I wouldnt mind a Tshirt too.I like T shirts that have a great print or message and that's a good one." What are we even doing here"? We " Sardiners" will know each other then.🤔
Hola! Bought some RugerFisch herring fillets in "paprika sauce" today... Bought 'em at our RED APPLE chain of stores. These cans are bigger than the Deens l am used to. Making some homemade bread & sure these will be awesome sandwiches, eh?
Was terrified of sardines until I started watching your videos. I absolutely love canned fish of all sorts now. Gonna try the bone in sardines tomorrow.
Thanks for the tip. Tried the skinless and boneless sardines in olive oil. The oil helps and they're decent. Tastes like an everyday brand of tuna so it probably will taste better on crackers, which I have. They have a decent amoutn of taste and are reasonably flaky. Overall, for the very low price, I rate them an easy 9 out of 10. Just wish they were a bit more flaky or delicate.
I cant wait until I refresh my stash of sardines.I have some trout, mackerel and herring, smoked and pickled fish, though.I love my pickled, especially with cream cheese on crackers or crusty bread.🤗
Got the skinless/boneless w olive oil and a can ofwild caught sardines with smoke flavor in olive oil (the one in the gorgeous red can). Probably only the second time I've ever eaten any sardines. Will try tomorrow at lunch...
I have to say, I wasn’t expecting much from this review (fillets aren’t really my thing), but the canned Dorado turned out to be a real show. Dorado or “Orada” as we call it here is a common fish in the Adriatic sea as well. It’s commonly prepared fresh (grilled). I have never seen it canned like that. But it does look delicious. Thanks for the review Matthew! 🐟
Never miss an upload , no other mackerel has topped KO Mediterranean Mackerel , love the stuff traders looks like ....... here’s preserved fish ..... eat it
I just found your channel and I have a watched a few videos now, you are so addicting to listen and watch, so calming and entrancing talking about CANNED FISH
I just recently discovered Chicken of the Sea "Mediterranean Style" that comes with little blk olives, spices, and tomato pieces! So good! They also have a great EVOO / Lemon flavor. Found them my Bodega and tried them. Such a fan for a "cheap" brand.
It's a nice benefit having the last can packed with sunflower oil. I've been told that kind of oil boosts your good cholesterol. It makes sense since the good cholesterol tends to be found in fish meat so maybe they were trying to make it extra healthy...
It’s not a smooth mustard it is a whole seed mustard “imported from France” according to the label. I really like it and recently added some to some polar sardines. It’s really good on hotdogs, Italian sausages, or just about anything where a good Dijon mustard is appropriate! Enjoy!
I used to work at Trader Joe's, and one thing I've noticed about the products they have, is they are either really good, or really bland. There is never a real in between.
Eating the Dorade as I'm writing this. Super impressed so incredibly fresh and quality. Favorite can of fish I've had but I'm not a lifelong eater. Wish I remembered how much I paid I think it was less than what the video lists.
The Dorade is a species of sea bream, the common fresh water bream is also referred to as the bluegill and is common in ponds and streams in the southern U.S. It is one of the few fish I actually caught growing up in Georgia. They are quite small, but fairly tasty.
you're right about chop sticks man....I've been eating sardines since i was a kid and never thought of using chop sticks. Chop sticks are the way to go. It's changed my 'dine dining game.
Wildcard is right, Jack. The dorade seems evidence of a big agreement TJ's has with whatever cannery or canneries they're working with. Like it's too good a deal to not buy a certain amount of it, and the shelf life is so good it's not a risk to have the inventory.
Nailed it. Heads up on the smoked herring, I think it’s pretty tasty and I hope you like it. Also I want to thank you for getting me into canned fish! Keep up the good work!
Went there today, and no dorade :( Not even sold out as there wasn't a spot on the shelf. Discontinued? Or maybe my Joe's just didn't have it..got the mussels, though!
