You have heard wired is better than WiFi for connecting your gear. The issue your WiFi router only has so many ports for you to use. Enter the TP-Link 5 Port Gigabit Ethernet Network Switch (TL-SG105) a cheap, simple 5 port gigabit switch that is completely plug and play. Great for home and small business use. If you want to know more you will need to watch.

I had a problem with my Vodaphone 5g wifi, I have 1 gigabit but xbox and laptop were only getting 230 to 280 Mbps, I wired direct and got 930 to 940 Mbps across all devices. I have 4 ports on my router that are already wired to rooms and devices, but seeing this I will now be able to wire up every room in the house, and If it does drop a little , who cares? at 900 Mbps I could drop 200Mbps and still be getting more than enough, but more importantly with this little switch I will be getting to use the Internet Bandwith that I have already paid for in each room . Great video .

Hi. The "Link/Act" text on the fifth port means Link/Activity, and not Link/Account, and it refers to the indicator led on all the ports. It's only placed on top of port5 because of lack of space above the other ports

Sorry for bumping this comment but does that mean the 5th port is totally equal to other ones unlike what's being said in the video?
3 года назад
It functions like all the others. By convention, it is the one you use for uplink. I'm not sure if this has more capacity (it is a separate module after all), and therefore better suited for uplink. The module seperation is likely just because the port modules comes in 4-port and 1-port configurations. You'll see this in any switch and router
@DlcEnergy
@DlcEnergy Год назад
Link = Solid Activity = Flashing They just so happen to put it over the last port's led. And the last port isn't joined with the rest since they're not grouped in 5's. All the ports are equal. It just appears to stand out because of these reasons.

I'll then switch the cable from one device to another and still, only the PC is slow but the Mac and PS5 are getting all the juice, so that rules out the cables being the issue. "Link Account port" LOL. that is just the label of all the LEDs (link/activity). On a domestic unmanaged switch all ports are the same, you just create the habit to use the first or last port to use as uplink to a router, sort of mimicking what you do on an enterprise switch that usually uses the last port as uplink, some models even have a separate uplink port.

As long as one of the nodes you are trying to use this with has an open LAN port on the back you can use this with it.

Can you daisy chain 2 of these without issue? I want to use one next to the router and then have a long run of cable to another room. In the other room I want a second switch
@Wanderer001_Reviews

You can, but there maybe a loss of speed depending on how far that cable has to travel to the other room.

Thanks for the helpful video. We just purchased this because our Wi-Fi connection is very slow (45mbps) through our Comcast router, which is surprisingly supposed to be 1.3gbps. When connecting directly from the router to this computer (about 75 feet on cat7) I will get around 480-500mbps, but when the router is connected through this Hub the speed is only around 200mbps and I just do not understand why? All cables are brand new cat7 and are fully capable of handling up to 10 Gbps.

If the unit is controlled by your ISP they may not want you to be able to use your own stuff so they could be slowing things down.

Idk if you’re here but my house already has a router but my room is too far to connect an ethernet cord to my laptop, would I be able to buy this to be able to increase my ping? How would it work?
@Wanderer001_Reviews
@Wanderer001_Reviews 2 года назад
Well this would still connect to your computer via either net. It plugs into your router to give you more ports, then you would attache something to this box via either net. Sound like you might do better with a wifi mesh network. If you did that you could have one of the mesh nodes in your room and run either net right off of that.

Hi, I had a question. Is this good for a mining rig? My modem has only 2 slots for ethernet, both are being used already. Also, how does it work if it isn't connecting to the modem? Sorry if thats a silly question.
@Wanderer001_Reviews

Can not say for sure never tested it for that. Handles gaming fine so I would imagine mining would not be an issue.

Does it split the bandwidth? I have 1gbit cat6 cable, and 480mbps service, but i want to plug it in to the switch and then to my 2 consoles and smart tv
@Wanderer001_Reviews

It's not quite as cut-and-dry as just splitting bandwidth. It will send more to the device that is requesting more.

Hello, I would like to kindly ask. I've purchased Switch TP-Link TL-SG105 5 port, Gigabit, and used it as an extension/multiplication of wired ethernet connection. The issue is that IPTV is not working while connected via the switch. To elaborate, when the set-top box is connected directly from the router, works without any problem. When I connect this switch to the router and then connect the set-top box from the switch, IPTV is not working. It has happened a few times that IPTV worked while connected via this switch, but went I turned off the tv in the evening and turned it back on in the following morning, it was not working again. Any thoughts? Thank you in advance.
@Wanderer001_Reviews

This might sound odd but what type of CAT cable do you have going to your IPTV box? I did find that the switch could be a little finicky with types of cables.

Noobie question here. My cable modem from my ISP has 2 ethernet ports (A and B) at the back. Is it perfectly fine for my desktop pc to directly connect to ethernet port A and have my wifi router to occupy ethernet port B? what are the implications, pros and cons of this setup? thanks in advance for your response.
@Wanderer001_Reviews
@Wanderer001_Reviews 4 года назад
So in a set up like mine where my modem only as 2 port out that is connected to my wifi router I would have a desk top plugged into my wifi router. The more things that you run wired to your wifi router the faster you run out of plugs. This switch lets you add more wired connections should you run out of them.
@mikecui626

@@Wanderer001_Reviews thank you for responding. but is it also fine for me to bypass my wifi router and connect my desktop straight to the modem? (since there are 2 ethernet ports at the back of my modem)

Thank you for the video. I was really puzzled though about your findings on the performance tests you ran. I mean, I would expect there to be some impact on adding a switch to the mix, but the drop from 219Mbps to 166Mbps seems way too much. That's a loss of roughly 25%! Are you sure one of the cables used in your test was in perfect working condition? Thank you.
