Always impressive, how modern all the little towns and cities look. And the dutch infrastructure seems to be extremely good planned and thought-out. Greetings from Dresden, Germany to The Netherlands :D
Machinist Stefan The Netherlands are amazing but the weather is even worse than in Germany. During summer the Netherlands feel like California or so but in winter it’s really pushing me down.
Here you are driving my favorite train style. I like these double decker cars and also the color scheme is my favorite one. It looks like these are the biggest cars too and a 14 car set is "impressive".
Thank you so much Rod! :D At max we drive 12 carriages of the VIRM with passengers. Longer trains are only allowed for empty trains that need to be shunted away. :D
To be honest, watching a cab ride like this makes me realise why Video 125 goes to so much trouble waiting for the decent weather, taking shots of the driver, filming runbys, producing maps, researching the history and providing a commentary.
Haha, I'm just a train driver giving an inside on the job. Good weather, bad weather etc is all in it. Also, if he does all that I don't think he's the driver himself. ;);)
If you can call £11.47 in 8 weeks "serious'" money then you would be right. However, we have over 100 PREVIEWS of our DVD, Blu-ray and Download railway productions on RU-vid to give people a good idea of what they are going to buy. As these are effectively adverts, there is no way we would wish to monetize them. They are FREE of external adverts. Why do we charge for the discs etc? Because of the cost to produce. It genuinely costs thousands of pounds to produce each one. That was really the point of my original comment.
And now you know why I can't do that. :) I'm just a train driver having some spare time every now and then to create a video like this. Waiting for good weather etc would not give a complete picture of my job. :)
@@MachinistStefan JUST a train driver? You do yourself a disservice. Most of the viewers on this RU-vid would love to do what you do, me included. Well done.
I was hoping you would hit Mach 0.12 on the straight! Also, every time you are whistling, it gives me comforts that there is a human being operating this machine.
140km/h is the maximum at our conventional tracks because of the soft soil in Holland (we're living meters under sea-level). 😁😁 And I agree.... Having humans operating the trains give a so much safer feeling than letting it be done by computers. 👍👍👍
Beautiful country - amazing bridge architecture. When you write that you "know the route" - does this mean you "know" each change of track, or perhaps the Stations on that route? You write that it will "be an easy drive" - is this perhaps because of the long long straight sections of the route? When I see "Temporary Vmax" - what does the V stand for - surely not Voltage? Are the chimes and appearance of speed indicators generated by the Train Manager relative to the many factors on the route?. Obviously "Prepare to Stop" is obvious. When you have a change of speed indicated - how long does it take to slow to that speed? And how long to reach a higher speed? I saw lots of construction sites, but did not see any workers? Does your daily schedule usually or often give you weekends off? In a previous answer to me, you noted the hours you usually drive in a day.
Hi Paul, 1. The driver must know the route completely. We also get to drive trains in the mist with almost no view at all. :) 2. No, just a ride with no particular delays or something. 3. Haha, in this case it's just the speed. To be honest Vmax is not the correct term for it. In Airlines the V stands for knots. But I use it for km/h. If I would change it, what would you prefer? 4. All speeds etc are added to the video by me. ;) 5. All signal are on braking distance from each other (for all trains). Gaining speed depends on many factors. Weather, weight, train type etc... 6. Workers also work at night. 7. I'm working weekend on and off.... So I have 25 normal weekends a year.
@@MachinistStefan Learning so much. How fun. Thanks. I'm still confused about "knowing the route completely" - There are obvious direction changes of track, for different destinations, where you are to cut off to the right or left - perhaps THIS is what is meant by "Knowing"?
Mooie video, machinist Stefan.
Stefan, this was a great ride again. I am learning I need to read your comments BEFORE I view the video. You answered several questions I was going to ask, in your notes. You were not as descriptive back in these old days and I love it how you tell us where lines are diverging to or coming from these days. Had seen that construction work at Delft and Rijwijk on someone else's video. I guess that must be all finished now. Tell me which video to look for that. I had seen my first 12 car Double Deck on another video. Good you explained why there would be a 14 car one. Good you explained why folks were getting caught with the shorter train than expected. I commented on another video where that train stopped at Rijwijk that the escalators may have only been in operation on the platform when needed as it was still at first then I saw people riding it, nearer departure time?? Thanks again, keep the descriptiveness coming. Some different stations and you explained why at the beginning.
