A good and realistic review, thanks! I'd just like to point out that you drove in B-mode,which is meant for regenerative braking down steeper hills rather than D-mode which is better for just tootling around and normal driving. I have the September 2022 version and regularly get a range of over 450-500 miles per tankful through mixed driving conditions, city, countryside and motorway (which eats into the range). Though I live in an urban area with a lot of hills I often get over 80 mpg if my journeys are mostly urban, sometimes comfortably over 100 mpg. The last time I got such fuel economy was on my 49 cc Honda Express (3 hp?) moped that I had as a youngster! It's a superb car to drive.

It really is a great looking car - never thought I’d say that for a Yaris!

I liked the sportier mk1 yaris, the new one does look great though. Interior is fab, really practical for the size.

Perfect video Ed - I know how hard this video was to put together since u lost some of the footage because the files corrupted but still managed to get everything across, love the Yaris and thanks to Toyota for lending you the car

Nice video Eddie. Out of its rivals I think the Yaris is by far the best on styling, Toyota have got it spot on with the Yaris.

Thanks Jack 🙌🏻. Yeah it looks better than the rest, I think Toyota have got styling across all their cars at the moment spot on 👌🏻. Need to get your Evo featured on the Channel pal 👍.

An interesting review. I’m still running the previous model, and considering replacing it soon. Incidentally, in the “Driving” footage it appears that you were using “B” mode all the time. Normally, it’s only used for long and/or steep descents, and not on that type of road. It’s not compatible with cruise control either. In “D” it will make best use of regeneration before using the brake pads (which is why they last a long time).

I used to have the previous model of the Yaris but the new model is a very different car as it drives much better and even more economical.

@ John Keepin Until the summer of 2021, we drove the previous model and considered replacing it with the new Yaris Hybrid. Until we took a good look in the showroom at our dealer and discovered that the new Yaris is not exactly a practical car. We recommend watching this video from Eddie: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-w29yEflp7-o.html and what is more important: also visit a Honda dealer and take a good look 🧐. Not just the exterior... 🤭 Take both, the Yaris and the Jazz, for an extensive test drive. Only then decide... Can be surprising...😲 PS Hopefully our advice won't be too late...

@@dickschuurman4684 Since I wrote my comment above, I did actually replace my older Yaris with one of the new ones, made in November last year. It’s working out well, and although it’s a similar size, it’s quite different. In particular, the power to weight is a fair bit more, and it’s quieter at higher speeds, and a bit more efficient. Useful gadgets like radar cruise control assistance and so on as well.

Thanks for the fine test video, Ed! Eleven months ago we were very enthusiastic about the new Yaris Hybrid and planned to replace our then four and a half year old Yaris Hybrid with this new one in the summer. This choice seemed like a no-brainer! Until we had a proper look in the showroom at our dealer and found out that the new Yaris is not exactly a practical car. Really a pity because we really were satisfied with our Yaris and liked what the new one looked like. It is a pity that your video doesn't show how little the rear doors open. They only open very limited. I would say a crack... Moreover: with the driver seat arranged for me (just over 6 ft. long legs) and when I squeezed myself in through that crack, I'm poking in the front seat with my knees.... No leg space at all, you still have an inch or so, me not at all ... Don't even think about installing a child seat through those doors and let's better not talk about than getting a kid in that chair... 😠 Than we started to consider. What about the new Honda Jazz Hybrid? We also watched some videos, including the one in which you tested the Jazz. Among other things, we compared the space in the back of the Yaris in this video (from 8:54) with what it looks like in the video where you tested the Jazz: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-w29yEflp7-o.html at 6: 24 (but maybe better watch from beginning till the end...😉) You see how wide the doors open en how much space one has in the back? We decided to take both for an extensive test drive. Anyone facing such a problematic choice should! And discover that good looks don't mean "the best". Here the winner was clearly the Jazz: quieter, more comfortable, much better visibility, more space and "sense of space" because of the light interior and the big windows. Next to this the materials in the interior of the Jazz also gave a better "quality impression". And let's better not talk about how practical the Jazz is compared to the Yaris.... If you compare the reviews, it is 100% clear that they confirm what we discovered during the test drives. And next to what I wrote here we concluded that of these two small hybrids, only the Jazz is suitable as a family car, the Yaris (unfortunately) hardly or better: not! You can probably guess which car now is the successor of our Yaris... Correct!!! For more than 5 months we have been driving with great pleasure and satisfaction in that spacious, comfortable and economical Jazz EX! (with 2 x USB charger in the back).

