Great review and thanks!! Unfortunately (@12:14) as Amazon representatives has told us, this feature (replacement or refund any time meanwhile 2 years ) has stopped since June 2023. This feature is only for the first 30 days. We should proceed with repair option... (Prime member here)

Right, I implied that it was if you had issues on setup. They obviously can't warranty things. Especially not long term. I've seen them do as long as 90 days, especially if it was a gift.

Hi Grant, thanks for the video. Can I add my WiFi extender (using ethernet cable) into the desktop switch? So my 1st port on the switch will have the ethernet cable coming from the router; 2nd port will be ethernet cable coming from my PC; 3rd port will be ethernet cable coming from my WiFi extender. Will this setup work? Last question, is when connecting to desktop switch, do you lose internet speed?
@GrantButler
@GrantButler 28 дней назад
@AxomeV10 so... yes, sorta. It will work as a splitter & with an extender. As for speed, it depends on your provider's connection and your router. With this splitter as long as your internet is 1,000mb/s or LESS then you shouldn't notice a difference
@Djordymans
@Djordymans Месяц назад
i have one of them. and randomly the ethernet input connection becomes orange meaning it gives a max of 100mb. with 2 setups connected to it this becomes a problem. but when i just quickly unplug and plug the cable in it goes instantly back to the 900+ we normaly get. do you maybe know what the reason could be for it going to orange randomly?

Why does my network "does not have a valid IP configuration" after connecting the ISP wire into the Switch and then from Switch to my PC with another ethernet cable? Please, can you help me with this? Edit: I don't use a router. It's just Switch and PC
@GrantButler
@GrantButler 2 месяца назад
That's because this device doesn't manage IP addresses. You need a Router or a Gateway to do that. This device works solely as a splitter. Just like your home has a circuit breaker panel to take what's coming from the power company before you can use it at a wall outlet. The breaker panel is like a router or gateway that takes what comes from your ISP and makes it usable. This switch is more like a power strip. You plug it into one outlet, and it makes it multiple. You still need something to break down what's coming in to something safe/usable. I hope this helps

Great Video thank you for posting. Grant, I am in my 80s and not very good, though I do try, with modern day technology maybe you may be able to comment on my issue. I have the following - Hikvision NVR DS-7600 Series running H.VIEW CCTV Cameras with Apple imacOS. I wish to add a new camera to my system and with the camera being of the manual set up and not plug and play type, I have to change the IP address to suit my system. Could I use the TP-Link Port Network Switch to change the IP Address? Thank you
@GrantButler
@GrantButler 2 месяца назад
I'm not sure about the details around your cameras IP setup. If IP is controlled in the camera or from the main router or hub and the camera also provides it's own power it might work. If I remember right, your cameras get their power from the network cables. This switch does not provide power over ethernet. Meaning that it would not work. Also, this is not a "managed switch" meaning it can't control or assign IP addresses. Hope this information helps
@robertmaitland8728
@robertmaitland8728 2 месяца назад
@@GrantButler Many thanks for your very kind reply to my issue. You are correct in saying that the CCTV Cameras get their power from the NVR itself and that the TP-Link does not have power itself. From my limited knowledge I do belie that TP-Link do have a switch that gives power the TL-SG 105 PE, I may have picked this information up wrongly not sure Grant. Kind regards.
@GrantButler
@GrantButler 2 месяца назад
@robertmaitland8728 yes there are ones thay offer "POE" power over ethernet. That is likely the type you should try.

Probably a dumb question, but I have an outside office where I have both a PC and mac set up and one ethernet port in the room. If I used this and plugged both pc and mac in, would I be able to simultaneously connect them to the internet? As it's called a 'switch' it makes me think that you have to swap between them meaning only one machine would be online at a time? Or am I getting that wrong?
@GrantButler
@GrantButler Год назад
Despite the name, it's not like a light switch. It's more like a splitter. Anything plugged in will have access to the internet at the same time. You shouldn't have any issues running everything at the same time.

Will this switch work WITHOUT a router? I have 1 ethernet jack in my son's dorm room. Can I connect that jack to the switch with an ethernet cable into 1 port and all the rest of his devices (Xbox, laptop) to the other ports with separate ethernet cables?
@GrantButler
@GrantButler Год назад
If that Ethernet port is active (you can plug it into a device & it connects to the internet), YES. It's basically a splitter.

Grant.. by the way … the instructions are terrible… the switch doesn’t have a marker saying where to put the Ethernet cord in .. you put it on port 1 .. which assumes is input …but it’s not explicitly said to do that on instructions … bought them but have not used it yet… you sure it’s not wireless connectivity? Best way to test it would be to disconnect router/modem and see if other equipment still works 😳
@GrantButler
@GrantButler 3 месяца назад
You plug in a cable with internet connection into any port, and will feed internet in the other ports automatically. This device only works like splitter. Any devices plugged into it after it's disconnected from your router/modem will still be connected, but won't have internet access

Great video, thanks for uploading. Quick question, you did a speed test and it was roughly 600Mbps download but you said you pay for 1GB. Would you not expect this to achieve the maximum speed given it’s wired? I’m thinking of buying this but would hope to get the full 1GB. Thanks in advance.
@GrantButler
@GrantButler 9 месяцев назад
It all depends on your internet service provider. I've never seen actual Gig speeds, that comes down to the service provider (whoever your get your internet from). However this should support up to 1gb. I was mostly just showing that Its much faster than the 60Mbps I was getting over wifi
@dane_pow
@dane_pow 9 месяцев назад
@@GrantButler Thanks. In the UK I pay for BT900 which as you can imagine, gets me 900Mbps download speeds. Wired through a cat 6a ethernet cable I generally get that on my PS5, PC and laptop. Sometimes it may drop to 850 or so but in generally it's pretty solid. I like the look of this I'll be honest due to my last switch maxing out at 100Mbps I'd very much like to get the maximum speed to all devices. Thanks for getting back to me anyway.

Hey was hoping you could help me but I have an Eero mesh Wi-Fi system set up in my house and currently get around 500 to 600 Mbps but would like to increase that to a gigabit, will installing this device to my router on the first floor allow me to have a gigabit on my second floor while using my laptop for 3-D modeling?
@GrantButler
@GrantButler 8 месяцев назад
No, if you want those speeds you need to be hardwired to your router. You can use this in the middle if you don't have enough Ethernet ports.

Will this splitter also works when I put before modem. I want connection going to router into multiple Ethernet ports
@GrantButler
@GrantButler Год назад
It only works if connected via Ethernet. A modem is typically connected via a coax cable. However, if it's between your modem & a router, anything on the router will likely be on a separate network, but they all should all be able to access the internet if your modem is connected
