Can’t wait to get further into this! Put together a 6mm creedmoor several months ago, and just haven’t put a lot of time into load development for it yet. But I bought a couple boxes of 115 DTAC’s (coated) and shot a couple groups using H4350 with Lapua brass. At about 2950 fps, it was grouping just under 1/2”. I have an EC tuner brake on the rifle, so that’s another toy I need to play with some more!
@triggeredprecisionmachinellc
My previous experience with the 6CM and 115 Dtacs resembles what you just said. I was laughing to myself at the first OCW i did last year with the combo because everything was under 1/2 moa and the "OCW Node" was showing to be right at .200" for three shots. Its a deadly combo with that brass and powder. Definitely the "easy button," for mid to long range performance.

Started with 6.5 Creedmoor myself. Started buying equipment in Spring of 2021 and produced my first rounds summer of 2022. I’ve produced about 1200 rounds thus far, what a journey! Appreciate the info.
@triggeredprecisionmachinellc
That's my stand by recommendation for new shooters. It really does everything pretty well and its a great cartridge to learn to load for.

Exactly how I went about it and arrived at .308…$21bx and 20 cases I’ve loaded so far 8 times…got lucky on primers in a auction…I dropped almost $2k in primers 1st thing as I knew it’s get em when you find em or do without so 15k has carried me 2yrs and got plenty still…6.5prc little different than .308 but balisticly was perfect for my next cartridge to reach further prices just crazy for blue collar man as 9rds is round $30 handloaded…buds has white bx match for like $47bx 147s which ain’t to bad just 2hrs away…
@triggeredprecisionmachinellc
308 Win may be old and used up, but its hard to beat, especially when you look at the ammo available and how versatile it really is. I have a fresh 6.5PRC reamer I just got in thats looking to make some chips. Cant't wait. Someone hurry up and order a 6.5PRC 😂

Been shooting and reloading for many, many years (no comment on the "Old Dudes" reloader info is not good). I love my .308 and generally shoot through the 6.5 creedmore target holes to make them a wee bit bigger haha...Plus I dont have a Man Bun...so cant justify some of these newer upstart calibers haha.

My new project was based on 6mm that could function in an AR platform. Yes it is 6mm ARC. Building the gun took a while as I basically bought components for the build to make it like I wanted. The last thing I need to do is mount the scope. I was lucky to get 140 rounds of factory ammo (same lot!) as components (brass) is very hard to find. I’m waiting for the last of my reloading equipment to arrive. My intended goal is to use the rifle for ranges out to 800-900 yards. I’m confident that it is a reasonable goal based on my study of the ballistics of the 6mmARC. I’m looking forward to seeing what reloading equipment you recommend and use. Great info you are presenting.
@triggeredprecisionmachinellc
I'd be very interested to hear your results when you start reloading. I just had a potential customer reach out about building a 6ARC bolt gun which I though was very cool. I have built one 6ARC and put a box of factory ammo through it before I sold it to a buddy as a predator rifle. Very interesting little cartridge, it really opens up the potential of the small frame AR.

@@triggeredprecisionmachinellc Got scope mounted today. Last of the reloading equipment also today. I’m a big fan of LE Wilson equipment, Short Action Customs, and 21st Century. Hopefully our weather will hold till Wednesday so I can zero the rifle. By the way you mentioned Bergers stability function which I have used before. Great tip I hope a lot of viewers check it out.
@triggeredprecisionmachinellc
Sounds like it was a good day indeed! I happened upon the Berger stability calc far to late in the game. I used to manually figure out the stuff with the huge formulas, using a scientific calculator app on the computer. Talk about a headache. LOL

Thank you so much for doing this. I’m really excited to follow you on this journey. Currently working with an AR in .224 Valkyrie and a Bergara 6.5 CM. At some point will go over any differences in precision loading for a bolt gun verses an AR, if there are any?
@triggeredprecisionmachinellc
Hey Nico, Thanks for watching. The series should be very informative. We will start this weekend on brass prep and a few other things to get started. You bring up a great point. I can incorporate a discussion on that for this weekend's episode. Thanks! -Shawn

