Toyota Yaris hatchback review - CarBuyer 

Mt wife used to have one of this, it's been working for us like a gem.... bullit proof quality, easy on fuel and services, easy to park in narrow streets, and high resale value, yes it is a little boring to drive, for its price , what more do you want from it.....

I use to own a Yaris before i upgraded to the Avensis and although the interior materials aren't on the same level of a VW (plastic rather than rubberized surfaces), the fit and finish was second to none. It was incredibly reliable, economical and drove well and the customer service was spot on. If i ever went back to a smaller car the Yaris would definitely be one to look at.

Feel free to smash the wheel how many times you like, you'll not deploy the airbag doing that, in fact there are sensors on the front of the vehicle that trigger the airbag when there is a collision.

My Dad has a Toyota Yaris 1.33 TR 5dr in blue and I have to say it is excellent, although the door cards can scratch quite easily, the rest of the car is brilliant. The engine feels quite powerful on the flat and it is very reliable.It has never broken down other than the odd battery going flat. Fantastic car well done Toyota

My 2005 Yaris has comfortable suspension, it's why I bought it. Absorbs the lumps and bumps beautifully. I wouldn't try to throw it around a corner though.

As someone who owns a Mazda2 (which we bought to replace a previous generation Yaris), I would say the Yaris is overall the better buy. The Mazda2 is definitely more fun to drive, but taking everything into consideration (as this review has pointed out), this is the better car. The Yaris is definitely more economical on fuel. The Mazda2 also suffers the same negative points: blind spot at the A pillar and the ride in the Mazda2 is even worse (as a result of the 'sporty' handling)!

I bought a new shape yaris 3 days ago on a 61 plate, I looooove this car, its a cute metallic red and we named the car "Christmas", would recommend it to anyone

Hi Matt, when doing a turn in the road, try taking the turns off before you come to a stop. That way you wont need to force the wheels round when stationery, it will give you a tighter turning circle, its faster and it looks good. Good review as always.

I've had one of these for years now. It never goes wrong. It starts, it stops, it passes the annual mot test with flying colours. It's good on fuel and cheap for tax. I have the 1.3 and whilst no dragster it's quick enough and sounds surprisingly good accelerating. It's just an deal commuter car.

I have the Toyota Yaris 2012 red it’s very comfy and good I recommend

My gf has the 07 1.8 yaris SR and swapped it out today for a top spec 2012 1.33 yaris. I have to say, with part leather, soft touch finishing, light steering, refinement and 6 gears to choose from, plus all the equipment. Its a fantastic little car overall. It's nimble In the corners too but frankly it's not as fun to drive as my fiesta. It's better looking than the old car and as for a camera on a small car, have you seen the parking skills of some people? They need all the help they can get!

The Australian version uses the much older 1.5VVTi which develops ~105bhp. The UK version has the newer and much cleaner 1.33VVTi which develops ~100bhp, so it is hardly "much more powerful" and certainly not quieter. The UK version is actually faster to 60mph because it's a manual 6 speed gearbox. Granted the auto box in the Aus version is a proper auto box and not a CVT. The 6.1"screen + 6 speakers is standard on all but the base model, although GPS is optional. Do you get the Hybrid version?

I like the way the car looks, I must be the odd one. lol

The Yaris for the US gets a false boot floor so the cargo area is completely flat when you fold down the seats. Maybe it's optional since I see the mounting points for it in the video. Also, the stereo featured in the review is much nicer than the ones we get in the states.

Does anyone have any good recommendations for a first car?? A smaller engine would be preferable as its cheaper for insurance, I was thinking about the Yaris but i'm not sure, any thoughts?

I just bought a 2015 diesel model even though its the lowest trim in terms of options im quite impressed on how nimble and quick it is, its gotta be that hugh torque diesel engine doing that

You must know what your priorities are when buying a car. For me the Yaris ticks all my boxes. Cheap. Reliable. Low maintenance costs. Great on gas. Easy and fun to drive. Always a parking space. Extremely practical. The perfect car does not exist but it’s hard to go wrong with a Yaris. The BEST car I ever owned!

wont fail for crossing your hands as he was still in control of the steering however there was lots of "dry steering" which would have a driving fault noted.

I don't think Mat can make the airbag deploy by beating the steering wheel. As far as I know, the explosive charge inside the airbag unit is only ignited by an electronic control unit, when it detects an impact on the vehicle... Any thoughts?

Does the Honda Fit have reversing camera and Bluetooth?

The Air bag won't deploy. Except if the front makes some decent contact.

Yeah agreed even the 2017 model feels the same. Your hands needs to be constantly on the steering wheel & a bit jiggly too.

I got the 2007 model, this one has a bigger bum, and more boot space.But it's strange, the rear seats don't recline like the old one, there is less storage dash compartment.I think buyers should go with kia and hyundai.They are hitting the right notes with what buyers want.Except maybe the price tag it's getting up there.

I think the face lifted model of the first generation Yaris (2003 - 53 plate to 2005 ish model) was the best looking and they started to get uglier afterwards, with the latest one being the most ugly :P

Why road are not blamed for the ride quality. i live in midlands most of the road are patched repaired it not car fault. i own similar diesel and did 35k miles in 5 months. and i would say this is the best car in its class. and fast as well.

Hi Mat, I was waiting your review for this car. It's too bad you still consider this interior as cheap (you didn't same comment for old version due to non-soft touch Interior Panel).

the 1.3 is perfect for city driving and parking but struggles on highways and uphills. the big plastic dash is terrible and retain heat even in winter, AC cannot cool the car as a result.

Yes, it does look much better, shame about the dash design, doesn't look well thought out :o(
