Guido (PE1NNZ) did it again and made us believe in wonders ! Download here: dl2man.de/wp-content/uploads/... ATTENTION: CAT Speed changed to 115200 Baud !!! Try it out and give us your feedback here: forum.dl2man.de/viewtopic.php...
I found the spectrum scope by accident and was blown away when I did. I cant believe how much you guys were able to include in a radio so small, I'm glad I returned my clone and got the real thing. 73s!
GLORIOUS!!! What's better than a mad genius??? Two mad geniuses!!! You guys have done it again!!! Now I am going to buy a second (tr)uSDX so I can have one with each version of firmware!!!
You know what? This is actually a very good implementation of a scope. The clicking of the VFO knob to change tuning rate is so much better than other options like the Yaesu ft857. The compromise is absolutely not an issue at all It’s still in beta phase but fantastic and can’t wait for a hard release.
This simply amazing - thank you so much for you commitment to this radio - mine is still in kit form, so I am excited that once I get to build it, this firmware will be stable.
Guido .... this is as epic as in 1986 GEOS (written entirely in assembly language) was released for the Commodore 64. It had a mac OS like windows GUI running in 64k or ram. Your level of coding skills, is not only admired, but much appreciated Sir! Thank You! 72 - KF6IF
Wow! Ich bin einigermaßen sprachlos. Vielen Dank euch beiden! ;-)) 73, Christian DC8CB
I just tested the new firmware on my LO band board and it works great! It's honestly amazing how well it works. You guys are really pushing the bounds of that little chip
There seems to be a hole in your ceiling which is reflected in the display 😀😃😄 Awesome and outstanding job with that firmware - well done! Vy 73 de DL8CY Mike
I really like the spectrum indicator, great feature. What's great is that even with fast rotation, the spectrum has a fast redraw. I have a larger display and it works great. I think PWM sound has improved a bit. I've been playing with it for 10 minutes and I'm thrilled.
@@FarinazionIt seems like a good idea, in my opinion, to abandon AM/FM in order to free up the limited space on the 328P while additionally enhancing SSB and CW modes. On top of that, I'm not aware of any recent HF ham transceivers that don't support CW or SSB mode. Still, certain models don't have AM, FM, or both, just like the IC-718 lacks an FM mode.
You sir, are the man. The amount of things you've managed to pack into that little radio is astounding. I can't wait to see what you develop in the future.
Fantastic work!!! I got the orange just 2 days ago but already managed to update to Beta true Fedora Linux. Took a look at the forum part but missed a Beta post or place where to mention potential bugs and feedback. Count on me as a tester and always wanting the newest soft. Again hat down for the great work on Hardware & Software onthis project 👏👏👏
Spectrum analyser works. I´m not sad, that AM isn´t implemented anymore . As I noticed in the CQ-DL ;) The new Feature is awesome. You both did a great job (tell Guido) I
That is amazing , I'm blown away at what you guys are coming up with........ next thing there will be an RX/TX equalizer or some other goodies lol........ great work.
The spectrum scope is a nice and impressive add on given the limitations by the 8 bit microcontroller. A VSWR check even for SSB mode and possibly PA output power limitation when VSWR is bad would have been higher on my wishlist.
SWR with SSB might still come. Not sure, we had it once for test, but it was off.... Power Limitation @ bad SWR is not possible, as we have no way to control power from AtMega. The only way to control Power is by input voltage. But we could switch it off.... This is also on our wishlist. However: I cannot promise IF and WHEN it comes. We work on it, when we have time and want to work on it. In the end it´s still just a hobby for us and we want to have fun with it. 73 Manuel; Dl2MAN
The sacrifice of FM/AM for this new firmware is a super idea, I never used them personally, so they won't be missed!!... everyone will be happy to have the new firmware, well done awesome work.
Its a matter of opinion as to what you keep, AM/FM This transceiver is built by a person who in touch with the real world , the direction Manuel is taking this brilliant idea is a good one, freeing up precious space on the atmega 328p for new ideas is fantastic, buy a boom box with am/fm might be a better solution for you!!!....
