I always like seeing the BMW Z cars Z3 and Z4 racing with the Nissan Z cars 350Z and 370Z. Midengine Porsche Cayman is very cool.

Never ever underestimate the Cayman. Tho I might be bias in saying that since I own one (987.2), driving one gives you such a feeling of both confidence and safety. Even for someone like me, someone who has bare minimum racing experience, I can take corners at speed that any other car would spin out at, or even possibly crash unless you brake. The Cayman really makes you feel like a hero when you're driving, all the while being a practical daily car. I have no regrets buying mine and I hope more and more people have a chance to try or even get one themselves. Even used older first and second 987 generation Caymans are absolute sportscar bargains and way more affordable to own that you might realize. Gonna stop rambling now, point is: Cayman masterpiece

I've just noticed that for the money ill get for selling my s13 i could buy a cayman. How much the parts and repair cost? Are they crazy expensive?

@@Scarl3t03 It depends on what you define as "crazy expensive". The most i've paid for my Cayman was a 4 set of 19" Turbo wheels which I bought and fitted recently, and they were sold for £1500. Other than that, smaller parts and service is alot more affordable than you might expect. There are some videos that delve into the running costs of a 987 Cayman/Boxster, but you could also look up websites like Design911 which have lists for specific models and generals. Overall, for being a Porsche, both running costs and insurance are alot more accessible. But of course, only take the plunge if you have the spare money in your savings lol Would be awesome if you bought yourself a Cayman 🤙

@@RossCuth it may sound crazy, but i realized it have the same running cost or even cheaper than my s-13 or my old z32 twin turbo. After reading the price of parts and replacements i was really Wtf, and even the whole car it's more cheap than I thought, i can literally sell my s-13 add some bucks and have a cayman. I think I've never look their prices because I believed it was crazy expensive

I will say that if you're looking at GEN 1 987 Caymans from 05 - 08, alot of them are cheaper overall because of the potential IMS Bearing fault, which unlike the 996 911 or 986 Boxster, isn't really an issue. You'd have to be really unlucky to suffer from the fault, as it can just wreck your car, but by the time of the Cayman, it was a non-issue. And you can get a fix for it. GEN 2 987 Caymans from 09 - 12 got a totally new engine that resolved this problem, along with new exterior and interior styling, and a power bump. This is the model I went for, because even tho it's a non-issue, I just know i'd be one of the unlucky few to suffer an IMS Bearing failure and i'd be really anxious to drive my own car because of it, but I don't get that with the GEN 2 so it's all chill times all the time for me lol. Now because of this facelift and because they're rarer as they came out during the end of the Great Recession, 987.2s are just more more expensive. But I absolutely believe they are absolutely worth the price. Any Cayman is worth the price imo, so i'm really glad to hear that it looks like you'll be taking the plunge. Just do some research first to find the best Cayman for you 😎👌

It's a backwards start grid to make it fun. It's a short five lap race so without aggressive passing the final score may not reflect the fastest. Yeah, 911. Couple more laps and the cream would rise. I've seen a few of these and the racers are very precise and polite. Never bang up the cars and can remain friends after many races. They give good feedback if you have subtitles.

What a great video! You get to see the cars in action. It’s not supposed to be motor racing, but you do get to see how they compare really well. It also shows that retail price has nothing to do with going fast and having fun.

It ended exactly as I expected it to be. The mid engined cars would be so much better on the turns due to better center of gravity. The cayman driver had the most skill, and had the faster car vs the boxster S. Even though the 911 had more power, its lesser power brothers don't stray too far from it in terms of HP.

Personally, as a Cayman driver, I can't help but appreciate the handling and performance of this Cayman😃! I like to see them tickle the red zone ... and like less to see them drive in full automatic mode.

I have a 370Z sport coupe 6MT that has had beefed up anti-roll bars, an omproved intake, free flowing exhaust and a dynamometer tune for less than $4k. My car has about the same peak crankshaft horsepower(387) as a Porsche 911 Carrera S and a weight that is slightly less.

I had no doubt Cayman was going to win this. Then I saw it was a Cayman S. "This is going to be ridiculous." To support my initial thought, the regular Boxster with a parachute of open top and a camera stand fitted in the place of the rear blade of a spoiler - finishing at second position.

