I tried the cable method, and I found it easier to just add another set of jack stands under for safety and then take a long flat edge screw driver with a 3 pound hammer and Tap the CV out from under the vehicle on the slotted edges on the CV. Worked well to get it back in as well. Just tap, tap tap and spin the CV a little and Tap some more to overcome the Clip on the axle. I would also replace the seal while you are in there, but this taco was brand new so maybe not needed for this job.

Dude. I just wanted to say thank you so much and you’re a genius, I couldn’t find a slide, hammer or CV attachment in the stores I had locally, but I could find steel rope a dead blow, and some connectors created one of those styles slide hammer is that you did, and it worked great. Would not have gotten it without you. Thank you.

I have a 2015 tacoma 4wd, i had lifted the front 1 3/4'' in front with bilstein shocks and noticed a roaring noise coming from front diff. Replaced needle bearing with bushing from ECGS and it solved the problem. Also front end would shimmy around 55 mph. Solved that problem also. Definately worth it and did it myself.

I actually took a day off and drove from Northern Virginia to NC to have ECGS actually perform the change with their bushing. Great folks, cost me less than $350 to have them perform that, including bushing, and made sure my rear axle was within spec. 3 degree shim added. Would highly recommend them if able to make the drive. Most professional company. I have 2018 Tacoma with 3 inch OME lift

Had to do the same on my 4WD Tacoma. I took it to 4 wheel parts to have a 3" lift installed. Afterwards I had the famous intermittent vibration. They knew about it but didn't know how to fix it. After extensive research and watching this video I replaced the driver side needle bearing with the ECGS bushing. You would've thought that a big company like 4 wheel parts would've had the wherewithal to figure it out. Unfortunately not 🤦

Either then or when you are changing your front diff oil.
@elurb7231
@elurb7231 4 года назад
You don't have like puller for the CV? With as often as the front has to come apart it's worth the 40-60€ investment. Also, prying on that part of the CV can bend the dust shield that interfaces with the oil seal.

A few things: 1. My extractor tool nut size was 19 not 22mm 2. The tie rod puller, 35 mm socket, 250lb torque wrench can be rented from AutoZone (Advance Auto has wrench and tie rod kit but way more expensive as you have to rent a whole kit).

Just bought a 2017 Tacoma Sport last month, factory certified pre owned. People kept commenting that my truck looked higher up, so I took a look and to my surprise the previous owner must have put a spacer/leveling kit on it, maybe 2” in the front and 1” rear. Anyways, I just recently started noticing this weird oscillating groaning vibration coming through the wheel and the floor. It’s subtle, so I’m sure it was there the whole time, just took me a while to notice it. After reading about needle bearings, etc. I tried putting it into 4H to see if it went away and it does. Will removing the lift kit spacers and returning the truck to stock fix the vibration? I’ve read some on the Tacoma forum where removing the lift corrected the issue. I don’t even want a lift on my truck, prefer it stock. I’m going to call the dealer where I purchased it today. They did not disclose that the truck was lifted (perhaps they didn’t know) because I probably wouldn’t have bought it had I known. Perhaps I can make a case for returning it. I’ve had it less than a month. I just don’t want to get in a drawn out song and dance with the service dept trying to diagnose and fix the issue. This is my work truck, I just need a truck that works.
@Tacomaholic
@Tacomaholic 4 года назад
Removing the lift should help correct, if not outright eliminate, those vibes associated with the needle bearing.
@carbonking53
@carbonking53 2 года назад
I've got a 2020 4Runner ORP with a 3 ish inch lift with aftermarket UCA's with 17K miles on the truck. Did the lift about 12k miles ago and just last week started to get a strange oscillating/harmonic like hum and mild vibration most noticeable at 40-50 mph on smooth pavement. It comes and goes in a reoccurring cycle. No wheel shimmy or shake, but noticeable through the steering column, floorboard, and seat of my pants. I'm thinking this needle bearing issue may be the culprit. Time to do some deeper investigating and get this ECGS busing swap done if need be.

One more question. On my 2008 Toyota tacoma sport, my first lift kit was 3 inches in the front and 2 inches in the rear. Then I purchased an ARB winch bumper. Then I put blisten 5100 adjustable struts to 4 inch front and 3 inch in the rear. Now I've noticed that the front differential needs to be adjusted lower. To first align it, you just get it square with the hole, so it's nice and straight. Then once it's started you can break out the long pipe. As far as driving it in, there's a little metal ridge in there. You hit it flush with that. I recommend supplementing these instructions with the ECGS install instructions, for a complete picture with all the details and tips.

I'm not sure if it's covered under warranty, but a quick way to see if you need the ECGS bushing is if you feel vibes in your truck to switch it into 4hi while going about 45 mph on a straight road, if the vibes instantly go away then you need the ECGS bushing.

Pop it into 4hi next time it shakes like that if you are on a straight road and going less than 65mph. If the shake instantly goes away then you need to replace the needle bearing with the ECGS clamshell one as seen in this vid.

You say "if you put it in 4wd and you still have the vibe, then it's PROBABLY something else". @Tacomaholic
@Tacomaholic 3 года назад
From what I've heard if the vibe goes away when you put it into 4hi then the needle bearing is the issue. Does it feel like you have any vibrations coming from the middle or rear of the truck?
@jyj3843
@jyj3843 3 года назад
@@Tacomaholic No it doesn't, it really all feels and sounds like it's up front. I've heard however about how people have sworn the noise was coming from up front but it was the wheel hub/bearings in the rear (the sound traveled). I'm going to check the rear by spinning for bearing sound and checking the tires for play when lifted. But yeah I'm a little stumped then. I was really hoping that needle bearing could act up in a variety of ways including mine (vibes at all times after about 20mph) so that the clamshell would be the fix.
