Part 6 Of The Precision Rifle Reloading Series
This is the video where it all comes together. We selected our cartridge, our components, we prepared our brass, primed, powdered, and seated our bullets. This test ended up exactly as I expected and provides me with a great place to start fine tuning for ultimate accuracy. Next up, a seating depth test, which is where things all start to come together.
See you all next week, once again, at the range!
THANKS FOR WATCHING!!!!!!!

Why test with no tread cap on the barrel if that’s not how you’re going to use it? Wouldn’t you want the harmonics right for field use?
@triggeredprecisionmachinellc
In order to get completely raw, un skewed results. This rifle will be used for only competitions and will wear a harmonic tuner brake for its entire life. You find the load the rifle likes with a bare muzzle, then really dial it in with a tuner. If I were doing the whole load development process with the tuner brake on, that would also be problematic because I have no way of knowing what setting I should use. This is the best way I know of. On the other hand… if this were a hunting rifle with a brake or a suppressor and those items would always be on that rifle, I would do my load development with those attached. The difference between that example and my match rifle being the adjustment and variability in the tuner and none in the suppressor or fixed brake. Hope that explains it… kind of long winded. I gotta say, that is an excellent question. Thanks.

Lookin' good Shawn! Really encouraging results. Thanks for putting this together. I'm guilty of firing test rounds too fast. I probably only wait 15 - 30 seconds between shots. Need to slow it down. No need to hurry. 🤪 Got a laugh out of the time lapse video.
@triggeredprecisionmachinellc
Haha. I’m the same way. I have to use my watch with a timer set to hold me accountable. Lol

Shawn, I also have the Labradar Chronograph and experience the same level of frustration when it decides not to pick up a shot. I cured this problem by adding the JKL trigger to it. This is a very sensitive vibration sensor and it words beautifully. Initially I mounted it near the action but the problem I ran into it actually picked up the bolt closure as a shot fired. I relocated it toward the end of the forearm stock eliminating this error. It's not expensive at all and I highly recommend it!
@triggeredprecisionmachinellc
I ordered one last week, I was getting so frustrated. Based on what I'm hearing, that should cure my issues. Thanks for the advice on the setup.

Great info! Yes I was thinking the same, 42.8. I'm about to do the same test you are doing in my 6.5 WSM but with .3 increments of powder.
@triggeredprecisionmachinellc
I'll go back and forth between .3 and .4 grain increments for the cases that hold around 40ish grains of powder. It's a trade off between finer resolution and covering a larger span of powder weights with the same number of cartridges fired. Good luck on the 6.5!

My Labradar was a problem from day one. I send it back for repair twice. Both time it failed to work. I spent more in repairs than I originally paid for it.
@triggeredprecisionmachinellc
I’m ready to send mine in for repairs. No matter what I do I can’t get reliable readings for a string of shots. About every 4-6 rounds it will miss. I’ve tried the Doppler pickup with all sensitivity levels and the regular trigger with all sensitivity levels. 🤷🏻‍♂️
@joevollmer3037
@joevollmer3037 Год назад
Good luck. The second time it failed I called Labradar and explained the problem the person I talked to said he would repair it no charge then I get an email telling me the cost would be $300 plus! Use caution with these people.
@triggeredprecisionmachinellc
Damn. I’m not looking forward to this. Thanks for the heads up.

I think I should see 1500-2000... hopefully. I'm at 1100ish now and it still holds .5 MOA with no problem. I'll shoot it until it won't meet that minimum requirement.

4:52 did you forget your hearing protection? I do that all the time. it's a good thing I'm used to cranked, 100 watt tube amps preparing me for when I do it with 300 win mag and 300 Norma. I finally got my DudRadar to work with the 300 Norma, thanks for the tips you gave me a couple months ago. The trigger from JKL Precision is what I use and it always works. By the way, Staball HD is available all over now, I picked up 16lbs, but haven't done any testing yet. Supposed to be a little better than Retumbo.
@triggeredprecisionmachinellc
Haha! Good eye. I had ear pro in but they were the Axil ear bud types. I shoot pistol with em and it’s fine but the centerfire rifle is a little much. Glad to hear your chrono is working. I need to send mine in for a new usb port, my battery pack usb cable almost falls out. Lol When I get near the bottom of my last Retumbo jug, I’ll adopt the Staball HD for sure. It’s popping up on shelves around here pretty regularly.

I usually use a USB battery pack to power the unit but I left it on the charger at the shop. The AA rechargeable Eneloop batteries were darn near dead. I put the battery pack back on and it was normal. I'd like to check out that trigger. I have the little add on micro phone for suppressed guns and .22's which also works great.

That's what I was thinking. He had the radar to far away from the muzzle to trigger it, especially with not having a brake on it.