Hi Geoffrey! True fact... I'm adding more details to the description now than I did in the past. One of the reasons why I publish video's ones in every two weeks now instead of every week. :) The work between Rijswijk and Delft Zuid is still ongoing. Big project. In one of my latest video's you can see an update about Delft. Elevators are always working (if not faulty). This because people need to get off of the platform at any time. At Rijswijk both platforms are always in use by the way. :)
Ah sorry... Those are always in use. Same as the elevators. After a few minutes they automatically stop working until someone approaches the escalators again. 😊
@@MachinistStefan Yes so I was right...as you said re escalators and I wondered. QUote: After a few minutes they automatically stop working until someone approaches the escalators again
@@MachinistStefan yeah that was what I thought happened with the escalators. Now another question. What are the big numbers 1 and 2 on the trains? Is 1 the power car and 2 the trailers?
I'm curious... if you're putting the speed transitions up -- which, thank you, I love that -- would it be possible to leave the current speed on screen the whole time instead of only for 5 seconds during each transition? Just a couple words of text in one of the corners. Or actually, if you wanted to get fancy, you could have two different speeds listed, the line speed and the signal speed at any given point, which would help beginners understand what each signal/signpost means. In theory, since you already go through the fuss of putting the speed transitions in the video, leaving the speed up the whole time shouldn't be too much more work than currently... just a wild thought.
He used to do that in his earlier videos (still available on this channel), but it takes a lot of time and effort to put those numbers in the video. There is unfortunately no way to stream the speed of the train and the allowed speed and merge this into the video. Another option would be to use a second camera and film the speed dial, but that would require a second camera on a place where it would interfere with the operation of the train. As I understand it, NS and her personnel have agreed on conditions on taking pictures in the cabin, which actually only allow the front facing wind screen camera. Train drivers have to be able to focus on operating the train at all times.
@@Zerk1978 1) Drivers can still record the speedometer, because such videos are still being posted, though I understand it's quite a pain to have two cameras these days, and 2) I wasn't asking about the actual speed, only the speed limits, which he *already* puts into his videos, including this one :) just that they stay on screen instead of disappearing after 5s
Hi! That's what I did with my previous videos when I just started creating them. This actually took too much of my time and it's already a lot of work to combine my work (every day other working hours) and private life together. 😉😉 Filming with two cameras is no option (safety first). And getting the speedo meters on camera with the same camera that shows the outside view will just mess up the quality of what you can see outside. 🙃🙃
OK. Maybe I missed something. Just after the beginning of the video there is an extravagant bridge construction deal happening. Or is that how the bridge will look eventually? Really fantastic either way!
Hey, I thought that you said that in the next couple of videos there would be more rain in store. In this video it looked like rain, but continued to remain dry although there were dark clouds hanging about. Let's see, maybe in your next video there will be rain. Till then I will enjoy your warp video of this particular route which is scheduled to release next Friday. Cheerio. ☺☺ ☺
Haha, I can't tell when it will rain and when not? 😂😂 Just saying that it raining a lot more during autumn. At this moment it's almost freezing and the sun is fully out! ❤️
@@MachinistStefan How can it be freezing when the sun is shining? You see, when the sun is out the ice tends to melt. Imagine enjoying the sunshine while shivering at the same time. 😨😨😨
@@MachinistStefan Mother Nature does what ever she wants. Here in California we are looking at the third 'wind event' and power blackout in the past two weeks. I really don't want any wind driven firestorms, but the last blackout which ended just last evening was 46 hours.
@@anmolmehta7116 Easy... Sunny freezy days are pretty normal. When it's cloudy most of the time the temperature is a little higher during this time of year (and those clouds most of the time contain rain). Clear skies make it colder very quickly.
Mooie video!
