Wish I had found this sooner. Working cocker pup is 10 weeks and this helps a lot. Sounds like I need to simplify things more than I am currently. Will be watching more of your vids. Subscribed 👍

What about a 6 month springer being exposed to everything like you said already. What do you suggest we do to stop him sniffing every blade of grass & doing his own thing? How do we exercise him? Just playing in the garden & training?

What would you say is a reasonable amount time to leave the pup in the cage ?

One thing I wanted to ask is what about socialising of the pup? Should I not be carrying him around to meet people, cars, tractors etc during the early days? Perhaps there is a video on this somewhere? Ill have a look.

@@hampshirespanieltrainingwi9314 You cant do everything, and it was not a critism, just a query, as there is so much to fit in during those early days ...

Hi I’m throwing a sock for my puppy in a hall way making her sit and she has picked it up really well when she comes back with it I think she would like to keep it to play and I’m worried about pulling it from her mouth to hard help with this one if you could would be really grateful as not wonting to do the wrong thing

Hi there I’m finding these videos really interesting ahead of picking up my springer puppy. The point about not walking a puppy or taking it out, does that not affect socialisation? I have trained a border collie puppy before with a clicker but I admit I may have made some mistakes. How old would the puppy be before you take it out? And in an order of things to do first, would this be: retrieve, sit, lead work? Would you advise using a clicker? I’ve always enjoyed using one, but like I said - im not an expert. Thanks!

I see a lot of posts about training for a 10 week old puppy or a 15 week old puppy. Fact is, you don't!!! A pup should be at least 6 months old and your better off at 9 to 12 months old. You have to let him (or her) mature a bit before you bring the preasure of training!!! Most professional gun dog trainers like them about a year old. There are lots of things you can work on like heel, sit and come with a pup but wait until he can absorb the harder things. If you make a mistake, it is extremely hard to undo!! Man brought me an 11 month old setter once that was blinking birds!!! He would point, then backout and avoid the covey! He was bird shy! Terrible!! As a pup he had stepped into a covey and the flush had scared the pup to death! The cure was to put him in an enclosed kennel with 6 quail and no feed. He was forced to kill and eat. That cured his bird shyness but he never retrieved!! He would eat them!! So one bad habbit was cured but another one was created!! As I said, a mistake is extremely hard to undo!!! Wait till your dog is old enough to train!

I totally agree to an extent, but a lot of my clients can't wait till six or seven months to start training there dogs as they will generally live in a house and can't wait till that point do a lot of stuff .. but I will take on board what you said and I appreciate your comments👍☺️
