A very nice video, Peter. The 150s are still a class act for clearness of the controls, especially when watching on a 15 inch screen. Many thanks. Roger Crick

I remember driving this route many years ago on an old text-based simulator called Simudrive! Always wondered what the real route looked like and now I know! How times have changed! Another great video, thanks!
@PTGRail
@PTGRail 8 лет назад
+DistrictDriver A text based simulator? How did that work? I'm quite intrigued! I've been looking for a while at trying to get together information about train simulators of the past to make a video on the history of train simulation from the 1980s to today.

I have also noticed that the Western Mainlines is really laggy and I believe that it is because of the new JT trees. Really annoying because it is a good route otherwise. I prefer this route for the line from Bristol to Cardiff. Good video! It has inspired for me to buy this route :D
@PTGRail
@PTGRail 8 лет назад
+euan buchanan The 3D trees are definitely the biggest part of the problem with lag on the JT route. And thank you, I hope you enjoy driving along here! It's a nice route to drive :)

Just to let you know, in the Severn tunnel, the blue lights are markers for gradient changes, so you could have used those to judge grades

really enjoyed watching this. not sure if you know this already but those blue lights in the Severn tunnel are gradient marker boards. I believe the first light marks the end of the steep decent into the tunnel and the second one with 2 blue lights marks the start of the climb to get out. in the real world i think there is also be a set of blue lights on the tunnel wall to mark the measured/official half way point in the tunnel. all these are for freight trains to tell the driver to apply the power to start climbing to get out of the tunnel

Pilning now only has services to Bristol. The Cardiff bound Platform has been closed. So passengers for Pilning from Bristol must now catch the 1221 service to Cardiff Central and change at Severn Tunnel Junction.

the reason for the single bore tunnels near Bristol is because old freight trains couldn't make it up the hill towards Bristol, so the other line has less of a gradient

I think the destination board lists destinations where the 150 COULD be used on for the routes that were available at the time it was released. That's a bit of a roundabout way of saying it but that's the best I can put it. Also, the default 150 has a 2 tone horn as does the 156, but the high tone is B and the low is space I believe when it's often the other way round.
@PTGRail
@PTGRail 8 лет назад
+Camerons Gaming That makes sense. There's a lot more places it can now be used, of course! I also forgot the Class 150 has a two-tone horn by default as it's been so long since I used it with the default sounds :)

The 95mph on the section between Newport and Cardiff is actually a 75, HST 95 board in real life so only Class 158-175s, 180s, 220/221s and HSTs would be allowed to travel at 95. It's also the second fastest stretch of track in Wales, bar the 7 mile 75/HST 95 stretch between Cardiff & Newport the only other section of track in Wales with a higher than 90mph limit is a 2 mile stretch of 90, HST 100 between Cardiff and Swansea through Pyle station.
@PTGRail
@PTGRail 8 лет назад
+Ben Reid Thanks for the info. So there's some slight inaccuracies there?
@hexagon7895

Yes, TS doesn't do class specific differential speed boards yet. There as scores of them on the Scottish ECML in real life but none appear on that route in TS.

Great video as usual! I bought the route straight away when it was released. I must say that Bristol is absolutely terrible. Using stock American assets is just so lazy and wrong. I'm currently in the process of rebuilding Bristol with more British looking buildings. Also at Lawrence Hill there is a supermarket next to the station, but in the route it is warehouse! I had to add a supermarket myself. It really shows how different a route appears, when you know the real life counterpart.
@PTGRail
@PTGRail 8 лет назад
+Highspeedline01 Thanks! I hadn't noticed that with the assets. Of course, routes always look different from the drivers cab to how they look from other views. I'm going to go and have a look at those assets for myself now lol XD

As you pass through the Severn tunnel you will see some blue lights. The single blue light indicates that the line has levelled off, whilst the double blue lights indicate the start of the uphill climb out of Severn Tunnel. Also do you plan to cover the new Marseille-Avignon LGV at some point and if so would you consider a guide to French 'Classic' line side signalling and in cab TVM430 signalling at some point as both are featured on that route and as DTG have signed an agreement with SNCF allowing them to use SNCF branding on TS products it seems likely that more French routes are in the offing.
@PTGRail
@PTGRail 8 лет назад
+Ben Reid I didn't realise that the blue lights were gradient indicators, but I wish I had realised that. Would have made life slightly easier! I don't yet have the new French route, but when I am finally able to get hold of it then I plan on making some route learning videos on there - and I'm happy to make a guide to French signalling too :)
@hexagon7895
@hexagon7895 8 лет назад
I find the French signalling system is simpler than the German one and has the advantage of still allowing the driver to actually drive the train at speeds greater than 160km/h (99.4mph). I love driving the TGV for myself at 320km/h, while if I want to use the signalling systems in Germany I can't actually control the train myself fully on lines with greater than 160km/h, which I feel detracts from the enjoyment of driving.

Great video as always, the only niggle I have personally is that it's a tad confusing when you keep saying speed limit in reference to the 150's max speed of 75mph on the faster stretches of the line, personally I think it would be better to say that 75mph is the speed restriction? So we would hear from you for example "the speed limit is 90mph but the speed restriction of the loco is 75mph" apart from that, a cracking little run!
@PTGRail
@PTGRail 8 лет назад
+Dan Madeley Thank you. I will bear that in mind in future videos and possibly consider rewording how I say it. :)

Just started on Train Simulations. First I purchased Trainz Driver 2016, now by the looks of what I have seen here on youtube Train Simulator 2016 by Dovetail Games seems a better proposition anyway I purchased that one too. Now the question is where do you get these routes, speeds and distances, from the sim or elsewhere? dumb question probably but what the heck!
@PTGRail
@PTGRail 8 лет назад
+:Clive-Albert :Dodd I've just responded to your other comment about getting new routes into the game. As for the speeds and distances, this game comes with a HUD (heads up display) which can be turned on or off with the F3 and F4 buttons. This shows you up to 1.5 miles ahead so you can see the upcoming speed limits and stations. On this channel however I try to drive as realistically as possible which means I have made an effort to learn where all the speed limits, gradient changes and braking points are - much like a real train driver has to do. Hence the HUD is turned off.

@simonmd2000
@simonmd2000 8 лет назад
Thanks for taking the time to use an interesting unit rather than the very poor 175 that comes with the route. Personally, I think charging full DLC price for a route thats less than 40 miles is a rip-off, especially when the Just Trains route costs the same and gives you 300!
@PTGRail
@PTGRail 8 лет назад
+simonmd2000 No problem. I wasn't especially impressed with the 175 model, but then again I also don't like the 175 in real life much either!
@simonmd2000

It's certainly true that even if they made a 100% accurate 175, it would still be very dull!
