Traced and Blocked Artist Gets Their Art Stolen 

The art stealer made the characters more detailed so people would think that the simpler (original) version was fake.

I swear Twitter is full of idiots. I can reference the same picture as another artist, and we can try to do the same style. But that art should not line up exactly like that. Even if you are trying to minic a style, the artist's personal style choices will shine through. When you compare Mako's art to the Lamb image pulled from the game....It's VERY obvious that her own personal style is still shown. I wouldn't believe her art was in the game.(I don't mean that in a bad way.) So the fact another artist had a drawing that lines up EXACTLY in half of the image tells me that Its traced. No other way around that.

Yep when you call tracers out the commonly pull the “umm actually this minor detail is different so it’s actually not traced”

I don't even need to see the evidence.. The sequence of events is SO SUS. - Asks about commission. - Asks for more images. - Blocks and announce they're now offering the same commissions???? Like how did you think you'd get away with it??

I feel like the art community made the art thieves/tracers more comfortable than before. There can be a person who blatantly copying/ripping off from another artist and they get defended for it. It sucks

The idea that bigger artists can't call smaller artists out for tracing their work needs to end. Not all smaller artists are saints. It's not bullying to tell someone to stop stealing your art.

Yeah the blocking before anyone even called them out for tracing or theft is all I really needed to see that they were sketch regardless of anything that would come up. Why block them and then conviently have very similar stuff to them? It's obvious why lol.

no offense but do the people who are accusing Mako or harrasing the other person, not find it suspicious that the person DMs Mako asking for examples of their commissions, blocks Mako and then comes out with their own COTL commisions that looks similar to Mako's...like that should rise some red flags, because blocking means they are guilty and they know it and don't want to deal with the artist questioning them

the concept isn't original but absolutely yes this is theft. seeing the lineup, the "stolen" piece has the exact hair lines minus the two huge side pieces of hair. think what you want about people making and selling art based closely to a game's source material, but it is always wrong for someone to trace and deny doing it.

A big issue with the bigger creator vs smaller creator, is that history has shown it is normally the bigger creator bullying the smaller one Since smaller creators have less ways to fight back - Bonus points if the bigger creator has a rapid fanbase who they know will attack people So I think people are very very very weary about the optics of it all But the opposite can also be true, People can blindly believe smaller creators because they are the underdog and people love a good underdog story The internet has killed Objectivity and reasoning , we need to look at situations more before we speak

re: 10:30 regarding "certain type of look" of traced art, I feel like the people that are tracing art have line work that _feels_ too perfect while also simultaneously feeling disconnected. It's like they unintentionally correct flaws in the original line art and then add their own extensions to it that obviously use a different method. None of this is scientific by any means, but it's one of the reasons "art vibe" is important (to me anyway.)

There is a big difference between tracing over the basic shape of something and then altering it to make it your own and simply tracing someone’s completed piece in depth, detail for detail and then claiming that it is completely original.

I remember watching this happen on my feed because Makomi and I are art moots. It was painful to see this happen, and I am glad Makomi maturely handled the situation and walked away after showing so much proof. I'm surprised you showed my artwork as an example though!

I feel like the traced version is also way too rendered imo. It just doesn't go with the style and aesthetic of the game at all and it's really overwhelming & distracting to look at :/

The timing of everything is weird like that alone should have people leaning towards that lyneko was tracing or at least doing something weird. To inquire about mako comm and prices and then block them and post their own version of it is crazy. If that was your intention then just ask don’t waste their time and get them to believe you want to comm them. 😅 how hard was it to ask google for references but instead you used other artists as references and pretended to use the regular reference that can be found on google. Also that one person that took the time out of their day to actually make a comparison video to pressure mako to apologizing is crazy. After lynekos apology and admitting to tracing I bet that person feels stupid

Honestly I wouldn't feel too weird about it if she didn't randomly block her after the interaction. There was no reason other than this to block her. Like characters can look very similar, but when the person who drew a very similar version blocks you right after they saw your version? Naw bro she's defo hiding something. She has to at least give reason or apologize for blocking her without reason.

This kind of shit is why I don't post my art on Twitter anymore.

it's definitely not a good look to ask someone for commission details, block them, then offer the same commissions while tracing their art as a base. if only one of those things happened, it might not have been a huge red flag, but having everything happen in succession makes the intentions super obvious. it's not an end of the world situation, though. i can't help but feel like these tracing "scandals" are blown way out of proportion sometimes, where the tracer is labelled as some kinda monster. what they did this time wasn't the right thing to do for sure, but it's a red flag at best, not something to ruin their life over. in a perfect timeline, maybe the tracing artist improves their style over time, and doesn't feel the need to trace over work that doesn't belong to them. seeing them make money over this traced artwork is certainly not a good look, and grounds to block until they learn otherwise. but a part of me wishes these situations didn't end so cut and dry, with the onlookers just labelling the tracer as a horrible person. i'd like to save some hope that this person will learn their lesson and improve someday.

Might be an unpopular opinion, but I think tracing "original" artwork from the second artist was way worse than tracing some generic COTL art that closely resembles the game/promo art. Looking through their art I can see they have a consistent style compared to when you look at Lyneko's page. I feel like that part was just glazed over for whatever reason 🤷‍♀ Also I'm wondering why you didn't link the second persons socials, I only see mako's 🤔

If you use a character as reference and copy some parts of it it's okay because that's how people learn but I think it would be better to not put it up for sale if you were coping any part of an artwork.

Not to defend the tracer, but COTL art design is base off that way (round eyes, v mouth, red cape, tubby hands n feet & a bell) you can’t claim that aspect of the art as “Tracing” when the OG COTL art looks that way. If that’s the case, COTL should call you guys out or even sue you for “tracing” not to mention also selling it for profit.

I personally find the stupid because they’re both tracing the cults of the lamb art style, which is I would say ironic if they’re trying to call each other out for tracing, even though they are taking the style of the game, it owns by them so you don’t have to if you’re still using the same style as the game
