Some of the cars are not on rubber tires but steel train wheels, unlike the metro, so there is much more vibration being transmitted into the ground. Also the vacuum itself is loud!

Like the other comment, the montreal metro was build on rubber tire for the best vibration reduction avalaible for metro line... The vacuum metro wagon was not build on that so this is why you have all that vibration but its not the only train to run on the metro line without rubberwheel all maintenance wagon was on normal train wheel, becaus you don't need the confort when you repair something :)

I think it run on diesel rather then electricity.

I agree. I used to live on Lajeunesse close to Gounod, and I could hear that train too.

I can't say for Montreal, but in Paris when lines 4 and 6 were put on tires (in the 60s/70s), there was the period when the Sprague trains, which run on iron, circulated on the tracks upgraded to tire standards (because they have already been completed), before the introduction of tire equipment. No modification was necessary, apart from a vertical shoes for current capture from the guide bars. Nowadays only the old generation work trains and the 2 collection spragues trains have this system (to be able to pass through the tire lines) francais Je ne peux pas dire pour Montréal, mais à Paris quand les lignes 4 et 6 ont été montées sur pneus (dans les années 60/70), il y a eu la période où les trains Sprague, qui roulaient au fer, circulaient sur les voies mises aux normes pneumatiques (car déjà terminées), avant l'introduction du metros a pneus Aucune modification n'a été nécessaire, hormis un contacteur vertical pour capter le courant des barres de guidage . De nos jours, seuls les trains de travaux ancienne génération et les 2 Spragues de collection disposent de ce système (pour pouvoir passer sur les lignes a pneus)

On the rare occasion when a rubber tire blows (bam!) from overheating, the steel wheels will contact the metal rails.

@@urbanlegend3972 The steel wheels are also utilized when switching tracks since the rubber tyres would not stay on track otherwise. Remember, the metro in Montreal is able to stay on track due to the guided rails. Guided rails is obviously not possible where tracks change. Edit: meant to say guided bars NOT guided rails. There are regular steeled train tracks accompanied alongside the roll-ways (the slab of concrete the wheels roll over) on all sections of the metro. However, not all sections of the metro contain guide bars (an overwhelming majority does however contain guide bars).

@@reeda9358 The rubber tires are filled with nitrogen, to reduce fire risk and protect the steel-belted radial structure of the tires.

It's a modified MR-63.
