The Toyota Yaris Cross feeds into our insatiable desire for the Crossover, which if you don’t know is a car that is not quite a car, not quite SUV, but rather somewhere in the middle. The latest Yaris has been lauded by customers and critics alike for its dramatic improvement from plucky nun-mobile to a class-leading supermini. It was the 3rd most popular car in Ireland in 2021 and it's been a while since a supermini was that popular. It is also the reigning Car of the Year in Europe. So you would forgive Toyota for wanting to use the leftovers from this particularly successful recipe to make a crowd-pleasing Crossover.

The high rev sound comment is funny. When i was test driving it, people did look at me like I didn't know how to drive. It sounds like an angry lawnmower.

Execellent review! "Gameification" is a perfect definition for this vehicle. I own a Yaris Cross it is now 2 months and that is precisely what I feel when driving it.

Thanks for this review, glad you referred to my creaky hips because the high seating position is appealing……after test driving this I felt it was a quality vehicle with a good elevated driving position with super fuel economy. I didn’t appreciate the middle door pillar driver’s side blind spot although it comes with blind-spot detection also, getting in and out of the rear seats was a real struggle. Saying all that it’s definitely on my short list but, want to check out the Ford Puma before deciding……Great review 👍

Cvt hunts for gears where firstly it’s not a cvt but only a named like that and secondly there aren’t any gears at all. It’s one gear eCVT transaxle.

I collect mine tomorrow so obviously like the car but have you actually tried to put a child seat in the back? My kids are grown up so not an issue but I wouldn’t want to put kiddie seats in.

Hi there, you might be able to help me? I am currently looking to buy a new car that is fuel efficient and reliable which the Yaris Cross certainly is. I have found that salespeople don’t release how many kilometres a car can go on a single tank of fuel? I know that the Yaris Cross has a fuel tank capacity of 36 litres but how many kilometres can it travel on a single tank of petrol? When you drove this car, did you remember how many kilometres you got out of a single tank of fuel?

Hi Anthony. Good question. He actually did make a note of it after filming. Paddy managed 3.7 litres per 100km over a test route he did. But of course it really depends on driving style and road conditions so you might not hit that figure regularly. If cost of driving is important, a similarly sized EV will be much more efficient than that. Thanks for the comment!
