, much better truck than the previous generation. With this high prices, no one will be able to sell vehicles as they used to. While Toyota has a good customer base that can justify the higher price, but this is up to a point, I think Toyota has crossed that line. I am a Toyota fan, but I would not buy a Tacoma if it was not at least 10k off MSRP for the mid-trim like the TRD-Off road with the premium package, and at least 15k off for the TRD Pro and the other top trim.

I owned a 2007 Tacoma 4x4. What a wonderful truck and it could haul my 6000 lb travel trailer without breaking a sweat. I curse the fool who totaled me out. Also bought a 2008 Tundra 4x4 because I needed its 11000+ towing capacity. That Tundra has been flawless except for needing to replace the serpentine belt tensioner. I’m 78 and expect the Tundra to outlive me and become a family heirloom. Had a current gen Tacoma as a rental a few years back and it was disappointing and would not buy. Been following the rocky history of the V6 Tundra and sketchy omens about the next gen Tacomas and 4Runner and would not buy any of them. Have had the itch for a few years for the 5th gen 4Runner and bought one before end of availability. Love it. I now consider myself a future non-buyer of Toyota trucks. Also hate any brand vehicle with bolt on tablet displays. Thus ends my rant.

When the 2024 was revealed, I was ready to trade mine in. Until I saw a new TRD PRO would cost me MSRP $83,000. With tax, $92,000. I'm keeping my 2011. Toyota can stick it.

If they had taken the Honda V6 and placed in a Tacoma for under $45k they would have had a clear winner. I have a 23' Ridgeline and that engine absolutely rocks, its almost too good as I'vce already been pulled over 3 different times for speeding. But the Ridgeline will never be an offroad vehicle, thus the reason I've kept my Titan. I can't imagine spending over $50k for a 4 cylinder engine.

Don't forget the delivery delays. They were several months late due to EPA certification issues. I was seriously looking at ordering a TRD Off Road. However, using the Web Site build & price app, I couldn't keep it under $50K. If I wanted a bit more it was getting kinda pricey. Various attempts ended up around $53K. Even w/ the pricing craziness lately, buying a moderately configured midsized truck shouldn't water your eyes that badly. The Turbo engine was kind of of a negative. I was driving a 2021 Ranger at the time and I just never learned to love that engine. It was a turd if you caught it off boost. I can't imagine that Toyota would be able to execute it that much better. I hated the indecisive 10 speed as well, but that's another story. So, I ended up buying a 2024 Frontier PRO4x. It's not without it's own issues. My biggest annoyance was the premium package. I had to skip it it because the sunroof steals too much headroom, I'm 6'3". It doesn't have all the fancy off-road gadgetry. Other than that, it's great. especially the nice torquey (non-turbo) V6. FWIW, the mileage is better than I expected - better than the Ranger. Oh, and the price was thousands less than the Toyota. Sure, it's not quite as sophisticated or tech laden, but it's more than sufficient. I'm happy with the choice I made. What's more is that I'm seeing a lot more new (22+) Frontiers running locally than I used to. They were really uncommon before. I think that Toyota's misstep/loss has become Nissan's gain.

@user-fp9rv2bn6f at this point, I don't know what Toyota is thinking. I have zero idea what their detailed engine design specs are. I just know that maximum profit margin at point of sale seems to be their only goal. Very short-sighted. The opposite of kaizen.

$45,000 to $70,000 out-of-door price for a Toyota Tacoma pick up truck? NO THANKS! I'll get a C or E Class Mercedes Benz luxury sedan, or a 3 or 5 series BMW sport sedan instead.

Try and drive a Nissan. You may not go back. Toyota has the same problem as American SUVs. Own the market, make changes no one asked for, charge more for it to go “upmarket”. Then watch the sales go down. Are they aware interest rates make car buying a challenge right now? It’s an unforced error.

You can get a V8 4x4 F150 STX FX4 for 44k folks, that gets better mileage than the turbo 4 offered on the Tacoma. Cheaper insurance too. No brainer to grab the full size with the V8

It's not the Mexicans. It's the management and engineering mantras that go along with moving manufacturing to Mexico. Lowest cost bidder sourcing, they pay their workers squat, and everything, everything is price,price, price. Of course, the MSRP goes up, not down. So much for Toyota quality..... not.

I think the biggest reason is that people are watching what's happening with the other truck into which Toyota out a new turbo engine after a couple years. The longer that goes on the more chance they have of even losing the fanboys.

For those saying “frontier it’s better” are u kidding right ? I mean yes u got the v6 which it’s pretty nice … but Nissan reliability is far from being the best … transmissions sucks … and if u ever had drive a frontier u know that it drives awful … harsh suspension … hard steering … I know this Tacoma it’s not the best … but to me the frontier it’s really bad … only good thing from Nissan it’s GTR …
@brianmola711
@brianmola711 3 дня назад
You’re referring to CVT Nissans. Of which the Frontier isn’t. The Nissan Frontier, Titan, Armada, the Z, GTR, and Pathfinder are great because they have normal automatic transmissions. The rest of the lineup is what you want to avoid. And the steering in the new Frontier is a huge improvement from the old one. Trust me, the Frontier is far less bad than you think.

No one wants a turbo 4 cylinder! The V6 engine is so much more dependable and will last 5 times longer. Democrats are forcing makers to improve mileage across the lineup. Small high winding turbo engines will become the norm.

I went to 3 very big Toyota volume dealers. I found 2 of them. They are selling good here !! This vid is a joke and I don’t even own a Tacoma. lol. If ya look at midsize trucks (and do a build and price) they are all in the price ball park price wise. Get over it. The only one that cheap is the Nissan and it’s cheap for a reason. I have one of them as a long term test vehicle.

BS. Quick way to debunk this video. Go to your local Toyota dealer and ask to buy a Tacoma TRD Pro. You won’t be able to get one. They are on back order. The SR5 may get be available, but the Hybrids will be gone as they come in. Tacomas are still the most popular. But nice try.

The 2024 Tacoma is too over-priced. I will NOT pay $65,000 for a new Tacoma! That was the price I got from my local Toyota dealership, for the truck I wanted. I say hey TOYOTA, Shove your new TACOMA up your Mexican factory Tacoma pie-hole! I was a completely loyal Toyota buyer since 1985. NO MORE Toyota trucks for me! If my local Toyota dealership is trying to screw me on a new Toyota Tacoma, then I say "screw-you Toyota!" NO MORE! I will not be taken advantage of by Toyota.
