We need way more of these. There are so many places where they could be put in. For example, the Pulse in Richmond, Virginia, would be a perfect place for this technology. The best part about trolley buses is that many buses that cities already have can be converted into trolley buses. Many cities use hybrid buses for their fleet. Hybrid vehicles already have electric motors and small ev batteries. Converting them to trolley buses can be done surprisingly easily. The big expense is putting up the overhead wires, but even that will eventually pay for itself in fuel savings. It's forward thinking like this that got septa through the 1973, 2005, 2013, and 2022 oil crises far better than any other US transit agency. In addition to their trolley bus fleet, all of the trains septa operates are electric, and they also have some battery electric buses as well. Every other transit agency in North America needs to take note of what septa is doing and get ready for the next oil crisis just like septa did.
Well with the axel problems on probably 3 units of these buses. This could mean that their life is coming to an end as they get older and start having more problems. If septa’s got a plan to replace them we might just BEB or some more trolley buses. But I’m glad we still have these units as of 2023. Great video nonetheless 👍🏿
