It’s fast, and also doesn’t put as much heat into the steel as a torch would, which can be important in some cases. In the hands of someone who knows what they’re doing, it’s possible to wash off old weld so cleanly that grinding isn’t necessary! IC Weld is clearly one of these people!

How much school for certifications are there to get that? I literally have no clue, that's why I am asking.

@@teak5476 In my opinion school is worthless.. I did it and learned more In 3 months than I did in 8 and 30k dollars later. Get out in the field and keep your mouth shut and ears open 👍

@@chadkennedy529 agreed I went to a school here in California and ended up teaching the other students how to pass their test welds. I learned more in 6 months in the oil patch and 8 months building pipe fence then that school ever taught me. If your not actively looking for new methods trying new things and learning on the job then find a new career. Heck my rig right now almost everything is 30+ years old and I have to work on it all the time. But its owned and paid for dont have a cent in debt for any of it.

Possible, but how do you explain the tear in the original hitch on the other side away from the chain twist? Something else has happened to this trailer that we have not been told about.

@@markfryer9880 That tear is interesting, and it might be related, to the twist in the channel, and it might not. Big hypothetical. Who knows, have the chains been replaced, for instance? Fun to imagine what happened. Definately "out of spec" behaviours.

Doing frame welds depends upon the regulations in the state or province you were in. At the shop I was working at years ago they used to do lots of Frame stretches, box installs etc. now the laws have changed what can be done on a frame rail.

@@Zak6959 much respect.....but like I said to Isaac he is the kind of welder that can and would take it on...like if you crack a frame on a $150,000 tri axle dump what are you going to do???THROW IT AWAY AND BUY ANOTHER ONE!!!!

@@danvertdavis6867 here is the problem. Federal regulation requires that welds and repairs to frames on vehicles driven on the road must be in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations. This can be compounded by state and local regulation or laws. When you are talking about a triaxle dump, you have even more to worry about because federal regulation 393.201 limits what can be done to a frame on a commercial truck and/or trailer. They define a commercial motor vehicle as any vehicle or combination of vehicles having a gross vehicle weight "rating" of 1001 pounds or more.. notice the rating there. It is what the manufacturer says the vehicle can weight not how much it weighs at any given point in time and regardless of how it is titled or licensed in a state. Non commercial licrnsed vehicles and passenger licensed vehicles can fall within this regulation if the gross vehicle weight rating is high enough. The vehicle can be shut down on the side of the road and along with fines, you can be forced to repair or tow the vehicle from the spot. Now there most likely is an approved process for frame repairs. They might include welds and might include just replacing the actual frame rail section completely. It's up to the manufacturer what this process is. And you have to be specifically careful because some truck frames are heat treated or hardened after assembly so any welding or torch cutting on them can ruin the structural integrity of the frame making it even worse.

@@sumduma55 much respect and good info....but we know what a manufacturer is going to say $$$$$$$$$..... If a GOOD welder does the job correctly IT AINT GOIN ANYWHERE!!!!!.....most fun things in life are illegal anyways 😂

At the pivot points of your helmet there are adjustment knobs on each side, tighten or loosen both knobs until your helmet will just stay raised, then a quick little shake of your head will flip the visor down.

As a fellow mechanical engineer I urge you to go buy a hood and watch your field guys. They are experts in their trades just like you are with yours. At the end of the day, if you approach these guys humbly with questions they will teach you a lot.