Maybe it would be great to have two versions: one with spectrum and the other with AM/FM. I can understand that there are listeners that want to hear AM broadcast with their rig
Amazing!!! I am using it now. Works perfectly!!! No problem if FM/AM is not there anymore. Well, at least for me. Something I have to report is that, with the old firmware, I was able to shut down the radio by lowering down the volume to zero (null). But now this no longer works. The radio goes down to zero and then to volume -1 but does not shut down. Apart from that no issues. Ahhh yes, for digital you have to use 115200 baud rate and then it works. I use Ham Radio Deluxe with the following settings... Kenwood TS-480, in my case Port 7, 115200 speed, RTS ON and nothing else. I make sure, before connecting to the (tr)uSDX, if I have been using the computer connected to another radio before, I restart the computer. WIth a fresh start, I make sure it will work well and will connect with no issues to the (tr)uSDX.
That was all mentioned in the Video.... Exept for "switching off": That was a useless feature anyway, as it would still consume power in the "off" state. If you have further feedback, please leave it at that link in the video description, so it is focussed at one place. Thanks ! 73 manuel; DL2MAN
The spectrum scope is a great addition even with the tradeoff of loosing AM/FM. As others noticed too, the SSB sound is also improved! But I also noticed a tiny bug right from your video 😅 : after exiting spectrum scope display, the callsign indicator is not redrawn on screen.
While this bug is totally there, I don´t think it needs immediate fix, as you probably know your callsign ;) But thanks for the info. 73 Manuel; DL2MAN
I am flabbergasted... Tomorrow I will try it on my USDX. Is that possible? Will look into it tomorrow. Otherwise I will order a TRUSDX. This is too good not to play around with. Amazing. Congrats in getting your project even further. 73 PG0V
When you´re finished building, install bootloader and try to download firmware for the serial number: It will then tell you how to contact us. We will then unlock your Serial Number for Firmware Download.
Would you recommend this radio to a beginner? I am looking to get started in HF on a budget, and this seems like it could be a good option. Thanks and 73!
Well, as beginner without budget, there is not much choices. At least you have this one. Opposite to myself when I was younger, I had crappier choices ;) As the designer of this Rig, I am biased, so you shpuld ask someone else this question. 73 Manuel; DL2MAN
Manuel, I am fascinated with the (tr)uSDX and am discussing it with ham friends here. We are interested in knowing IF you have used digital modes (VarAC, FT8, etc) with the radio, and is yes what additional hardware you used. For man-portable, assume a tablet or small laptop. What say you? 73 de Stephen W9SK
I have made a Video about exactly this topic, that you might want to watch: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-W5M2C7rW0b0.html 73 Manuel; DL2MAN
I too like the spectrum scope. However after upgrading to 2.00t I was unable to establish CAT communication. I had to revert to 2.00i for the CAT to work????? Thanks for your continued work on this QRP transceiver.
Amazing coding work. Can you imagine if you moved to STM32 (Uno4) with more processing power and memory what would be possible? I think it's something to consider for the future.
This was the very first thing, that popped in my mind. But ATMega 328 is part of (tr)uSDX DNA, so it will stay this way. But the next "big thing" will have a bigger processor ;) 73 Manuel; DL2MAN
By the way I tryed the digital modi. No connection with WSJT-X anymore :( my latest Firmware was i, now with t it doesn´t work anymore. Is there anything special ? One hour before I hat some QSOs on FT8. Or is it not possible anymore, to work in FT8 ? 38400 baud doesn´t work ! 🤔😔
It bricked my device. What do I do? I do have a original, purchased on Amazon. However, I burnet the atm chip once and replaced it. Was able to get it up and running. Today, after trying to upload the new firmware, I downloaded with my serial number from the site, the device is showing me a series of numbers and letters different than my serial number. Any idea how to solve this?