I think I like the mackerel a bit more than you did. I agree it's not fantastic, but it's a good amount of fish if I'm looking for a proteinaceous lunch. I usually keep a can or two around. I did get the dorade bream and it I wasn't sure what to make of it. It was much bonier than I thought it would be. I picked out the bones, unsure if they were ok to eat. Nice enough. I'm glad I tried it, but not sure if I'd get another one. Good point about Trader Joe's being a bit bland in the tinned fish department. They're a good place for someone who's new to tinned fish to stock up on though.
In a lot of ways, the mackerel was the best product. Good way to have a protein-rich meal without a lot of fuss. It didn't really occur to me at the time, but I was getting full.
If the 'another fish conquered' graphic is akin to gaining xp from a conquered video game monster, then surely the TJ haul will = defeating a level boss? Never-the-less, feel like I've eaten a vertebra & 1mg of fish, thru osmosis from watching this video. Thanks MC
"Look at this fish.... it's just here." I'm assuming you've reviewed the various types of pickled herring. If not, there's huge channel growth potential there.
@@CannedFishFiles I'm not. It's a recent addition to my fish files, and have only had it from delis - not sure if it's house made or some kind of bulk deal. I want to say I've seen the Vita locally in regular type grocery stores.
@@pnwesty7174 Vita is what I had as a kid, and I see it in grocery stores today. Even fancier grocery stores. I really loved it. Probably my big favorite before sardines, sushi, anything else. I would make myself sick off a big ol jar of it.
Looks like a low 2 on the fun scale, equivalent to something like, switching all the winter clothes in the dresser to summer clothes. Fun but not really. #CannedOceanMeats
Tried the Dorade, that's the perfect way to describe it! They're........interesting.........for lack of better word. I would describe it, but it's something you just need to buckle up and get on the ride yourself. (And then maybe feel a little nauseous afterward.)
I'm a chef, I've got a few dine recipes for you if you're looking for some. That first cooking video you did was great, your legions of fans need another. As for those first skinless boneless, they look like what I imagine was served in the Uridium ore processing units on Terok Nor. Also, Shania Twain reference at 0:25?
oh yeah, it wasn't a conscious Shania reference when I said it, but when I was editing, that's what I thought of every time I heard it. So somewhere deep down in there, I must have Twain on the brain.
I've not seen all of your videos, but, how about these suggestions: your Japanese heritage; your music (multiple instruments in your videos); something with your wife on what she thinks about your 'dine passion. BTW, skinless & boneless is the gateway drug for the non-deen eater to become fully immersed.
Yeah, I'd like to get around to those kinds of my personal videos. Maybe I'll do a short one to see what the interest is like. I'll be featuring some Japanese cans in a couple months, so maybe that'll be an opportunity to talk about how the Japanese thing affects my take on canned fish. Thanks. Yes, I'm a little callous in my treatment of skinless/boneless.... I'm in the middle of producing a "How to Eat Sardines" video, so maybe I'll throw a nod to em being a good starter 'dine.
The best skinless boneless I've tried is King Oscar Spanish Style in Olive Oil, ingredients: red chili pepper, pickled cucumber, carrot, salt and chili flavoring.
Dorade huh? Hey, when I found your channel, I’ve never tried a sardine in my life. Look at me now! Well, I guess I’m trying the Dorade this weekend. Maybe some bread with Kewpie and arugula? Also! What’s that box made in Kyoto??!!
Anchovies. I ordered a few things from a Japanese company. I know very little about them, but I'll open them up soon enough. Let me know what you think about the dorade, it was so different.
@@CannedFishFiles Anchovies huh?! I ate them in Spain, and my mind was blown. They toasted the bread and served it on top of goat’s milk (because I’m lactose intolerant). *chef’s kiss*
@@jessicaorozco1749 goat's milk, cowabunga! These Japanese ones were sold as sardines on the website but the box says anchovies, so more fish-naming shenanigans. I'll interrogate it in the review, I suppose.
I use this tea tree oil stuff every couple days. My hair gets so big when it's washed. Kind of a fine line between too greasy and too poofy. Pretty heavy in this video; I think I took a shower right afterwards.
