Your going to have some great adventures in that boat, they are so powerful. Huge loads on all the kit, all the time. For many of the crew it will be life affirming while others will jump ship. Sail fast and safe.

.... Je sortais du Pub et longeais les quais, histoire de prendre l'air et de me dégriser de ce trop plein dialcool.... J"admirais les voiliers dont les drisses cognaient contre les mâts dans un solo de percussions désordonné sous les bourrasques du noroit... Je rêvais une fois de plus prendre la mer aux premières lueurs du jour, à laisser les échoués à leurs smartphones et le destin décider de mon sort.. Je rêvais, comme depuis toujours, être cet autre, ce courageux marin que les tempêtes effraient bien moins que le tumulte d'une société surbookée à tourner en rond.... ... Alors que je levais la tête jusqu'au sommet d'un immense mât carbone cintré sous ses haubans, une voix m'interpella: "Ah ben, tu n'aimes pas que les Mojitos toi, t'aimes bien les bateaux aussi, à ce que je vois!...." Merde alors! C'était ce type, celui qui m'avait bousculé au Pub, payé un verre pour s'excuser et raconté sa vie "de rêve". Ce type, celui là même dont j'avais fini par penser qu'il n'était qu'un énième Mythomane qui rentrerait bientôt cuver son ivresse avant de s'inventer une nouvelle vie....; Sur le pont d'un 70 pieds "taillé" pour la course, il lovait une écoute immense d'un geste aussi assuré que le mien qui ne trouvais rien de mieux que de me rouler une énième clope dans l'espoir de me donner une contenance.... "Ouais, j'aime bien!", répondis je, "Ca fait rêver les bateaux quoi!...." Le type m'expliqua qu'ils avaient une régate "d'entrainement" demain, qu'ils allaient traverser la Manche "aller/ retour", histoire de "se faire la main" avant le grand départ... "Cool!", répondis je... " Bon vent alors!" Ouais merci!", répondit l'autre d'un large sourire, "... On ne devrait pas en manquer!..;" ...... ... Je regagnai ma chambre d'hôtel, en ouvrît la modeste fenêtre et m'en fuma une dernière avant de m'abandonner définitivement aux bras de Morphée.. " Mytho toi même!", pensai je, avant de sombrer sous le pesant sommeil de l'ivresse.... Bonne bourre le marin!
Great video, great to get a behind the scenes look. What are the requirements for aqp/1st mate? What would you say are the average, most and least qualification(miles/certificates) of all the 1st mates?
Was your "emergency steering" steering with just the sail or did you have a way to use a rudder? In your practice race were you able to finish? It sounds like on Level 4 you are given the oldest boats/equipment to use.

Je me demandais juste si tu pourrais expliquer le processus pour rejoindre cette régate, et les niveaux attendus en tant que second et équipier ? (J'aimerai tant la faire !!) Bon vent à toi ! How did you do olin the round the island race, I understand the clippers are designed for far greater distances so would like to know how they handled in a relatively short race with other smaller boats. Also at 7:32 you refer to the "Yankee" what do you mean by that? Thanks.
Do participant really have "zero sailing experience"? I find it hard to believe - like with climbing - say for Mont Blanc there are usually members of the group with different level of exp, but most people still have years of climbing experience before attempting it, and for Monte Rosa and Matterhorn its even higher - thou not everyday climbers, people still need to build confidence before atempting a higher difficulty level mountain. I believe same goes here: even if you pay for the race you would measure personal exp level of sailing skills against difficulties of around-the-world sailing. Correct?
I know you're trying to push the videos out for the race around the world but I kind of feel like I was watching a movie and then it stopped in the middle. What happened with your boat in the Caribbean? You had no engine and the last video was you hanging out in beautiful eaters with your friend.