So good. Given Caymans and Boxters are basically 911's with the engine and transmission swapped around for better weight distribution and less weight given no rear seats it's no surprise it out handels a 911 although Porsche are always going to give them more power to justify the enormous price difference aren't they 😂 The 370Z Nimo surprised me, it showes the Nismo package is actually a proper performance upgrade. We all knew the Z4 was going to be either last or possibly ahead of the Z although comparatively it did pretty well and held its own for a decient time given its not really made for track work. Last but not at all a failure just outclassed in this company. That said if you look at the Z4's time attack lap vs best race lap, he was also definitely sandbagging 😂 although in the end it didn't really matter and just made for a more interesting race 🏁

For me this is not really reflecting the true result. The drivers and the wet road drove as if they were exceptional careful. The Carrera S, with the disadvantage of starting last were held up way too long is by far the best on track / fastest of them all here. I'm racing a Boxster and for me it seems as if it had much more cornering potential. Do the same on a dry track. Awesome 5 lap series. Keep it up Jack.

Realmente el conductor del 911 no estaba en sus días, habría sido interesante la batalla del Cayman S contra el 911 S, 90% las mismas piezas, 10% en similitud de conducción, repito habría sido muy interesante. El Boxter fué el encargado de bloquear al carrera.

The Carrera in the wet is more of a handful than the mid engined Cayman. Carrera had the power, but you could see the rear end step out at one point.

No, this is track,grip racing. Initial D is all about Togue or mountain pass driving where the series of hairpins led to drift style. Dori,the racer in green is a pioneer but he was gripping here. Plus except for the Nissan these are all German cars. Initial D is mostly JDM. Love how professional and polite these guys are. Ego doesn't get in the way of fun racing.

I am a huge fan of the Cayman/Boxster. And I would prefere to buy a Cayman instead of an 911. But in this case I think the 911 driver could have done better. The rear engine layout would benefit the car in such conditions (tight corners, slippery/wet). He could have been a little bit more aggressive. Anyway, it was fun to watch.

I actually bought this same generation of Cayman S, and test drove a 997 911 Carrera S as well before I bought the cayman. The cayman both drives and looks better than the 911. Put a better throttle body on the car and some other minor bolt ons, and you now have a car that costs less, is faster in a straight line, handles better, looks better, and is more fun than a Carrera S. Seriously.

@@MrLemonadefreak I own a GT4 for the track and I agree. Although the last generation just needs shorter gears, or a shorter rear axle. Thats everything I have to complain about. The 911 is very, very, very good and capable, but the GT4 gives you an "oldschool" drivers feeling and also lots of performance.

Lap times mean nothing when it’s clear that slower cars and slower drivers were just defending their positions for way too long. Plus they were on different tires. Why don’t swap all of them with the same tires and do an actual time attack with the same driver? That’s how you’re supposed to do when comparing cars

@@gregmayled i mean when the z got passed by the cayman, it was due to late braking at the 1st hair pin, the weight distribution allows for such driving. So change weight distribution or go square tires all around on the z like most track z's do and it may be a different story.

Dont forget the Cayman and 911 have $20k+ dual clutch PDK transmissions practically straight out of the challenge race cars like what you would find in a Skyline or Ferrari. Not regular H-pattern manuals or slush boxes.

The z4 has 228bhp not 300 as per the stats at the beginning. It should have been the z4m if it was available at the time.

There wasn't a M Z4 E89, they should've used the previous model E86. Even the non M 3 litre would've been better than the E89.

@@jordanb97 lordy that was a bad miss by me. I had a Z4M and when I looked at this Z4 in the race I thought it was the same generation but it's not it's the newer generation and like you say, No dedicated M model. And the model in the show did have 300 odd bhp. Thanks. My mistake.

911 only lost because it started at the back in the starting grid. The driver wasn't bad, they just can't make aggressive passes since these cars are likely on loan to them or can't be damaged. If you look at the fastest lap times the 911 would have easily won with more laps. The Cayman does put up a really good fight though and always punches above its weight (I should know, I chose to buy one over a 911 cause its more fun and handles better). If the Carrera had started further up in the grid it almost certainly would have won, but this was clearly more of a test of how fun they are on the track over the actual peak performance
