It's pretty evident that these days track cyclists and track sprinters especially use some massive gears in racing these days. In Order to race those big gears we have to train in even bigger gears! Come hang out on our last track session of this training block.
I hope you enjoy the video!

in order to go big...Go Bigger!. whats the actual race gearing you would normally use after all of this? and is track cycling more grindy now? or is it still all high RPM?
@nick_wammes
@nick_wammes 11 месяцев назад
Still pretty high RPM since the times are just faster! Using a few inches bigger than race gear since we are still in spoke wheels.

People ask me why do a 65×18 gear combo when you could just do a bigger sprocket and smaller chainring. Because big chainrings are badass and eye-catching. Thats all.

The largest my bike could fit was 60 lol, I had a good amount of people at the velodrome staring at my bike with just a 60t LOL

How do you manage chains when changing gears? One chain for each gear? One chain for all gears? If you take one off, do you have to use a chain breaker? If so, can you reuse that chain?... I'd like to know whatever you have to share about this topic.

I use a pretty long chain on my bike that can accommodate a large array of gear ratios. Track bikes have quite long drop outs where you can set desired chain tension. I am also able to add or subtract links if necessary.
@nick_wammes
@nick_wammes 11 месяцев назад
If we do need to add or remove a link then we just use the basic chain breaker and try not to push the pin all the way out to make it easier to rejoin.

To think that in Calgary in 1992 people use to criticize me for using a big gear 49×13, 101 gear and now this is a norm. Hahaha👍👍

How often do you train on box rims vs aero?
@nick_wammes
@nick_wammes 11 месяцев назад
We train on spokes whenever we get the chance! Only really in race wheels a few weeks before the race

Aren't the digit chainrings pure carbon fiber? Seems like a race day chainring, as it wouldn't last long.
@nick_wammes
@nick_wammes 2 месяца назад
Yes they are mostly for racing but sometimes we need to pull the big rings out for training

They can be very tough to get even for us. You need to make sure your bike can even fit chainrings that large

What front wheel/hub is that to go on the argon?
@nick_wammes
@nick_wammes 10 месяцев назад
I’m not really sure but i know it’s a road hub built into a track rim. Our mechanics built them.
