Part two of Born From Junk traces the rise of mountain biking as it came into its own as a full-blown sport. In less than a decade, Colorado's scene went from cruising around on klunkers, to scratching in clandestine singletrack, to riding dedicated mountain bikes on expanding networks of sanctioned trails. The sport quickly grew to attract large crowds at races in hotspots such as Gunnison and Crested Butte, eventually debuting as an Olympic sport at the 1996 Summer Games in Atlanta, Georgia.

My dad built me an old Klunker bike back in the 70’s. I did BMX, road riding, mountain biking and now I’m working on a tricked out new Klunker. 57 years old and I still love riding.

I have been a MTB biker since 1990. This document is great. The true spirit that is being lost. When I'm on my bike I'm truly free.

Bought my first legit MTB in ‘95. Had no idea mountain biking hadn’t been around that long. This film makes me want to rock some denim on a clunker for sure 🤙

Got my first Mnt bike in 1990 and I was hooked. Scored Moab before it was mainstream. Just two of us everywhere we rode. I still have my Giant Cadex CFM2. My first bike with a front shock was bought in 93. This film was great. Wish I was there back then when it all started.

Thanks for a brilliant Video I sucked at history at school but this is great history of mountain biking . I love the word clunker. Greetings from Scotland and an old guy who loves his bike.

Bought my first mtb, a Raleigh Technium, in 1988. Started working in a shop in 1990 until I had to be an adult in my mid-30’s. Pretty much bailed on cycling completely until 6 years ago. Now we’ve been in business for 5 and a half years and I find myself enjoying rebuilding older bikes more than the new stuff. 91 Klein Rascal in the works right now.

Wow, Amazing Video! And you are correct Mountain Biking in the 80s and 90s was the wild west. And like you my passion and Love for bicycles has never changed. It's just amazing to see how graceful you all have aged as I used to know most everyone in this documentary when you were young. Back then if you had a good idea like selling weed to help finance what you loved, you just did it and often the return was out of this world. After watching your movie I also feel the same way as I too did my part to make mountain biking grow. I simulated the brake lever gum hood position on MTB handle bars to help new mountain bike riders as most came from riding and racing road bikes. I named them onZa bar-ends... ( :

Great video 👍🏻. Old time adventure cycling, flat bar, drop bar, you don't care as long as you have fun. Bored of tight jersey? Wear anything that comfort you & protect you.

At 4:18 you get a shot of the worlds first mullet...............Nice shot of the Diamondback Axis Team at the end. I couldn't afford the Axis but I bought an 89 Apex (689.00) back then and rode the crap out of it here in the Allegheny National Forest in Warren Pa.. Had the whole place to myself back in those days.............

Great Vid. You should do a story on Laguna Rads. The beginning of gnar in the 80’s. They probably wouldn’t let you do a story on them though.
