Thanks for the video, great tip to keep the satellites next to the main in setup. I bought 3 individual decos, about too set them up. Also like the advanced settings menu, visible on screen, and your pace.

Just set up the XE75 Pro last night. I have ethernet backhaul on my 2 satellites and it was truly plug and play. Installed the main node at my cable modem, did the set up, and then simply plugged in/cabled up the 2 satellites and they were running in just a minute or two. So far I am really impressed! Upgraded from the original Google Mesh system, and I am seeing an improvement already.

I just upgraded to this and get more than double the speed at the remote locations of the house now. What I really liked was that I already had an older Deco mesh in place and the deco app has a feature to replace main unit. I was able to use this feature to replace the older main unit with the new one. Works a treat and is fully transparent to the devices, they just stay connected. Amazing.

I purchased this a week or so ago. My modem connected to one deco is on the first floor (far right) of the house. I placed the second one on the upstairs middle of hallway (about 50 feet) from the first to reach my mancave/office desk top computer and fire stick. Now my speed numbers are much more than enough all over the house (2500 square feet) to include front and back yards. I have no idea how I selected the right router for my needs. 😂 Mike, this has got to be the best video I’ve seen on the subject. Thanks.😊

Brilliant informative video. (Your camera is fantastic quality too) just what I was looking for, I've got the orbi system WiFi 6, I think the same you had. I am getting fantastic speeds in all rooms to be fair, 1 orbi router and 3 satellites. Waiting for delivery today, of this ex75 pro, only 3 nodes though so shall see how it goes! Can probably get most of my money back on the orbis anyway. Be good to have the 2.5g port and WiFi 6e instead of 6. Shall see how it goes! Thanks for the video.

I just upgraded to the Deco from the Orbi about a month ago. I didn't set up all three pods next to each other as you said in this video, but placed them in their current spots and then plugged them in and set them up. you think I should delete the two pods, plug them in next to the router pod and then reset them up, again? I am paying for 1G of fioptics of speed, only getting about 230 even with a cat 8 ethernet cable upgrade from the ISP stock cable. I was also going to purchase more pods to cover the entire house and spread to the signal, think the is a good idea?

I bought this system yesterday and then I had a little buyers remorse when I was able to make my husbands TV totally wifi, and hook the current TP-Link router to the cable we had run in the attic, which gave my daughters computer more speed. Couldn't cancel it, so now I can't wait for it to come in. Question? We just had the AT&T internet upgraded to fiber. Can I connect one of the units to the current router/modem to set up and then move it into the next room via ethernet cable? When we moved here 20 yrs ago, we ran ethernet cable in the attic across the house and down the wall, should I hook the 2nd unit to the ethernet in that room or just leave it wifi. We are getting pretty decent speeds with fiber but my daughter's room is the furthest room dead slow spot. She is taking online college classes and does gaming. So she needs the speed to succeed. Thanks for the recommendation.
@mikedropstech
@mikedropstech Год назад
Not sure I’m fully following but if I understand you correctly yes, you can set it up and then move it afterwards and you should be fine. Just remember if your Ethernet is old it could be slower speeds like 10mbps or 100mbps. If that’s the case that will limit your Wi-Fi speeds so bear that in mind!

Thanks, I finally got it all setup and super fast. It wouldn't let me install with the same name but it worked out anyway, with a quick test of all the devices that we had hooked to it. I’m confused if this xe75pro can be setup with the xfinity gateway. How do I set it up to connect to the Gateway? My internet comes in via internet cable. In the tp-link app setup instructions it says to turn off the modem & take out the battery out! This stopped me dead in my tracks! I can’t mess up the internet because my wife works at home. Her computer is wired in to the gateway. I was using the Google WiFi mesh but that isn’t setting up at all. I wonder if you can help me on this one?How do I set the TP-Link XE75Pro up to connect to the Xfinity Gateway?

Has anyone had any issues with decreased speed on these? Recently purchased this system and have 1gig down and up. I set this up and as I did so, I decided to run a test being the sole device on the main (and only hooked up) node. I would only get ~400mbps down and got my full upload speed. After hooking up the other nodes and adding other devices, I got the same results. I've used different cables, turned off Qos, disabled the different frequencies and same results. Through different tests, it shows that the router (main node) is bringing in my full speeds, but only putting out about half the download..