Started with 270 WSM and pushed the pill out as far as possible while using the factory barrel 1:10 twist. Using all the cases for powder made a big difference. Would love a new barrel at 1:8 or 7.5 and push the 170/190 pills, or just go to a 300WSM with larger bullets 200 gr and above with it pushed out. The F-class guys cannot be wrong.
@triggeredprecisionmachinellc
Your'e spot on. The track record of the 300 WSM for shooting tiny groups at 1,000 yards is undeniable. That's another one of those cartridges that was just designed well and shoots great. Stick a heavy for cal. bullet in the end of one with a long barrel and that's a long range machine with mild recoil and reasonable barrel life.

For me my cartridge decision was based on availability for the most part. I’ve had the 6.5 CM for a few years now, started with factory match ammo. That’s where I started my reloading journey. After I decided I wanted to move out to a mile and beyond I selected 300 PRC, availability for components are decent and reloading results are fantastic. But I still have factory hunting rounds for it if needed. Always try to stay prepared. I’ve been having great success with Staball 6.5 and now Staball HD. I’m also a serious fan of Berger VLD and Hybrids but I fall back on Hornady ELDM for availability
@lelandgaunt7130
@lelandgaunt7130 Год назад
Where the hell did you find Staball HD? How did the 300 prc work out to past a mile? I know a mile was no problem, even 6.5 can do a mile consistently with anyhting over 140gr bullets..and of course around 2000-3000 elevation. I looked into the 300prc, but my 300 win mag was right there if not better (2960fps with 225 ELDs) with heavier bullets so I went to 300 Norma. Just can't find any powder for it that optimizes the cartridge.
@triggeredprecisionmachinellc
Those two cartridge choices cover almost everything you could ever want to do aside from the extreme ELR stuff. Having factory ammo available is a huge benefit. I used to mess with wildcats a bit more but have found myself sticking with more mainstream cartridges like the 6 and 6.5 CM just for the ammo availability. There have been plenty of times recently where components to load those rounds were not available, but factory ammo was. If you want to continue to shoot, its a smart way to go. Great point and great choice in cartridges.

@@lelandgaunt7130 I have a friend that located me 4 lbs of HD in Indianapolis. So far I’ve only had the opportunity to shoot the 300 PRC out to 1800 yards. So I’m not sure how it’s gonna be at 1.5 mile or beyond. I’m limited in my range access right now
@triggeredprecisionmachinellc
What bullet are you shooting an how fast are you able to push it with the Staball HD?? Now I'm real curious, I'll have to find some. Is the burn rate similar to Retumbo or closer to H1000?
@fbwguy
@fbwguy Год назад
@@triggeredprecisionmachinellc on the burn rate chart it’s one number higher(slower) than Retumbo. I’m using 220gr Berger Hybrid and getting 2850 with a 26” barrel

CCi BR4s are a better small rifle primer than the CCI 400s shown in this video - they have a thicker case and are more consistent IMO
@triggeredprecisionmachinellc
I would agree they are a better primer, but as far as what you gain from them... I've never seen any benefit. The benchrest shooters may though.. The best primers in my opinion are Federal Gold Medal Match. Ive had tighter velocity spreads with those and better consistency lot to lot.

@@triggeredprecisionmachinellc It's rough man..and now the cool kids are ignoring me and not emailing helpful load data like you said you would. Hahah, I know you're very busy bud, only joking. H1000 was decent for the 220s at 80gr (2900fps), but at 81gr there was clear pressure. Tried H50BMG, but was too slow. Only thing left to do is seat the bullets out more and try again. Also, I read they were phasing out Retumbo and that the new long hair, virgin everyone is after is Staball HD.
@triggeredprecisionmachinellc
Damn dude, I'm sorry... I thought I responded. I have load data for 215's, 230's and 245's. For whatever reason I skipped over 220's. If any of that data would be helpful I'll email it over. Its all based on Lapua brass and either H1000 or Retumbo. I'd be really bummed if they are phasing out Retumbo but that makes sense seeing as how I haven't seen it available for probably close to 1.5 to 2 years now. Shoot me an email at shawn@triggeredprecision.com and I'll get you that load data.