I was able to fix it by downloading the correct firmware. The problem happened when I tried to upload the new firmware via USB using the ISP version. It was confusing for me. Perhaps you should clarify on the website about using the ISP firmware version that is prepared with the boot loader. Anyways, all good now and working. Loved that you guys added multiple CW messages and the spectrometer works like a a charm. Also tried cat with the new bauld speed! Awesome! Thank you KO4ZHL
I am using AVRDUDESS on Windows10 and trying to upload the latest beta firmware as of today's date. The upload process completes without error. However, after the upload completes, my tr(usdx) does not reboot but displays this message: 45304A47494B0xxxxx Nothing I do makes this message disappear and the tr(usdx) will do nothing. I am able to successfully upload the previous beta from last year and then the rig functions normally. Can anyone suggest how to solve this problem? Tnx es 73 de Arnie W8DU
Most likely a typo in the Serial. There are letters and numbers, that can be easily mixed up. Did you compare that with your printed label ? maybe there was a typo.... 73 Manuel, DL2MAN
@@dl2man Thank you Manuel. I did indeed have the s/n wrong. Once I corrected that, I was able to upload the beta with no problem. Thanks to you and Guido for your continuing support for this project.
Just downloaded and installed the (...new ?) beta-FW . It seems the unwanted sideband will good suppressed. Test: When copy FT8 (for example) in USB and switch to LSB the FT8 signals are to 90 % away . Only one thing : The difference between the 4 kc to 3 kc audio-bandwide have only a very little difference , but acceptable . 73 , Jens / HB9JOI
Works beautiful, ... but, where is the FM- and AM- Mode gone? No more FM on 10m? (Hi-Band) That's not so good, .... Is there a chance to alter this, ... ? But, the new Beta-Firmware is working really good! The RX is more 'silent' now, without loosimg the sensivity, ... ! A more pleasent feeling, and easier listening, with headphones, by example. Thank you, Guido and Manuel, you 'rock'.the (tr) u SDX ! 73 de Markus - db9pz
@@dl2man If I needed a 'FM-Mode' for 10m again, I will 'flash-back' my (tr) u sdx to the old firmware, it is still stored on my PC. So, ... 'No Problemo!' ... , as the extraterristrian life-form 'ALF' always said, ... ! Did my first 40m QSO with the new firmware. (Iq5qo/1) It 'sounds' even better in SSB, as the QSO-partner says! Only 4,8W and FD-3 antenne through half of Europe in SSB, not that bad, ... ! - "I still can't believe it, .... but it's [only] a (tr) u SDX ! " - (Your new advertisment shout-out!) 73 de Markus - db9pz
Available as Kit for builders. Will not be available assembled, as there´s more tuning required on the hi bands. This needs to happen on individual level. 73 Manuel; DL2MAN
Very clever ! This poor ATMega is used at its maximum 🥵, no doubt about that. May be one day, someone 🎅will offer you a more powerful microcontroller 😁
The beta-fw is really not good at all : No / or minimal differences between bandwide 3 Kc and 4 Kc. Also if you swich to 2,4 kc the signal-strengh goes down 50% . Next is that the unwanted sideband will not good or not suppressed . When you listen in LSB and swich to USB you will copy the signal like same if would not switched . Make another test : go on 14.074 mc USB and listen FT8 ... if you switch to LSB you will coppy the same like in USB . Normal would be in this case that in LSB the signals should be away . Same is if you copy in LSB and switch to USB ... then you will copy the signal same like in LSB , also without unwanted sideband suppression . It is not recommended to install the new beta-FW (t-Version) , it is better let the fw in version "i" ! The only positive thing with the beta-FW (-t version) is the added scope function . / 73 , Jens / HB9JOI
I think soemthing went wrong with your installation as this is way off all the others experiences (including my own). Maybe try re-installing firmware again, maybe even bootloader before that. When publicly claiming, something is "not good at all", you should make damn sure before it was not your own fault. Just sayin´ 73 Manuel; DL2MAN
In my opinion, the Atmega 328 chip has reached the limit. It makes no sense to develop the project further. You need to change the controller to a more productive and faster one. ESP32 or STM And a bigger display. Replacing the controller and display will significantly improve the functionality and at the same time will not increase the cost of the transceiver.
