Lovely lads! Another vid :) Learned so much by watching the show! D&M Drive, Tchula, DLS, Big Sky, Timeline all on the board and wet dry setup is in the pipeline! You guys do most of the ground work, especially if shops in the area don't stock certain pedals so we can't try them in person. Eliminates the fear of buying a pedal online and risking it not working well with a set up! Literally can't think of another channel that dives so deep into things and explore pedals with different amps/guitars. 10/10
Ciaran Loughran I totally agree with all of what you said. I've been watching Mick+Dan for 2+ years and I honestly learn something from every TPS show. I feel like any guitarist who doesn't watch the show is missing out on so much!!
guys i dont say this lightly, but that pedal show has become the gear channel which others are measured by and you dont know just how good you are together. fabulous show and im looking forward to friday already.
Wow, thank you. There’s such a lot of great stuff on the Toob - we’re glad to be a part of it and making a connection. Most of all, we’re stoked that you find it useful! Thanks for watching!
So glad people are giving Credit & Respect to Mr. Tony Iommi "aka" The Godfather of Heavy Metal. Every riff he created was so Evil and catchy. The perfect guitarist for Black Sabbath. Great influence of mine. ( and ) Oh God . . . that heavenly Tone when Mick picked up his Strat . . . Channeling your inner Stevie Ray Vaughan. Great playing. Mick you have become awesome on guitar. Love your phrasing.
My conclusion from this show: you guys do need a new venue so that you can turn up this loud every episode and get this happy! Thanks as always my friends!
BTW, when you guys come to CA. You’ve GOT to come by. I have a Vampower MTS, many Marshall MTS both Synergy and Salvation, a Vamp pedal! (Made in Nashville), but all the things you guys say you’ve never heard before. I have 1 or 2. Traynor 1970 Custom Reverb, 2 EL-34’s which is a 1/2 Fender Bassman circuit and kinda sorta came up with a JTM-45 type machine that will not die! They were meant to fall 30’ and not be damaged. But my 1970 Traynor has the best tone!! It’s got a Giant unnaturally strange but beautiful sounding reverb no pedal will duplicate! Laney HH speakers designed by Lyndon Laney in the cab 4x12” for the Black Sabbath 30! Maybe I’ll pair it with my Silver Jubilee! (We’ve got one hell of a collection going on in here) Mick, bring your 335! 😊🎉🎸🎶♒️👍🏻 Blessings, Tom
Oh well , the fact that Laney is a half century on is proof that if you're really good that you never die you just keep being reborn again and again, makes me want to get in a car and drive really fast ,thanks guys
I have been shopping around for Laney amps. Had my eye on the GH50R head and 2x12 cab. After I found it was made in China I decided to pass. Since I started researching the LA30 and watching reviews I have made my decision. This video was the benchmark of what this amp is capable of, thank you for that. Ironically, my birthday is coming up and my wife walked past me while watching this and said "Is that the Laney you decided on"? I said I think so. She just smiled and said "Order it".
The Zvex Distortron y'all featured in the distortion episode is a Box of Rock without the SHO boost but with a switch to reduce bass. Where I felt that was the wrong forum for the Distortron, you did the Box of Rock justice here! Juicy JTM goodness. And that Laney is a beast. Good on ya!
I bought the Wampler Reflection for $50 brand new at one of the major retailers. Easily one of the best deals I've ever gotten. I will always prefer Fender's spring reverb - nothing beats that - but for being a digital reverb this thing sounds amazing. I highly recommend it.
Both of you are so passionate about what you do and it shows; so infectious! Thanks for all you do. This channel inspires me more than any other on the internet.
I must say this must be the most awesome rock tone that you guys had on the show! I'm really surprised by this amp (Laney). Love your show. I'm from Montreal Canada. Cheers.
Hello, chaps. Don’t forget that the regular JTM45 puts out about 33watts at edge of breakup. Of the big Marshall NMV amps my preference is for the SuperBass. I got that decades ago from Paul Kossoff who moved from JTM 45 to SuperBass when he HAD to. Even back then JTM45/100s were pretty rare... SuperLeads put out a whole lot more than 100watts when they were cranked. When I got a Boogie (still have it) I asked Randall Smith why it came with the EV200 and he advised that at large stage volumes it could put out 175watts when the power amp got cooking too. Actually the EV200 sounds good at most volumes above the dreaded “Bedroom volume” - where it just kind of lays flat. Sorry if I seem to be telling you “how to suck eggs” but a lot of “watchers” have never been in a position of being able to play a truly loud amp. Pete.
Dan, Mick, I just thought, well, that looks like fun. And it sounds just fine. Since I have my B.C.Customs TI Boost, that I use with the Marshall Astoria Classic! 30 Watts and 30 Watts but this has EL-34’s. The Astoria has KT-66’s. Sweeeeet pair! 🎉😊❤ Blessings Dudes!
I have an Laney LC 30 I bought from the local co-op superstore that was selling guitars and amps for a while before it shut down the salesman let me have it for 300 quid because no one in my town was buying any of the music gear I know the Co-op of all places to buy an amp I couldn't believe my luck I gave him the money and walked out with it with a large smile on my face anyway I still gig with it and to me the clean channel cranked is the best sounding amp I have ever tried period
The way harmonic tremelo works is amazing, it explains how EHX was able to make the Worm work the way it does with tremelo (which i know now to be harmonic) I think it'd be super interesting to see that get on the show! I'd go as far to say I'd send you my very own for you all to check out!