Hi Mike. I just need to unravel one question that I haven't seen anyone mention. I have several wifi devices on my main home level and a PC in my basement in my office using an ethernet cable to the cable company router. If I plug that cable into the TP base t,hat I just plugged into the cable company router, will that still give me my gigbit speed I get now or will it be throttled down coming from the TP unit?
@mikedropstech
@mikedropstech Год назад
Hey Dave, thanks for watching buddy! I think what you’re saying is you want to plug your basement PC directly into the TP unit instead of your ISP router, correct? If you do that and the TP unit is then plugged directly into the ISP router you’ll be fine, and shouldn’t lose any speeds. But if the TP isn’t plugged in to the ISP router and you’re relying on a Wi-Fi connection to the TP base unit that is, you’ll absolutely lose speed and be limited to whatever your system can transfer wirelessly.
@daveleary5830
@daveleary5830 Год назад
@@mikedropstech HI Mike. Thanks for your quick reply. I was a bit tired when I posted that so in a nutshell. Currently, I have an eternity cable connected between my PC and the wireless router from the cable company. My thought is to connect line 1 on TP base to current wireless router and remove ethernet cable from current router and plug it into port 2 on TP base. This will also migrate said and password from cable company wireless router to TP base unit?

On my 5G band in the same room it scores 355 down and 11.6 up 4 rooms away (65feet) 316 down and 11.4 up . This is on a 300 mg service . Any reviews of these type of mesh devices appear to me they seem have a significant drop . Personally to me it would be unacceptable .

The question is whether or not you need to upgrade. Our WiFi has always been able to reach every corner of the house but over the years, our neighbours signal strength have been increasing in certain parts of the house where sometimes theirs are more powerful. It looks like the neighbours are just using their ISP WiFi routers so they are just getting new equipment by churning between providers so my interesting mesh routers is only because neighbours are inadvertently stomping around in the 2.4 GHz range. Only one of the neighbours seem to be on the 5GHz range but 5GHz has always had shorter ranges and difficulties going through walls and floors and of course a lot of equipment still use the 2.4 GHz range. Note that if you knew how to use the routers advance features, you could always have done the screening for children and even schedule their game usage time, all that's changed is that they now have a paywall that provides you with the settings and bars you from doing it yourself through the advance features. Mind you, even when the WiFi routers started offering the features needed to block such services, those of us who understood the technology would set up a Linux router to firewall off the games and porn sites. Note you can simply change your DNS router to a malware and or family safe DNS router and though that can be easily bypassed, it would stop most kids from accessing those sites. These new paywalls on the mesh routers really burn me as I know how to provide such features myself and these new mesh routers tend to block access to the advanced features to do so without the subscription but of course, we can always go back to building our own Linux firewall again, we could even make it an advanced cache server to improve browsing speeds though quite frankly, the end devices now have plenty of storage to do effective caching themselves.
@mikedropstech
@mikedropstech Год назад
Thanks for the info! I’ve played around a little with alternative DNS but for typical users it’s still a step further than it needs to be vs. just using settings in the app of any given router.

Try changing the channels on the effected bands
@johnwang9914
@johnwang9914 8 месяцев назад
@@keithfrank1303 Yeah, given that prior to the WiFi standard, I've planned the channel layout for a campus, I did check to see if there were available unused channels. WiFi routers today try to allocate unused channels when they boot so the three major groupings were packed, choosing to span the gap between the major groups is of limited benefit as you then compete with two groupings. Interestingly, you'll often see someone choosing to span the gap and occasionally someone with a router that can specify a broader frequency range pops up. The thing is, people are getting a lot of WiFi routers these days especially with mesh routing so it's no longer one cell per neighbour but with people also having hot spots from their phone, you're talking dozens per neighbour so unless you purchase the commercial WiFi routers that hotels and conventions buy which can intentionally interfere with consumer hot spots, you have to fight fire with fire and just have higher signal strength. It's really the number of overlapping cells that are the problem as that means the probability of hitting simultaneous traffic in the frequency chosen within the span is higher. If each neighbour just had one true cell, the chances of traffic hitting traffic is small even when your spans overlap. You can also tell that most of the WiFi routers are those that the ISP hands out and with each churn of ISP services, they keep getting newer and more powerful equipment whereas I've always used my own WiFi base stations, I didn't even give up my old Linksys from back before they integrated routers into the base stations till it burned out, I built my own router to do the NATS, firewall, DNS and DHCP services with the old ipchains as the firewall, iptables made it a lot easier as sessions were tracked. The days of being the only WiFi base station in the entire complex (I was living in an apartment back then but my one lonely WiFi could barely reach the pool and I was the furthest row from the pool) are long gone as are being able to choose unoccupied channels simply due to the number of WiFi base stations people unwittingly have just from the ISP's.

I constantly have to reset this router. It works normally. I have gigabit Internet, but sitting right next to the device on regular 5g, I get about 300Mb/s. IF I connect to the WiFi 6e channel, I get about twice that amount, but never close to the gigabit Internet. If I connect directly to one of the Ethernet ports on the device I get the full gigabit. Ultimately this would be fine for me. But after a while, the speeds drop way down and I can only get 100Mb/s max. If I reset the Xe75, the speeds return. Why do I have to do this at least once per day?
