In Europe, Distilatti Group (based near Venice, Italy) manufactures a similar price point drink, called Barman Bitter. For 10 USD you get a smell and taste that are almost at par with Campari.
At $10 I'll grab a bottle during orange season (cara cara, blood orange, navel, valencia). I love me some midday fluffy Garibaldis. I'll save the C for Negroni week. Zach, thanks for periodic search for alternatives.
Niice. I always love these episodes where you size up spirit alternatives. Fascinating when Trader Joe tosses out these spirits.. I'll always wish that I had gotten their 8 year rum so that I could size it up myself.. but this is an interesting one as well. Maybe next time I'm at the Joes I'll hafta pick up a bottle myself for some casual negronis. Cheers, Zach!!
Thank you for reviewing in depth -- huge Campari fan here but not a fan of the ever-increasing price... Even bigger TJ's fan and was so excited to see this last weekend. Tried it and loved it ("maybe 90% as "good" as Campari for less than half the price). Going back to buy a case of it just in case they don't keep it stocked.
I needed to pick up a bottle of Aperol today and was thrilled to see my local TJ’s stocks it. I saw this next to it and decided to take a chance on it for the price point. I plan to make spritz cocktails for a get together this evening and we will compare the two. It’s always a gamble to try something “off brand” but the product origin makes me feel more at ease. So often we convince ourselves that the more expensive product is better quality but in many cases, we are paying for the advertising budget on these products rather than the actual quality of the product. I feel this is especially true for “luxury” products such as alcohol, leather goods, fashion, cosmetics/toiletries/perfume, etc.
Campari with training wheels is a good description. This is Trader Joe's offering for those that want to try an amaro but are put off by the price of Campari (which technically isn't an amaro) or other similar drinks It works well enough. The artificial color is regrettable but what are you going to do for $10?
Dude, just wanted to let you know that I really miss posts from the channel and your style of presentation. This channel has taught me a lot and that I hope everything's okay. I'd really come to enjoy the little snippets of videos that we would get and even the shorts. I hope all is well with you no matter where you are!