Sweet Jeebus, that Laney sounds incredible! I have an old 70s Klipp that sounds pretty sweet but at 100w, you’re killing local wildlife before it’s anywhere near cooking. Need to get my hands on one of those new ones though 🙌🏻
I put the Supro Tremolo up against the Walrus Monument and while good, the Walrus wasn't able to get the same amount of low speed throb that the Supro could. It's a great trem.
Fab show as always guys. I agree, some of the best pure 70s hard rock tones you've ever got. Amazing how good that amp reacted with all the pickup types
"Whales swimming up the M4... She sounds nice..." I lost it. Love the Box of Rock (works surprisingly well with violin!). Cheers, and thanks for a lovely video guys!
I begged my parents to take me to Download Fest when I was 13 to see Sabbath. Saw them again at Hyde Park a few years ago, still magical. Been a long time since I've listened to anything so "rock". Loved the Iommi pedal, thanks for the show gents! x
I remember being 9 or 10, round my mate Matthew’s house, and he had older brothers. I remember being actually frightened putting that record on and feeling totally rebellious doing so. It was like a glimpse into another world. That and AC/DC. Happy days! (Mick here).
I'm pretty thankful it's not two channel with an FX loop. If it was, I'd be selling some gear tonight. I can sit on the idea of buying it for a bit. Still have newer gear I'm testing out.
I'm a total trem junkie! I currently have a Telenordia (now known as 'Tortenmann') TT3 which is a discrete opto term with a germanium preamp. Due to the preamp it almost sounds like a cross between an opto and a tube bias trem and I love it. I use trem so much in a set that I'm contemplating the Supro on the harmonic mode as another sound. It really sounded cool.
I’m with you Grant. The Supro really does that heavy wobble thing brilliantly, and I think it has a transformer that you can drive for real ampy goodness too. Mmmmmmm Mick here.
I know these guys are fizzing about the Laney, and rightfully so, but the whole time watching all I saw was a SUPRO IN THE PEDAL SHED!!!!!! Can't wait to hear that!
Love both your sincere reactions at the end to the Box of Rocks section of the video. I also have that pedal, and may I suggest placing the (Xotic Super Clean) before the Box of Rock, it has an amazing effect, by making it sound like your actually playing through a Marshal JTM, with less muddiness and all JTM vibe.
Great episode, despite being very informative, a bunch of laughs to be had, Dan at his best going troppo @ 39:50 with"that chord" and micks guitar resonating in sympathy. Good to see and hear the SG and the les Paul Junior back out for a whirl. thanks guys cheers
I have a Laney Klipp 100, sounds great on the few times that I've been able to play it flat out. Tried running it with just two EL34's, but it didn't seem to make much difference. A real trouser flapper, but unfortunately, as with a lot of ancient valve amps, it has cot a few bob to keep it running. It was advertised along with a fish tank in the window of the local butchers' shop. Advertised for £90, knocked him down to £85. Occasionally one can still bag a bargain!
Ancient Laney memory. Paget Rooms Penarth 1972'ish, Groundhogs - Laney stacks both guitar and bass. Blown away in the first bar. Monster!!! Quicksand, the support were brilliant and I doubted that the Groundhogs could follow their fantastic set ... just one bar and Gone !!!
"Man" gigs especially... Watching?? Can't help myself. Addicted innit 8^) Funny enough, I just bought a Laney cab. Nuthin fancy, just a 1x12 for extension purposes and something for my old TnB50 to sit on once I've done the servicing, re-cap etc. H|H speaker they reckon. Sounds OK. Very different from the Fender Bassbreaker 15 speaker.
Great episode. The nerdier the discussions get, the better. Also glad to hear some SGs on the show again. Always some of my favorite sounds. Can you guess what my favorite guitar is? Lol
Thank you soooooo much for playing the Box Of Rock!!! That's my always on pedal in front of a clean amp. I boost in to the B.O.R. with an EP Booster for solos!
That Supro term is super cool having both options. If you guys are looking for another random tremolo to throw in the mix, try Keeley’s DynaTrem. It has two settings where your pick attack or speed of playing control the rate and depth of the effect. Plus it has an harmonic setting with built in reverb. Just seems right up your alley.
What a great surprise. Thank you for that contagious enthusiasm week after week!!! Really needed that today! For me the supro comet (so greatful to own one) is the best of the supro line I tried. 14 w, which is enough, sounds great with boost (old tc linedriver) and overdrive (catalinbread formula 5). I personally dont need massive headroom, use more of "volumedown" on my 67 CS Tele (so greatful to own one) for cleanish tones.
My Doctor has determined that this show is bad for my bank account.... Every time I watch your show there's another new tone I have to have to be complete as a human...
How has it taken me so long to see this. That Laney is completely fucking awesome! Laney are just about the most underrated Amp brand out there at the moment. Show the love to Laney!
That box of rock sounded amazing! You should get more zvex pedals on the show. They make a great and versatile tremolo pedal you should check out! Keep up the great work!
My first amp was a Laney linebacker 30 ,many years ago, and I haven't even heard of lord Tony. It was the only amp in my price range that had a reverb in it, I would love another Laney amp
The Supro tremolo sounds ace! That pedal even has a little output transformer inside of it to emulate a pushed tremolo section. Sounds lush every time I hear it.
Love harmonic tremolo. Love my Source audio vertigo. Yes Yes I know it’s digital but I needed the presets or I just get moaned at for changing settings too much during a gig. Plus it’s got some really cool other sounds if you use the Neuro app. Be interesting to hear the differences though between all the digital ones: vertigo, Boss, strymon even Line 6 versus the analog stuff from Walrus and Supro.