Toyota owner for 25 years my Corolla is 15 years old and never failed MOT. I need to down size so looked at this due to its good looks and style for a small car, was just disappointed with some of the metalwork a bit thin and the doors sound very tinny when opened and closed which is not good at this price.

Thanks for your comment Steve. I'm a Toyota man too, had a 7seat corolla verso for 3yrs and currently have a 2012 Toyota verso, similar to you with reliability and mot. I had the Yaris for 4 hours and if im honest I never noticed the doors being tinny when opened and closed. I found the build quality pretty good for a small hatchback. Like most hybrids they are more expensive. It is a good looking little thing though isn't it. Have you viewed one?

@@pittmotoring one of my neighbours recently bought one and I had a sit in it just to get an idea. Probably most cars in this class have that lighter weight to the doors and bodywork I am so used to how solid my Corolla feels., it's my 2nd Corolla the first one I had 12 years, also I have not had the chance to compare to other makes but it would be hard to move away from Toyota after 25 years of trouble free Motoring no breakdowns and very little garage work compared to friends cars.

Really informative video Eddie, considering you lost those files. I was surprised it was getting 70mpg, that’s impressive! I like the Yaris and it's quite a sporty looking supermini. The only downside of the looks is from a distance, I sometimes think it's a GR Yaris and get excited - haha!

I like your friendly northern style but respectfully suggest you need to cull as here and there you repeat yourself. Less is more... I wish you had taken a motorway run as I'd have liked your observations regarding what many reviewers complain about, viz wind noise and tyre roar in this scenario. Apparently both are excessive. I'd be most interested to hear from owners on this subject if any of you care to comment, please. I've ordered a top spec Mazda replica - forgot to say that I think the exterior design is stunningly beautiful from all angles - but can't forgive the manufacurer for producing a car sans satnav as I loathe the prospect of faffing around with phone cable connection etc. Grrrrrrrr!

Hi David, thank you for taking the time to watch my review. I really appreciate it. Yes, still new to the whole presenting and what not, hopefully over time I am improving with presenting but also the scripting so I don't repeat myself 😅. I would have liked to have got it out on the dual carriageways/motorways but with the demonstrators I have access to, I have a limited time frame, this day in particular I only had the yaris for 2-3 hours for everything I needed to do. Filming the review, clips and also travelling to where I'd chosen to film as well as photos for the dealership also. As the channel is growing I will hopefully be able to gain access to press cars from the manufacturers directly, this will give me more time to film the content and spend more time testing the car in different scenarios.

The infotainment, sat nav and the likes of phone connection with apple car play and android auto can be a faff at times but I've found toyotas very good from a usability stand point, pretty straight forward. As for a yaris/ mazda 2. They are a great looking car, Toyota really nailed the styling for me. I found access into the rear a little tight, I'm a big lad who likes food though 😂.

@@pittmotoring Thanks for your interesting reply. In passing yesterday I cancelled my order for a brand new Yaris clone, viz a Mazda 2 Hybrid, thanks to another review and an owner alerting me to a factor that could have caused me untold grief. Apparently this car has an unusually small 12 volt battery. If, as in my case, a car is used infrequently it can result in the vehicle not starting. I was beyond appalled at Toyota's 'answer' to the problem when they advised that one should buy a slow trickle charger. Totally but totally unacceptable in my book. I've written to Toyota to tell them that the twin scénarios has cost them my custom. Thank the gods that my research uncovered the phenomemen before I parted with my wonga.
